I have a "one stamp, five ways" post to share with you today using a 4x6 stamp set by SSS called Geo Flower Builder from their Beautiful Days release. This set has all flat shapes, so no coloring, but it IS flowers, so there is that. I just don't usually use flat stamps if I have a choice haha. But I really wanted to challenge myself with this set as I don't usually do graphic cards either. I think I ended up making non-graphic cards with it though! Here is an image of the stamp set which also comes as a bundle with a set of matching dies:
And here are my 5 cards:
My first card is the one that took me the most time and ended up in a very unexpected design. I stamped a bunch of the floral images with all kinds of Pawsitively Saturated Ink colors. On some, I used all 3 shades in a Trio by using the SSS small brushes to apply ink to just a portion of the flat stamp. I would stamp first with the lightest color, then apply the middle color to half the image and the darkest color to just the inside of the image using one of the SSS Small Brushes right on the stamp. You can see the petals I did this with on the two outside flowers. On others, I applied one color in a Trio to the outside of the stamp and another color from another Trio to the inside of the flat stamp. This resulted with flowers like the one second from the right with two different colors in it. I had SO many images stamped, that I ended up cutting a bunch of them apart for more separate petals and leaves. I built four flowers across this slimline card and added three leaves to each. Then I decided to add a bunch more of my stamped petals around each of these flowers. So now they make no sense, but I used up more of my images and filled up the space better. If you look close, you can see my original 6 petal flowers with the three leaves around each one. Then crazy two happened.
After adding all the petals, I saved myself a small space for a sentiment. I first die-cut a white rectangle with the SSS Slimline Nested Rectangle Dies that I used to arrange all of my flowers. I attached that to a pink cardstock card base. I then die-cut a sentiment from the Bold Hello sentiment strips from the Dear Friends release. I ended up using this same set on four of my five cards! I die-cut it with one of the SSS sentiment label dies and then die-cut another strip one size bigger from the same pink cardstock. I layered them on the bottom of the card. I added some sequins from the Autumn Leaves Sequin Mix around the sentiment. I also added large yellow sequins to the center of each flower over the yellow circles I had already stamped and added!
I used the new Modern Postage Die Set (also comes with stencils) from the Dear Friends release for the background of this card. I die-cut the largest postage stamp from white cardstock and pink cardstock. I die-cut a rectangle from the SSS Basic Rectangle Dies around the outside edges of the pink one. I attached the white insides to the pink outsides and attached both to a teal cardstock card base.
I then stamped some of the stamps in the Geo Flower Builder stamp set with light Pawsitively Saturated Inks. I used the lightest colors in each Trio for each color. I then used colored pencils to shade each image over the ink and drew stems in the middle of the leaves for the three flowers. This would have worked well with Copics as well. This technique allows me to "color" flat stamp images! I die-cut a sentiment using the Bold Hello Sentiment Strips die-cut with the SSS Sentiment Label Die and added that to the bottom of the flowers. I used some sequins from the SSS Tropical Sequin Mix around the top of the card.
I used Distress Inks for this mini-slimline card. I started with a piece of Ranger Watercolor Paper. I then stamped each flower image with Distress Inks (mini-cubes) and in this pattern. After stamping each one, I used a wet brush to move the color around and then wiped off some from the center of each image with a paper towel. I went back in with a wet brush and more of the ink to shade each design. I used a very light wash of one of the inks for the background once everything else was dry. I die-cut this piece with the largest rectangle in the Mini Slimlne Rectangle Dies.
I attached this piece to a raspberry cardstock card base. I die-cut a sentiment from the Bold Hello Sentiment Strips using the SSS Sentiment Label Dies. I attached that to the bottom of the card. I added some rhinestones to the middle of the three flowers using the Doodlebug Retro Mini Jewels.
I used Arches watercolor paper for this card background of this card. I then stamped just one of the four petal flower images over the background by first drawing lines with a pencil/ruler so I could space the flowers out. I colored each flower with Karin Brushmarkers using two colors for each flower. I would color the outside of the petals with one color and the inside of the petals with another and then mix the two colors in the middle of the petal with a damp paintbrush. I had a couple of accidents that messed some of my flowers up. My nose actually drips (drips a lot due to allergies) on the flower to the left of the sentiment and ruined it. I went back in with the markers and tried to add more color by applying them directly to the paper. I die-cut this piece on an angle (wasn't my original intention when stamping) using the SSS A2 Thin Frame Dies.
I attached the background of the card to a burnt orange cardstock card base. I then stamped a sentiment "you are loved" from the Extra Proud stamps from the Dear Friends release and die-cut it out with the matching dies. I used Arches watercolor paper so it matched the background color. When I dripped on the card, my finger somehow transferred some of the wet color to this sentiment rectangle. So then I decided to wet other petals and add a light amount of color to all of it! One runny nose can almost ruin a card! The thing about Karin Brushmarkers is the color is very reactive. This means is you get water anywhere near the dried images, it will move again! This can work to your favor or work against you. This is why I usually use them with embossing powder, so the colors don't blend into each other. It worked to my benefit on this card though until I dripped haha.
I didn't use the stamp set for this card, which kind of goes against my whole "one stamp, five ways" post title. BUT, I did use the dies, so I think that counts?!!! I wanted to die-cut all of the flower pieces from colorful papers instead of stamping them. I had these fluorescent papers from my stash that I thought would look cool for this technique. I die-cut a few of each die from all 5 of the colors I used. I then attached them like puzzle pieces on a piece of A2 sized white cardstock. I die-cut this piece with a rounded rectangle die and trimmed all of the excess off the edges. I attached some circles in the center of flowers to add more interest (and use up more of my die-cut pieces!).
I attached this piece to a bright pink card base. I die-cut another sentiment from the Bold Hello Sentient Strips using one of the SSS Sentiment Label Dies and attached that to the bottom of my card front with foam tape beneath it. I added three sequins around the sentiment in light blue and yellow.
I really tried hard to use 5 different techniques with this Geo Flower Builder stamp set and matching dies. I love challenging myself with stamps I wouldn't normally use to come up with new ideas. This set was definitely out of my comfort zone and I will be coloring some Peonies tonight to recover hahaha! I hope you enjoyed this "one stamp, five ways" post. Have a great weekend friends! xoxo suzy
