Today's limited edition kit is all about Poppy's and is therefore called the Poppy Field Limited Edition kit! They are the state flower for California where I live, so I was excited to see this kit! There is a stamp set called Poppy Field and a stencil called the Poppy Field Stencil - I used these two products on all 5 of my cards. I didn't dig too deep in the rest of the kit products since my focus in my "one stamp, five ways" was on the Poppy Field stamp set. There is also a set of matching Poppy Field Dies. There are two individual dies in the kit called Poppy Stem and Continuous Rainbow Die that I am looking forward to using in the future. Here is an image of the entire kit:
Here are my 5 poppy cards. I am basically just showing 5 different coloring methods for the same stamped or stenciled poppy image! In most cases I made my cards the size of the image which is bigger than an A2 card.
CARD 1:
For this card, I stamped the large floral stamp in the Poppy Field stamp set with Intense Black Ink on white cardstock. I then colored it in with colored pencils. I didn't want to cut any of my coloring off, so I left the stamped image full size and made my card a bit larger than normal. It won't fit in an envelope, but I don't care because I give them away in gift bags without envelopes often. After I color, I always use white Luminance pencils to lighten and blend the outside edges of petals. I also use a fine tip black Micron to go over the black areas because they get lightened by the pencils.
I mounted this piece on deep orange cardstock. I then stamped a sentiment from the Poppy Field stamp set with Intense Black Ink in the corner. I used Blushing Red Nuvo Drops around the flowers. I also stamped a butterfly and colored it and attached it to the top right corner. Out of all my cards, I think this one using pencils is my favorite as they give me the ability to add lots of shading and detail to the petals and leaves.
CARD 2:
This card was made with the Poppy Field Stencil and Pawsitively Saturated Inks. I attached the 4 stencils to white cardstock using Pixie Spray behind them. I used Trio 2 inks for the greens using a small brush to shade the edges with the darkest color of the three in the set. I used Trio 9 for the flowers again using small brushes to add more of the darkest color on the edges. I used a white Uniball gel pen to add shadows to the petals and leaves.
I stamped a butterfly with black ink and colored it to match. I cut it out as I didn't have the matching dies and attached it to the top left corner. I stamped the sentiment over the images wiith Intense Black Ink on the bottom of the card. I then added some Nuvo Drops in Ripened Pumpkin between the flowers and leaves. I also used Sprig of Mistletoe green Nuvo Drops on the leaves and flower centers (they match this ink perfectly).
CARD 3:
I embossed the Poppy Field floral stamp on Arches watercolor paper with Ranger white embossing powder. I then painted the flowers with my Karin Brushmarkers. I had forgotten how much I love using these for watercoloring as they give you such intense color. One of my favorite and least favorite things about these markers is that the colors still move after they are dry. So I just used a wet paintbrush to move color around the background from the leaves. In this case, it was a positive move! But when I accidentally get the colors wet and they bleed on my paper, I'm not so happy.
Funny thing happened - my puppy decided to check out what I was doing and put her white face into my painting when it was half done. She got red paint all over her mug and messed my painting all up with colors bleeding everywhere! I was able to fix it somewhat though! Of course I had to take a picture of my messed up painting and her face as it was so funny!
I embossed a sentiment from the stamp set with white embossing powder on a Lawn Fawn Guava cardstock banner. I attached that to the lower right corner over the painting. I then backed it with the same color cardstock. I added some Moroccan Red Nuvo Drops around the sentiment banner.
CARD 4:
I made this card using the SSS stencil and the 3 Glitz Glitter Gels included in the kit. It comes with 3 colors, Pearfection, Cherry, and Amethyst. I attached the leaf stencil first and applied Perfection over the stencil with a pallet knife. I had to let each layer dry completely before doing the next one. I used the second stencil for flower petals with the Cherry Paste. I used the Amethyst paste with stencil number 3 for the side petals. I then used Cherry paste again on the fourth stencil for the front petals. I ended up covering up most of the flower centers with other pastes, so I attached the first stencil again and went back over the flower centers with Perfection paste.
I cut this piece down a little and backed it with purple cardstock. I stamped the "love you" stamp from the Poppy Field stamp set on the top left corner. I added some Windsor Wine Nuvo Drops around the sentiment.
CARD 5:
I actually cut this card down to an A2 size! I used the SSS Thin Frame Dies to cut a piece of white cardstock down. I then stamped a portion of the stamp set using Intense Black Ink on the card front and colored it in with Copic Markers.
I then used an MFT banner die for the sentiment stamping it with white embossing powder. I used the same color cardstock for the card base. I applied some Rudolphs Nose Dream Drops around the sentiment. I used Nuvo drops on all of these cards instead of sequins since they were mostly one layer cards.
These cards all look very similar as I stuck to traditional colors for Poppy's on 4 of the cards. The one I used paste on is a bit different though. Which one do you like the best: Copics, Colored Pencils, Pastes, Pawsitively Saturated Inks, or Karin Brushmarkers (watercolors)? This Limited Edition Poppy Field Kit is a great buy and will probably run out of stock quickly, so if you are interested act quickly! You can see all of the STAMPtember collaboration stamp sets here.
