Today I'm back to flowers! Surprised? I took a day off for Disney princesses yesterday, but then after sitting outside in my pretty flowery backyard, flowers it is! I colored this one while outside. It is called the Peony Background stamp and was illustrated by Emily Midgett. I love the big flowers on this one. Here is an image:
Here is my card (using my favorite colors for flowers once again!). When I had my yard redone a couple years ago, I told the landscaper I only wanted flowers in pink, purple, blue, and white. So my entire yard is in these colors. So many hydrangeas, daisies, hollyhocks, gardenias, hibiscus, fuchsias, etc... (but NO peonies as they don't grow here which is a bummer as they are my favorite flowers and on this Peony Background stamp!).
I started by just stamping the entire background stamp with black ink on a piece of white cardstock that was cut to be 5.5" x 4.25". I then colored it first with Copic Markers using very light shades. I then used colored pencils to shade and add texture to the petals. And then I went back in the darker areas with a darker Copic marker and used a lighter one over the rest of the areas. This approach works so well for me as the markers work really well over the waxiness of the pencils and add a nice base coat and then some deep shading at the end. Using a light color of Copic over the entire thing at the end makes the pencils look more blended. I'm having fun learning how to use these two coloring mediums together. Practice. On flowers. Daily! haha
I die-cut the Fancy Thinking of You die three times using Tim Holtz Black Heavystock which is like a velvet texture and glued them together. I need another packet as I use it all the time now. I die-cut the colored portion with an A2 Thin Frame Die and attached it to another piece of the black paper and then attached that to a white card base. I like white card bases! I used little spots of Black Board Nuvo Vintage Drops to look like splattered paint, but I'm afraid of splattering with black, so this works better for me! I then added just a few sparkling clear sequins around the sentiment.
And that's it! This Peony Background stamp is about as close as I am going to get to peonies unfortunately! Although Trader Joes does sell them even though you can't grow them in CA! I almost bought a bunch yesterday but resisted. Hope you are all having a fun holiday weekend! Suzy
