Today I have a card to share with you using a stamp set I just purchased at Simon Says Stamp by Pink Fresh called Wonderful in Every Way. I love their florals and this one comes with a Wonderful In Every Way Stencil, Hot Foil Plate, and Die as well. I only purchased the stamp because as you know I love to color and usually make one layer cards. Today, I have just that to share with you - a colored one layer card using this set! Here is an image of the stamp:
I'm going to say right up front here that I think this card is my best color pencil coloring I've done on florals before. I tried some new things and I think it worked really well. I'm excited to do more of this style of coloring. Always learning as I practice! Here is my card:
I stamped the floral images form the Wonderful in Every Way stamp set with Latte Ink on a piece of white cardstock. I then colored it with colored pencils and Copic Markers. My 21 year old daughter is an amazing artist and she grew up doing portraits using my Copics with Prismacolor colored pencils over them. She always used them as the base for skin. I usually color with pencils because when I use Copics or watercolors, I end up adding shading with pencils anyway! But the technique I used on this card is different. I started like Chloe die with a fully blended shaded Copic colored flower keeping the colors fairly light like a base coat. I then went over the image with colored pencils adding more shading, but leaving some areas just Copics. I like the way it turned out. What do you think? When it comes to coloring, especially with pencils, it is always practice that makes you better. There are no secrets. The biggest mistake I make is over doing things (with any coloring medium I use). Less is more. So I kept these light in many areas with just the lightest color of Copic and I really like that part of the petals.
After it was colored, I used a black fine tip pen to go over the tendrils in the center of the flower. I die-cut it out with a rectangle die from the SSS Basic Rectangle dies set. I then attached it to a piece of Heffy Doodle Wildberry Cardstock. I love this color since i use bright pinkish purple in my flowers so often.
I then stamped a sentiment from the Wonderful in Every Way stamp set with Intense Black Ink in the upper right corner. I was going to add one of the smaller ones to the bottom right corner, but I decided to leave it as is. I have to remind myself constantly that less is more. I added three sparkling clear sequins.
You can purchase this Wonderful In Every Way stamp set at Simon Says Stamp as well as all of the other products that go with it - they are all in stock. And I am happy to say that I placed an order with Simon last night and it shipped today! That is so fast and I usually get them in 2 days through priority mail, so I'm super excited to get some more floral stamp sets to color and try this technique I used again! Have a great week friends! Suzy
