I had a bit of trouble making a card with this set due to my 4 month old sheepadoodle puppy Lucy. She is so sweet, but also very curious and wants to know what I am doing at every moment. My first attempt at making a card was a fail. I can't blame Lucy for this one. Here is a picture of all of the supplies I used to make it:
Then I made a second one correcting the mistake I made on the first one and she stuck her mug on it while it was wet. But I used it anyway as the embossed images covered most of the smears. Notice the gold paint on her head!
So now for the card:
On my first attempt at making this card, I embossed all of the stamps in the Last Minute Labels stamp set FIRST with clear embossing powder. Then I inked the background over the embossed images and rubbed the ink off them. It turned out bad. So this time, I started with Ranger Watercolor Paper instead of Neenah cardstock so it would absorb the ink better as it is thicker and made for water to be added. I then did all of my inking first before stamping the images. I inked all of the A2 size paper with the new LumberJack Plaid Distress Ink leaving a small area without ink in the top center. I inked that with Tsukineko Golden Glitz ink and blended it over some of the red ink. I mixed so much of the red into this area too that it doesn't look very gold in the pictures.
Next, I added splotches to it which you can see better in my dog picture at the top. First, I flicked water over it and let it sit for a minute and then wiped the water off. Because the ink is reactive, it leaves lightened spots when water is added. Next, I used the LumberJack Plaid Distress Ink reinker and applied it with a large paintbrush flicked over the paper. I used the Finetek Mica Watercolor set in two colors - the darkest gold and the white. I flicked those over the card with a paintbrush also. then I had what was in the picture and got smeared. But I kept going.
Next, I embossed all of the images in the Last Minute Labels stamp set. I first stamped the "merry christmas" one in the area with gold ink on it in the top center. Then I used the other two large snowflakes and the smaller decorative stamp and embossed them around the "merry christmas" stamp. I used SSS white embossing powder. But embossing OVER the ink, the images were pure white instead of muted.
I then rubbed more of the LumberJack Distress Ink over the snowflakes everywhere except on the "Merry Christmas" area. I then flicked more gold paint over it. I added Tonic Nuvo Drops also in several colors (all listed in the supply list) around the snowflakes. I cut the piece down and matted it on SSS Gold Matte cardstock. I then attached that to a white cardstock card base.
This might have taken me all day to make, but such is life crafting with a puppy! She makes it really fun though as I end up laughing all day at her. This small Gina K. Last Minute Labels stamp set is perfect for easy Christmas cards (they don't have to be complicated like this one is!) and is totally free with just a $25 purchase of any Gina K. Designs products. I hope you enjoyed my card AND my puppy photos! Have a great week! Suzy
