Today there are TWO SSS STAMPtember collaboration companies: Whimsy and Colorado Craft Company. This blog post is for the Whimsy release and you can see the Colorado Craft Co blog post HERE. The Whimsy stamp set is called Pumpkin Boos and is sold alone or with a set of matching dies as shown here:
The funny thing is I don't like Halloween. I don't like making HW cards. I dread it every year. And then I used HW stamp sets for my past two monthly "one stamp, five ways" guest posts on the SSS blog - I pick what I use. And now after all of the cute STAMPtember HW sets, I think I'm starting to like making HW cards now! I especially loved this set and love the card I made with it because I love the background colors! Here you go:
I don't often ink blend because I always think I'm not very good at it. Well, I agree and disagree with that comment today. I made 3 backgrounds to get to this one. My first one was just plain ugly as was the second and I couldn't figure out how to make it work. I was using yellow ink to create the glow around the moon. Well, yellow and purple just don't mix, so I was getting a really yucky color where they overlapped. My husband looked over at me in my frustration and said why don't you make the moon glow white. Huh? BRILLIANT!!! And he never even looks at my cards or pays attention to me making them. It totally saved my background.
So with that lead up, I used Ranger Watercolor paper (because I planned on using water over it) and Distress Inks. I left the area around the moon white and then with Ranger Tiny Blending Tools I started with Picked Raspberry, then Wilted Violet and then Villainous Poison. Last, I added black to the bottom for the ground. I splashed some water over it first with a paintbrush and shaded that up with a paper towel. I love that these inks are reactive. I applied some Villainous Poison ink flicked with a paintbrush next and then some white acrylic paint. Bam, background perfect after 3 tries!
I stamped all of the stamps in the Pumpkin Boos stamp set and colored them with Copic Markers. I added some lines with a white uniball gel pen. I fussy cut them all out as I didn't have the set of matching dies. I arranged them around the background using foam tape under the tops of the ghosts and some of the elements in the front. I used some purple Stickles over the purple areas and around the background. I embossed a sentiment with white embossing powder on the top.
If you like Halloween like I now do (well maybe - still deciding), then you will love this Whimsy Pumpkin Boos stamp set. You can also buy it with a set of matching dies (which I wish I had!).
