Do you like ice cream? Do I even need to ask? I was super excited to see the two ice cream cone dies in the new Dream Big release by Simon Says Stamp. So were my grand-kids. I'll get to that later. The dies are called the Ice Cream Scoop Die and the Soft Serve Cone Die. I also used the Dibble Dot Embossing Folder from the Dream Big release on this card. Here is an image of the two cone dies (click on for link to SSS store):
Now to the grand-kids story. They came over when I was die-cutting these cones out. They decided they wanted to decorate some as well. I tried die-cutting them from pre-painted paper I had, but NO, my 7 year old grand-daughter insisted on painting them herself. With my Nuvo Shimmer Powders (her favorites). I have a new rug in my bedroom, but out came the Shimmer Powders without even thinking of relocating. I had a 4 year old and a 7 year old squeezing the powders onto their cones which usually came out in a big pile as they squeeze way too hard, while I was running to grab scrap paper and paper towels thing to cover everything in site. It was crazy - that's all I can say about this little crafting play date. She got out the sequins and Nuvo drops (as of course she knows where those are as well) and really went crazy. I highly recommend this craft for kids of all ages - hahaha. But maybe at a table that is covered with paper towels! Here they are with their creations:
And here is MY card. Which didn't get started until I recovered for a day or two!
I started by making the background with the Dibble Dots embossing folder. This folder is so cool that I am not surprised it is on backorder at SSS! I tried embossing it by inking the folder itself with 3 colors of ink by rubbing them against the folder, but it didn't look good. So I did it this way instead. I embossed the folder with which cardstock first after misting it with my Ranger Mini Mister. I then used the Ranger Foam Blending Domes to apply 3 colors of Pawsitively Saturated Ink so it was rubbed on softly and not all the way to the edges. I used Heather from Trio 17, Carnation from Trio 12, and Marine from Trio 7. I cut this piece smaller and attached it to a white cardstock card base.
I die-cut two of both the Ice Cream Scoop Die and the Soft Serve Cone Die from white cardstock. I then colored them with Copic markers. I used the smaller cone twice and the smaller scoop twice. I added a lot of shading and dots with the markers, but I ended up covering them with Nuvo Glitter Drops, so I didn't need to color so carefully! I glued them onto the card front with foam tape underneath the scoops.
I die-cut two different sentiments from the CZ Chill Summer Sentiment Strips as I felt like the sentiments went really well with ice-cream cones! I used the SSS Sentiment Label dies for the smaller one. I added them onto the bottom of the cones with foam tape beneath. I used 3 sparkling clear sequins around the sentiments.
I love how fun this card is! I hope I can find just the right person to send it to. Although my grand-daughter usually steals all of my fun cards, so it won't be mine for long anyway. I hope you enjoyed this post and that these two ice-cream dies motivates you to craft with your loved ones! Thanks so much for visiting today! Suzy
