One of the 6x8 stamp sets in the Let's Chill release is called Soaring Birthday. I hadn't used it yet as I thought of it as more of a kites themed set at first glance. But then I looked closer and realized it was a birthday set (thus the name!) and saw lots of potential in it for birthday cards. Here is an image of the stamp set with the matching die sold together:
I had seen people use the darling little rope swing, so I will definitely be using that stamp in the future. My card today though uses all of the little birthday themed items in the Soaring Birthday stamp set.
I used my favorite technique I call "random stamping" for this card. I like it because a) it is easy and a go to for me and b) it shows off lots of small stamp images well and c) it requires coloring which I love to do and d) you don't need the matching dies! I stamped all of the images on a piece of white cardstock with SSS Intense Black Ink. I also love doing this as I like puzzles and it is fun stamping the images to all fit together. I have a bunch of these I've messed up and saved for my grandkids to color as they are really fun to color!
Next, I colored all of the images in with colored pencils. I wish I had used Copics as they go much faster, but my pencils were handy, so I used those. I don't know why I spent so much time coloring though as I ended up covering all of the colored images with matching Nuvo Glitter Drops! I also used a gray colored pencil to add shadows to all the images.
I used the SSS A2 Thin Frame Dies for the outside edges (without the frame) and also for the sentiment. They are rectangles, so I stamped the sentiment with black ink on the left side of the rectangle. I then cut off the edges along the white edge of the card. I then attached the card to a turquoise card base. I die-cut a matching frame for the sentiment with the same color cardstock and attached it around the three edges that were on the white part of the card. Then I cut the edge off the left over piece of frame and glued it over the background to complete the look of a frame around the sentiment. I hope that made sense! I also used more glossy Nuvo drops around the background.
This was a really fun and easy birthday card to make. I should have done a bunch of them at one time and let my grandkids color them! I think this Soaring Birthday stamp set has so many different uses with kites, a swing, and all these birthday images! Thanks so much for visiting! Suzy
