Today Simon Says Stamp has released the last of the STAMPtember surprises. This one is called the First Night Card Kit and it is VERY FULL of beautifully coordinated products to create tags, cards, and any other holiday crafts you want to make! Here is an image of the kit:
I only had time to make one card with it (so far), but I plan on making more when it is shipping and I will post again. This is the second time SSS has done a kit like this and today is only a preview - it will ship in October. You can pre-order it now to make sure you get one though! Here is my card. It was a very time consuming card using the embossing folder in the kit and the stamp set in the kit. But I don't know if I love it - I think it got a little too busy. Oh well - there is LOTS of inspiration with this kit on the SSS Blog, so I know you will find many images that will motivate you to buy it! On with my card...
I started by pulling out the All Star Burst Embossing Folder in the kit and figuring out how I could use it for a background for the stamped images. I decided to color it with Copic markers. I used shades of dark blue and purple to blend it to get lighter by the sun/moon. I colored the rays a light yellow and the stars with a Silver Uniball gel pen. It was hard to stay in the lines around the thin area of the sun/moon, so I used a white uniball to clean up all the lines that were originally yellow. Then I colored them yellow again and the copic covered the Uniball! I finished this time consuming coloring job and attached it to a dark blue card base. (Note: I have no idea why some areas of the rays turned pink - don't get it and don't like it)...
I embossed the three stamps in the First Night stamp set in the kit with Tim Holtz Embossing Glazes in Picked Raspberry, Wilted Violet, and Prize Ribbon. I then colored OVER the embossed areas with the same Copics I used for the sky and some bright pinks. I thought it would look cool to shade them with copics, but I think they looked better before I ruined them with markers! I then cut all of these pieces out as I didn't have the dies. See those windows? Fussy cutting expert haha. I attached the three pieces to a piece of scrap cardstock so they were lined up perfectly together. Then I used foam tape behind them and attached them over the background. I cut off the extra from both sides. I positioned it like I thought it looked best over the background, but the stamp is probably 7" long, so you can use it horizontally or vertically or even on a slimline card (which I was very tempted to do, but I had already colored that embossing folder so...).
I then covered the starts with Silver Moondust Nuvo Glitter Drops and the sun rays with Gold Coast Nuvo Glitter Drops. I stamped a sentiment from the stamp set on white cardstock with Intense Black Ink. I continued showing off my fussy cutting skills and attached it to the top of the purple area. I also stamped the camel with Mary on it and attached that to the left side of the sentiment. I added some of the sequin mix in the kit around the sentiment.
Let's be honest together, shall we? I always tell people I am very self-aware. I know when my cards are good and I know when they suck. This one is good in some ways (love the colors and the amount of time I put into it!), but overdone in my opinion. Sorry about that! Because this First Night Card Kit is sooooo fulllll of sooooo many cooooooool products, I plan on redeeming myself and doing a "one stamp, five ways" post with it when it is ready to ship. So if you are interested in it, buy it now while it is available and come back when it ships and I promise lots more inspiration will be here! Thanks so much for visiting today and happy end of STAMPtember to all (hmmmm, what will I do with all my free time?!?!?!??!). I think the holidays are right around the corner.... Suzy
