This is my first "one stamp, five ways" during STAMPtember as I'm so busy making daily collab cards, I haven't had time to do any of my big posts! For today's I used the SSS October Card Kit called Sunflowers and Daisies. It's such a pretty kit, perfect for starting off Fall. Here is an image of the kit:
I used the Sunflower Fields stamp on all 5 of my cards (thus the title), but I also tried to use every other product in the kit including the gorgeous Fresh Fields embossing folder, the tags, the matching Sunflower Fields stencil, and the two inks. Here are my five cards:
CARD 1:
My first card is a slimline that was inspired by a watercolor picture I did years ago. It was of sunflowers and had a royal blue background with clouds. I have no idea what I did with it, but I decided to try the dark blue sky concept again. I die-cut a rectangle with the SSS Nested Slimline Rectangle Dies. I then stamped the large sunflower stamp on the left side of the card, hanging off along the bottom edge. I then covered the right edge my stamped images with scrap paper (too lazy to cut out a mask) and then stamped the image again so that only part of it showed. This way I was able to use it twice on a slimline design by cutting off just one of the flowers on the left side. I used Intense Black Ink and white cardstock.
I colored the background first with a B28 Royal Blue Copic Sketch Marker. I then colored in the flowers with colored pencils. I used a white Uniball Gel Pen on the tips of the petals and on the leaves. I added some spots of white paint around the background using the end of a paintbrush dipped in the paint. I stamped a sentiment from the stamp set on a white banner with Intense Black Ink. I cut off the edge of it and used foam tape underneath it. I added 3 sparkling clear sequins around the sentiment.
These kraft tags come with the kit in a large set and they are the perfect thickness. They also come with the twine I used in the top of the tags and on my next card (and still have more left). I started by stamping two of the flower stamps on two of the tags with Intense Black Ink. I then colored them in with colored pencils. I used primarily Luminance pencils by Caran d'ache. They are the most opaque of all the pencils, so they work well over colored paper. I used a white Uniball to add details to the stamped images.
I stamped sentiments from the stamp set on both tags. I love that they include some small ones as well. I had to cut off the word "hello" from the "just saying" stamp since I used the larger cursive hello. I used the end of my paintbrush again to add white paint drops around the flowers. I added some Vintage Nuvo Drops in Yellow Brick around the white paint drops. I tied the twine in the top of both tags.
CARD 3:
I stamped the large floral group on white cardstock with Intense Black Ink. I then used the stencils included in the kit that line up with this stamp to ink it. I used the two Pawsitively Saturated inks included in the kit as well as the lighter and darker inks in each of those Trios (Trio 3 and Trio 8). I shaded using the new Detail Round and Detail Flat Blending Brushes to shade. I then used colored pencils to add a bit more shading (couldn't resist). I used a white Uniball gel pen to add light areas on the flowers and leaves. I cut this piece out, not sure how I was going to use it, but you could use the matching dies.
The stamp is too big for a standard A2 card, so to use the entire thing, I ended up with a card that was bigger. The white piece is a standard A2 size and then I matted it twice (so it won't fit in a regular envelope). I attached the cut out image to the white cardstock. I stamped a sentiment from the stamp set on the top left with Intense Black Ink. I added some of the twine that came with the tags in the kit. I tried the thicker hemp cording, but I preferred this twine on this card. I used three colors of Vintage Nuvo Drops around the flowers (Yellow Brick Road, Regency Green, and Chocolate Chip).
I embossed the single daisy stamp with white embossing powder on a piece of Arches Watercolor Paper. I die-cut the paper with the SSS Mini-Slimline Rectangle Dies. I didn't get a perfect impression, but I went with it anyway since the paper is expensive. I used my Nuvo Shimmer Powders to paint it. I used Golden Sparkler for the background. It's the perfect Fall color. It is gold with flecks of dark green and red in it. The more you mix it, the more you lose those colors, so I apply it pretty thick and try not to mix it with too much water. I then used a new color I was happy to order as soon as it was released called Maroon Spark for the flower and leaves.
I flicked paint drops of both colors over the background when it was wet and then again when it dried so they were darker. I matted it with white and then dark red. I also added Nuvo Drops in Mustard Gold and Postbox Red around the background. I tied some of the twine around the card front knotting it in the center of the flower stem. I then tied a double bow and glued that over the knot. I embossed a sentiment from the stamp set with Antique Gold embossing powder on a stitched square banner. I attached that to the top of the card. I added some of the Nuvo Drops around the sentiment as well.
CARD 5:
This is my favorite card because these are my favorite colors (I'm all about Spring colors and don't favor Fall colors). I embossed the Fresh Fields Embossing Folder with white cardstock. I then colored it with Copic markers. It is easy to color these embossed images because the raised designs have obvious edges. I find Copics are the best tool to color them with. I cut this piece down and attached it to a card base made with Bubblegum Blush cardstock by Heffy Doodle (one of my new favorite colors).
I stamped a sentiment from the stamp set on the top right side of the card with Intense Black Ink. I love the font these sentiments are in and that they are petite. This one looks perfect on the embossing folder design. I added a few jewels around the sentiment from the Honeybee Hugs and Kisses Gem Stickers.
Even though I'm not a Fall color person, I did enjoy this Sunflowers and Daisies October Card Kit with the gorgeous Sunflower Fields floral stamp set. With so many different sentiments, I know I will use it often. I also love the Fresh Fields embossing folder in the kit - it's one of my all time favorites from SSS so far! Thanks so much for visiting today and I hope you enjoyed this "one stamp, five ways" post! Suzy
Wow, Suzy, this is my favorite project using the Oct. SSS kit. I love the spring colors and your Copic coloring makes the flowers look so realistic. I'm new to your blog. Thanks for sharing your talent with us.
