I'm throwing it back to the SSS All the Joy release tonight. I've had my eye on the O Holy Night Stencil for a while and really wanted to use it. I love it as the message is so pretty. I also wanted to use it a little differently so I could get my coloring fix for the day! Here is an image of it:
If you click on the image you will be taken to the SSS store where there are LOTS of examples of it in use. I love some of the ideas people have used with it, especially the dimensional products. I took a little different approach for my card. I used to doodle all kinds of quotes and I had done this one. They are all over pinterest if you ever want to look them up. The font reminded me of my old doodles. So I doodled it!
I attached it to a piece of A2 sized white cardstock using my SSS Stamp and Stencil Mat. It keeps the paper in place and the stencil around it in place. I then used a fine tip marker (I use a Micron in either the .05 size or .1 size). I outlined inside each letter and inside the stars. And that was it with the stencil! I removed my paper and put it away!
My outlines were messy, so I added a second line around them purposely leaving spaces around them so they looked like doodled letters. I think it makes messy look good! I then colored them in with Copic Markers using a darker color on the bottom and a lighter color on the top of each row. I just used random colors that make no sense. I used a white Uniball gel pen to fill in the lines between the doodled lines. I then covered all of the letters with clear Nuvo drops called Morning Dew. It adds a nice shiny coat with some dimension to the letters and the stars.
I colored around the letters with blue Copics for the sky using darker colors on the outside and lighter on the inside. I colored over the Nuvo Drops with a white Uniball on the stars so they would pop more. I added lots (way too many!) of white dots with a white Uniball gel pen. I then die-cut it with the A2 Thin Frame Die and attached it to a white card base. I tied some of the SSS silver and white twine into a bow on the left side as I felt like it needed a focal point or some dimension or something else!
I hope this inspires you to use your stencils in a different way. I've done this with other stencils before and loved the results. Just draw inside them with a fine top marker and you can then color to your hearts content! This Oh Holy Night Stencil is perfect for this technique and I just love the message on it! Thanks for visiting! Suzy
