Today is not another collaboration stamp set post, rather it's a little more special! I have a "one stamp, five ways" post to share with you today using a Limited Edition Halloween Kit by Simon Says Stamp called "Home Sweet Haunted Home". As in the case with all of their kits, they are limited supply and once they are gone, they are gone. So act quick if you are interested. Here is an image of this very full kit!
My "one stamp, five ways" title means I focus on the 6" x 8" stamp set in the kit also called Home Sweet Haunted Home. There is also a set of Home Sweet Haunted Home dies to go with it. Here is an image of both (sold separately):
I'm not a big Halloween person. I don't enjoy anything that is scary. But I do like this stamp set as it is more whimsical and fun and I love love love the font used in the sentiments (thanks to Kristina Werner). I also love the way it is doodled with several lines around the items. You know if you read my blog that I do that look a lot. So I did have fun making cards with the stamp set and some of the other goodies in the kit that are sold alone including the Halloween Candy stencil and the Pumpkin Patch embossing folder. Because they all had pumpkins on them, I ended up with 3 cards that look a bit similar. My apologies! I also used the Sassy Witch Hat die in the kit and the two Ranger Distress Mica Stains in the kit. Ok, let's get started!
My first card uses the "not so spooky" haunted house in the Home Sweet Haunted Home stamp set. I stamped all of the images used with Intense Black Ink on white cardstock. I colored in the images with colored pencils. I added shading to the clouds with a light grey pencil. I fussy cut all of the images out, but having the matching dies would be way easier.
I made the background by die-cutting a piece of Ranger WC Paper with the SSS A2 Thin Frame Die. I then painted it with Nuvo Shimmer Powder in Meteorite Shower. I use that one for night skies all the time. I splattered some white acrylic paint over it. I attached all of the images with foam tape behind them. I embossed the sentiment and the stars with white embossing powder. I added some Night Sky Glitter Drops around the background. I used Lilac Whisper Glitter Drops over the details on the house.
CARD 2:
I created the background of this card by die-cutting a piece of white cardstock with the largest frame in the SSS Thin Frame Dies. I then sprayed the Burning Ember Distress Mica Stain on the top half of the cardstock. I sprayed the Harvest Moon Distress Mica Stain on the bottom half overlapping the ember color which is darker os the two colors mixed in the middle. It is so pretty and shimmery in person. I attached it to a white card base.
I stamped several of the smaller images in the Home Sweet Haunted Home stamp set with Intense Black Ink. I cut the candy corn apart so they were individual I embossed the sentiment from the stamp set in the center of the card with Wow Primary Ebony embossing powder. I then arranged the stamped images as well as the Jolee's Boutique Candy Corn stickers in the kit. In between the images I used Morrocan Flame Dream Drops and Black Board Vintage Drops. Two things to note: I set the sentiment stamp where I wanted it and then arranged the images and glued them on around it. I embossed it last. That left black embossing powder residue on some of my candy corn stickers - so do it first. Also, when gluing on the stamped images, I moved them a bit at times and the glue messed up the look of the background, so there are spots around them. Be more careful than I was when placing them down with glue on them (or don't use a wet glue). Lessons learned!
CARD 3:
I used the Halloween Candy stencil in the kit for this card with Pawsitively Saturated Inks. I used the Trio 9 for the pumpkins applying them with SSS brushes. I used the lightest color first and then the darker color on the edges. I used Trio 3 for the yellow on the candy corn again shading with the darker color. I used Trio 8 for the green stems. While the stencil was attached for the candy corn, I used a gray colored pencil to outline around the top of each. Once I removed the stencils, I added more gray shading on this part. I also added some additional shading with colored pencils to the other items to darker the edges.
I die-cut this piece down and attached it to a piece of the patterned paper in the kit. I then die-cut a banner using the SSS Word Mix 2 wafer dies for the banner. I embossed the sentiment in the stamp set with white embossing powder over it (note: this sentiment fit perfectly on this banner if you have these dies!). I attached it to the top of the stenciled part of the card with foam tape behind it. I then added some Nuvo drops around the images in Ripened Pumpkin and Orange Soda Glitter Drops.
CARD 4:
I die-cut a piece of Arches watercolor paper with the largest die in the SSS Slimline Rectangle Dies. I then sprayed a lot of both of the Mica Stains over this paper in a couple of layers. It got so wet, that I ended up using my finger to mix the colors and then I let it sit and dry. It turned out gorgeous! It is a pretty orange with the two colors mixed together. The arches paper really soaked up a lot of the color so it dried easily even though I used a lot. I attached that to a white card base.
I die-cut two of the Sassy Witch Hat dies from the glitter papers in the card kit I also used a darker purple glitter paper I had for the details on the bows. I glued them together - it's nice that it has a die for the base so all of the pieces glue together on top of it. I used foam tape behind the front piece of the hat. I attached these to the top and bottom of my slimline background. I then added some of the stickers in the kit around them. I had to cut the two crows off other stickers. I used Black Board Nuvo Drops over the eyes on all of the stickers. I embossed two of the sentiments from the stamp set that I joined together in the center of the card with white embossing powder. I used Nuvo Drops all around the background in Dandelion Yellow, Black Board and Night Sky Glitter drops.
CARD 5:
I love this Pumpkin Patch Embossing Folder. If I was only going to buy one thing from the kit, this is what I would get. I think it's cool that it looks like pumpkins and gourds so it can work as a Thanksgiving or general Fall card. I embossed it with a piece of white cardstock that had been die-cut with the largest rectangle in the SSS Thin Frame Rectangle Dies. I then colored the raised edges with Copic Markers. I find this really easy to do with embossing folders. Copics work so well in coloring them. I did use some colored pencils in the deep ridges on the images for additional shading. I also used a white Uniball gel pen over each gourd.
I stamped the sentiment from the stamp set on white cardstock with Sherbet Pawsitively Saturated Ink. I am so pleased that these dye inks give you such a good impression, especially on a stamp like this with tiny little letters. I die-cut this piece with one of the circles in the SSS Stitched Circle Dies I attached that over one one of the pumpkins with foam tape beneath. I added Nuvo Drops in Mustard Gold and Moroccan Flame Dream Drops.
I wonder if any of you actually READ all of my wordy directions on cards. I love to inspire others to try things and strongly encourage anyone that wants to to life my designs. Make them exactly as mine are and post all over the place - I don't care! I just want to inspire you to use your SSS products! I hope you like this 5 card post using many of the items in this Home Sweet Haunted Home Limited Edition card kit. I didn't even get a chance to use the bags and tags, so I will be able to make many more projects with this loaded kit! Thanks so much for visiting today and Happy STAMPtember! You can see all of the collaboration stamp sets from STAMPtember here and you can see all of the SSS STAMPtember products here. xoxo suzy
I loved all these cards. They would be fun to give to little kids. I'm a scary card giver but, as you said, not everyone likes scary cards and this kit doesn't lent itself to scary. But it sure does lend it self to Happy Halloween. I loved the mica sprays. They really turned out well. I'm glad I bought them. Thanks for sharing, Suzy. I did read all the dialogue you had for how you did your cards.
Happy Halloween
