The August Card Kit from Simon Says Stamp was released tonight and it is called Vintage Garden. Based on my cards above, you can see there are a lot of florals in this stamp set! I have a "one stamp, five ways" post to share with you today using the entire kit, but focusing on the stamp set which is also called Vintage Garden. It also has an embossing folder in it called Picnic Floral which I used on 3 of my 5 cards. The Vintage Garden stamp set and Picnic Floral embossing folder are sold alone as well as in the kit. Here is an image of the kit:
You can also purchase two sets of dies that go with the Vintage Garden Stamp Set. There is one set that is for the florals called Vintage Garden Stems Dies and another set that is for the greetings called Vintage Gardens Words Dies. And here are my five cards using the Vintage Garden Card kit:
CARD 1:
This was the first card I made, so I spent a lot of time on it before I realized that coloring all of these stamped images might not be the best idea! I stamped all of the flowers and butterflies from the Vintage Garden stamp set with Pawsitively Saturated Ink in Latte (trying this ink out instead of MFT Natural Ink as they have discontinued it). I then used very sharp colored pencils to color all of the flowers in. It was a bit of a challenge with all of the little detailed lines on the stamps, but I was watching the new Bachelorette while I colored, so I didn't mind haha. I then cut around the images as I didn't have the matching dies.
I embossed the Picnic Floral embossing folder with a piece of the Lavender cardstock in the kit. I then rubbed Hero Arts Unicorn white ink over the raised portions. I cut that piece down with the SSS A2 Thin Frame die and mounted it on a white cardstock base. I then attached all of my colored flowers over it. I cut apart the flower image that has 3 flowers in it and put them over the others with foam tape behind them. I stamped a sentiment from the stamp set with Intense Black Ink on a stitched rectangle I had in my stash (from a Pretty Pink Posh Storybook die). I attached that to the top and added the colored butterfly next to it. I added some Doodlebug Retro Jewels and some Honeybee Hugs and Kisses Jewels around the sentiment. I still have all of my Pretty Pink Posh jewels, but I love that these new sets I just bought have glue dots on the back of them!
CARD 2:
I die-cut a piece of Ranger Watercolor Paper with the largest die in the SSS Nested Slimline Rectangle Dies. I then embossed all of the stamped images in the Vintage Garden stamp set over it with Ranger Extra Fine White Embossing Powder. I painted over this piece with Daniel Smith watercolors. I wish I had used my Nuvo Shimmer powders as they come in these same colors, but I forgot about them! I used colored pencils to fill in some of the flowers after it was dry. I attached it to a white slimline card base.
I embossed a sentiment from the stamp set on another stitched rectangle (from a PPP Storybook die) with Ranger Cactus Flower embossing powder. I attached that to the top of the card. I'm just realizing as I look at this card, that I forgot to add any embellishments - that is so unlike me! I have Nuvo Drops that match or sparkling clear sequins would have looked nice - oooops! At least I flicked some of the paint over it while it was still wet giving it some speckles!
CARD 4:
This time I embossed the Picnic Floral embossing folder in the kit with one of the Smoke scored notecards in the kit (I cut it into two pieces). I first rubbed the SSS Embossing Ink in the kit over the flat surface of the embossing folder. I then ran it through my die-cut machine. I poured the SSS Silver Embossing Powder in the kit over the embossing ink and embossed it. It turned out so pretty although you can't see the pretty sparkle in the photos! I then rubbed a white Hero Arts Unicorn Ink pad over it and it looked perfect1 But then I ruined it as I ran it through my die-cut machine with the SSS A2 Thin Frame die and the ink wasn't dry, so most of it came off. I used a White Uniball gel pen to add some white to the flowers although I think it looked better before with just the ink as it was more subtle.
I embossed the Thank You stamp with the same SSS Silver Embossing Powder in the kit. I found a rectangle that fit around it perfectly in the Mama Elephant B2B Rectangle die set I just bought - yay! I attached that to the bottom of the card with foam tape beneath it. I then embossed the three flowers in the stamp set with Brutus Monroe Wisteria Lane embossing powder and cut them out. I also embossed the butterfly with both the silver and the wisteria embossing powder and cut them out. I layered them on the top of the sentiment bending the leaves of the purple one so you can see the silver one below. I added some purple and sparkling clear sequins around the sentiment. I had planned on making this card with just images embossed with the silver embossing powder, so you can see those images on the right side of the photo. But then I felt like it needed another color in it, so I threw in the purple instead.
CARD 4:
This is my favorite card as everyone knows I love lots of spring type colors! I embossed the Picnic Floral embossing folder with white cardstock. I then colored all of the flowers in with Copic markers. I outlined some of the flowers with colored pencils to make them pop a little more. I also colored the background around the flowers with light yellow Copics. I cut this piece down and mounted it on a piece of Heffy Doodle Wildberry cardstock (a new favorite color of mine - I love discovering new cardstock colors).
I used ANOTHER stitched rectangle from a PPP Storybook die for the sentiment - the sizes just worked really well with the sentiments in the stamp set. If I had the dies, I would have just used them though! I keep a bunch of die-cut rectangles in a baggie so I can pull them out when I need them for sentiments, so these were all ready to go for me! I used Intense Black Ink. I attached it to the front of the card with foam tape behind it. I also stamped one of the butterflies in the Vintage Garden stamp set with Latte Ink and colored over it with colored pencils. I cut the butterfly out and attached it above the sentiment. I added some Pink Orchid Nuvo Drops and sparkling clear sequins around the sentiment rectangle.
CARD 5:
This is a very simple card for me! I used the Lavender cardstock in the kit. I then embossed the floral images from the Vintage Garden stamp set with Brutus Monroe Wisteria embossing powder. I then die-cut it with a Mama Elephant B2B rectangle die and attached it to a white card base. I colored in the open areas of the stamps with a white Uniball gel pen.
I stamped a sentiment from the Vintage Garden stamp set with Intense Black Ink on a small banner from the SSS Word Mix Two Wafer Dies. I attached it to the right of the card and added some white jewels and sparkling clear sequins around the sentiment. I used the Honeybee Back to Basics Jewell set.
I have to be honest here - the Vintage Garden card kit is not really in my favorite colors. I work with each of the monthly kits and some will be my colors and some will not. But what I love about these kits is I can always make them ME! I made all of my cards but one more bright and I didn't use any of the patterned papers in the kit. I just gravitate to bright colors, so I'm glad I can always adapt the kits to my style. Sorry that I'm not showing cards with the papers included in the kit as they are gorgeous! Thanks so much for visiting today! Suzy
