Today is the release of the Simon Says Stamp December Card Kit called Making Spirits Bright. After working with this card kit, I am going to decorate my house NOW. I'm so in the holiday mood that I don't know if I can stop the process of getting ready to cook a turkey and stuffing haha. Here is an image of the full kit:
There are several products in the kit that are sold alone including the stamp set which is also called the Making Spirits Bright stamp set and Making Spirits Bright dies (add on to the kit). There is a Verdant Ornaments Embossing Folder, and Fancy Holiday Cheer Die Set. I've used all of these products in my 5 cards below. I also made 3 tags with this kit which are on another blog post HERE. Here is an image of the three tags together.
And here are my five cards using the kit, but focusing on the Making Spirits Bright stamp set (one stamp, five ways!):
I used the beautiful Verdant Ornaments Embossing Folder for this card. I embossed it on white cardstock. I then colored the ornaments with green and red Copic markers. I used a Gold Uniball gel pen for the decorations on the ornaments and all of the elements on the background. Because of the raised images, it is fairly easy to color them without going out of the "lines". I did use a white Uniball to go over any mistakes I made.
I stamped a sentiment from the stamp set on a sentiment banner from one of my other SSS stamp sets in the past couple releases. I keep all of these banner type dies together so I can use them for other stamps. I stamped it with Rainbow Splash Crimson Ink which is the perfect bright red. I attached it over the bottom of the ornaments with foam tape behind it. I added some of the Craft Consortium adhesive pearls in red around the background.
I've mentioned on some past blog posts that I went crazy making holiday card backgrounds with Tim Holtz Mica Sprays for all my holiday cards. I've used two of those on this post. I started with a A2 size white cardstock (didn't use watercolor paper). I sprayed this one with Winter Frost Mica Spray. I then added some Frozen Fog Mica Spray. I splattered some Zig Starry Colors gold paint and some white gauche paint over it for lots of splotches.
I embossed the tree and two of the corner stamps from the Making Spirits Bright stamp set with Gold Embossing Powder. I didn't have the matching dies, so I fussy cut around these. I also embossed the "peace on earth" sentiment on another small banner die from one of my recent SSS stamp sets. I die-cut an A2 Thin Frame Die from gold matte cardstock and glued it to the card front. I added the tree to the center with foam tape behind it. I glued the two corner dies to two of the corners of the gold frame. I used the turquoise pearls in the Craft Consortium Pearl Stickers that came with the kit to decorate the tree. I added the peace on earth banner to the center of the tree. Last, I added a little more gold with Mustard Gold Nuvo drops.
I really took advantage of the papers in this kit using them for this card and my next two cards. The papers are by Simple Stories called the Dear Santa 6"x8" paper pad and are part of their Dear Santa line. I love this line and am going to buy the whole thing for my December album after using it on these cards. For this card I cut this Santa out of one of the papers and then I colored over it with colored pencils. I recommend Prismacolor or Luminance by Caran d'ache for coloring over papers as they are the most waxy and opaque. I used a white Uniball over all of the white areas so they really pop. I cut around Santa and attached him to a piece of Gold Matte Cardstock and attached that to a 5"x7" piece of white cardstock.
I embossed one of each of the small snowflakes and designs in the stamp set with white embossing powder on the left of Santa over the gold paper. I also embossed the merry and bright sentiment with Gold Embossing Powder and cut around it. I attached that over Santa with foam tape behind it. Then I added Glossy Accents and white glitter over the snow. I used Frosted Lace Stickles over all of the white on his outfit. I used Mustard Gold Nuvo Drops over his belt buckle.
For this card, I also used three of the Simple Stories Dear Santa papers. I cut out the flower designs on the papers with all of the greenery and white snowflakes around them. I then colored them with colored pencils again to make them pop. I used a white Uniball on the snowflakes and a Gold Uniball over the big snowflake. I cut all of these designs out. I again used one of my Mica Spray backgrounds for this card. This one is sprayed with Yuletide and splattered with lots of gold paint and white paint. I die-cut it with the largest A2 Thin Frame Die and attached it to a white card base.
I layered the papers over the left side of the card only attaching the insides of the pieces so the outsides bent upward. I tucked the smallest flower under the design and the other poinsettia over the main design. I added some of the pearl stickers to the center of the flowers. I embossed the Merry and Bright sentiment and the corner stamp with Red Geranium embossing powder and cut it out. I attached the sentiment to the bottom with foam tape behind it and the corner stamp to the top right corner of the card. I finished it with lots of Glossy Accents and Unicorn Glitter even on the letters. It definitely snowed on this card!
My last card is ALL about one of the patterned papers. It wasn't quite as tall as a slimline card, so I added a bit to the top making his hat bigger. I first cut Santa out of the paper that has lines behind him (you can see the red lines throughout my design). I then cut a small piece to make his hat taller from the same paper so it still had the same red lines. I glued these to a piece of white cardstock and cut around the edges so it was thick. I then colored him in with Luminance colored pencils. They are very opaque and went over the lines really well. I used a white Uniball over all of the white areas to make them pop.
I made the background on a piece of Ranger Watercolor Paper cut to be the same size as the front of a slimline card (8.5"x3.5"). I applied Storm Cloud Nuvo Shimmer Powder to it. By wetting the paper first, the colors spread around more. I flicked white paint over it. I attached that to a slimline card base. I used foam tape behind Santa and attached him over it. I embossed the sentiment from the stamp set with Red Geranium embossing powder and cut around it. I attached it over his beard. I used Chalk Stick Nuvo Drops over all of the white areas of his outfit in a really thick manner so it would look like frosting. I used Mustard Gold Nuvo Drops over the bell.
I hope you enjoyed this "one stamp, five ways" post using the December card kit called Making Spirits Bright. Don't forget to check out my other blog post HERE with my 3 tags on it using the kit as well. Like I said, the Simple Stories Dear Santa line and the cute Making Spirits Bright stamp set made me go crazy with this kit! Thanks for visiting and have a great week friends! Suzy
Love the card using the embossing folder with Copics and a gold pen.
