Today is the 14th day of the month which means Simon Says Stamp card kit release day! The card kit for April 2023 is called Poppy Perfection. I was about to buy the ModaScrap Spring Poppies 6x6 paper pad, so I was really happy to see it in the kit. It is gorgeous! I also love the stamp with all the single stem poppies that are oh so fun to color! This "one stamp, five ways" post uses the Poppy Perfection 6x8" stamp set and also many of the other items in the kit. There is also a set of Poppy Perfection matching dies, but I fussy cut all of mine. Here is an image of the full kit:
And here are my 5 cards. You will notice that 4 of them look very much alike. I didn't alter the techniques much on this 5 card post as I really got into the papers and used them on almost every card. Thus I colored all of my flowers to match the papers and all my cards ended up looking very similar!
This cards uses one of the Tim Holtz Idea-ology Transparent Layers in the kit. I've never used these before and I love this set! It works so well with the papers in the kit. For this card, I first die-cut one of the ModaScrap Spring Poppies 6x6 papers using the largest die in the SSS A2 Thin Frame dies. I attached this red paper to a white card base. I then cut a piece of white cardstock to fit behind one of the transparencies and attached it over the red paper. I applied adhesive just behind the leaves so it wouldn't show.
I stamped a full set of the poppies in the Poppy Perfection stamp set with Latte Pawsitively Saturated Ink. I then colored them with colored pencils. Next, I outlined them with a very fine tip Micron pen (.05, the smallest tip is my favorite for outlining). I cut them all out and used them on a few of my cards. I always do doubles of the leaves and smaller images when doing this part of the process. I attached a few of these to the front of the card over the leaves in the transparency. I used foam tape behind the top of 2 of the flowers so they looked dimensional. I also attached one of the leaves and one bud. I stamped the sentiment with Intense Black Ink on white cardstock and cut it out. I attached that to the bottom of the flowers with foam tape. I added some sequins from the Autumn Leaves Sequin Mix. I loved this mix with this kit and ended up using it on most of my cards.
I die-cut another one of the ModaScrap 6x6 papers with the same SSS A2 Thin Frame die and attached it to a red card base. I then attached one of the circle Tim Holtz Idea-ology Transparency Layers over the top center of the paper. I liked the idea of a circle over the circles on the paper. I pulled out my SSS Thin Frame Circle dies and realized the largest one fit over this transparency perfectly! I die-cut one out of the same red cardstock I used for the card base and attached it over the transparency.
I hated to cover up any of this gorgeous transparency! I added some of my stamped flowers colored with colored pencils over the circle. I used foam tape just behind the center flower. I also added a couple of the leaves and just attached the bottom so they kind of float above the flowers. I stamped another one of the greetings in this really cool script font with black ink and cut around it. I attached that to the bottom of the circle on the card with foam tape. I stamped another sentiment on a SSS Sentiment Label die and attached that below it. I added some of the bright red sequins in the Autumn Leaves Sequin Mix.
This slimline card is the only one that doesn't use the papers and looks different from the rest! I first die-cut a rectangle from the SSS Nested Slimline Rectangle Dies and white cardstock. I then applied Pawsitively Saturated Ink to it using a foam application tool. I tried to do it splotchy so it would look like additional flowers in the background, but it turned out too light to give me that look. I used Tidepool and Tropic Ink on the bottom and Melon on the top. I attached this piece to a black card base. I really struggled with what color to use and my daughter made the decision. Not sure I love it.
I stamped a bunch of the poppies in the stamp set with Intense Black Ink on white cardstock. I colored them all in with Copic markers. I used a white Uniball gel pen for lines. I arranged them over the front of the card using foam tape behind some. I attached two sentiments from the set, both stamped with Intense black ink and one cut out and one on a SSS Sentiment Banner Die. Then I added the leafy stems by just attaching the bottom and letting the tops kind of float for dimension. I added some more of the Autumn Leaves Sequin Mix again!
I love using the index that is sometimes in 6x6" paper pads. I cut the top of it off where the 8 squares were. They fit almost perfectly on a slimline card base. I think I had to cut it just a little shorter, but I can't remember. I attached it to a red cardstock card base. I think it is so pretty with all the little squares of the paper and I didn't even have to paper piece!
I used one of my images that I stamped with Latte Ink and colored with colored pencils. I attached it to the card going horizontally with foam tape behind it. I then stamped another one of the fonts in script with black ink and cut around it. I attached that above it. I left this card very plain which was hard for me! It might be the most simple card I've ever made. I kind of feel guilty haha.
I adored this paper with the red flowers all over it. My second favorite paper in the pad was this black and white one on the left, so I joined them together. I die-cut both with the same A2 Thin Frame Die (love that it leaves just a little bit of cardstock around the edges). I cut some off of the red so it was just over half of the card front. I attached both to a black card base.
I attached one of my floral images that I colored with colored pencils to the left side of the card over the seam in the papers. This time I outlined it ti look similar to the outlines on the paper - kind of messy going out around the images. I wanted it to match the style of the paper. I added a couple more of the sentiments in the stamp set made the same way as all of the other cards to the top. I used some sparkling clear sequins around the floral grouping.
This Poppy Perfection card kit is so simple and so pretty and if you love coloring flowers like I do, it's a winner! I hope this post inspires you to make lots of cards with the kit! I might still make lots more with the rest of the ModaScrap papers I love so much. Thanks for visiting today! xoxo Suzy
