Oh I'm so excited to share a "one stamp, five ways" post with you because it's been a long time! I have to be in the mood to make 5 cards with one stamp set and I have to have a stamp that makes me WANT to make 5 cards with it! I have been staring at this stamp set for a while, not sure how to use it. Well, since the Hello Gorgeous release. I finally got a chance to play with it and realized I really like it and it would be good for a 5 card post! The stamp set is called Sweet Birds. If you are like me, you may have not been able to visualize it from the image. It is sold as a set with dies or you can buy just the stamp set and the dies separately.
I will say this - if you have this stamp set or buy this stamp set, you need the set of matching dies for sure. You know I am cheap when it comes to dies as I don't mind fussy cutting. But I'll explain why. I first tried stamping the images, but it was hard to know how they should line up. So I decided to die-cut them first and then it was really easy to fit the stamps into the right spot.
I ended up die-cutting two of each of the birds from white cardstock. Then I stamped them all with Pawsitively Saturated Inks. Then I went over them with colored pencils to add shading and fix any areas that didn't line up perfectly (pencils made these look SO much better I think). I also added details with a White Uniball gel pen. Then I made my 5 cards. So all of the birds are done the same exact way, just the other parts of the cards are "five ways" to use them. Make sense?
CARD 1:
I started this card by die-cutting two of the A2 Marquee Wafer Dies from white cardstock. I flicked all the holes out of them with my finger (it works). I attached the larger one to a steel blue card base. I then colored the smaller one with Copic markers in grayish blues. I attached that on top of the white one.
I die-cut a branch using the SSS Pivet Branch Die. I colored it with Copics and attached it over the bottom of the blue marquee die. I then attached on of my birds that I had die-cut, stamped, and colored with pencils to the top of it with foam tape. I cut a couple of the leaves off that didn't show and moved them to show so they weren't wasted behind the bird! I stamped "miss you" from the All About You stamp set on a white banner using Intense Black Ink and placed that on the top of the card. I added some sequins from the Midnight Sparkle Mix around the sentiment.
CARD 2:
I die-cut the Laurel Leaves Background Plate die from white cardstock. I used Pixie tape alone the white edges so I could keep them white. I then colored all of the leaves with Copics. I applied glue to the edges and to the stems of the leaves, but not to the leaves themselves as I wanted them to stick up a bit. I used a piece of blue patterned paper over a white card base and then glued the frame over it.
I used one of my stamped and colored birds over the top of it with foam tape behind it - this one being a cardinal. I also used one of the branches in the stamp set stamped with brown ink. I used a pre-printed sentiment strip from the Reverse Yay You set die-cut with a Honey Bee Sentiment Strip die. I attached that to the bottom of the card with foam tape behind it. I added some Iceberg Blue Jewel drops around the sky.
CARD 3:
I'm really digging these SSS Nested Domed Dies for cards. I die-cut two of the second largest die and one of the second largest frames (by attaching the two largest dies together to form a frame). I attached the two domes together with a piece of folded over white cardstock glued between them to form a card. I then attached a piece of blue patterned paper from my stash (Paper Rose I believe) over the top dome. I glued the white frame over it to create the Background.
I die-cut the Etched Eucalyptus die from white cardstock and colored it with green Copics. I glued it to the bottom center of my card front. I used the yellow stamped and colored bird in the center with foam tape behind it. I stamped some of the leaves with Pawsitively Saturated Inks and die-cut them out. I attached them with foam tape behind them around the wreath to pump it up a bit. I used some Vintage Nuvo Drops around the wreath in Pioneer Green, Regency Green, and Yellow Brick. I love how the Vintage Nuvo Drops are matte instead of glossy. I stamped a sentiment from the Love Day stamp set and die-cut it with the matching die using Intense Black Ink. I attached that with foam tape behind it to the top of the card.
CARD 4:
This card is NOT my colors, so I'm trying to like it, but I'm not there yet haha. I started by cutting a piece of orangish red patterned paper to fit on the front of a mini-slimline card base. I then die-cut the Mini-Slimline Lattice Wafer Die from white cardstock. I used a metal cutting plate, but it was still hard to remove all of the inside pieces without tearing it. So I recommend running it through the die-cut machine a couple of times. I spent way too long punching out the pieces and trying to save mine haha. I blued it over the coral paper for the front of the card.
I die-cut the "You're On My Heart" die from deep orange cardstock and white cardstock. I glued the white letters over the orange set and attached that to the bottom front of the card. I used one of my branches and my birds that was already colored over the top of the card. Because of the busy background, I resisted the urge to add any sequins or Nuvo drops and this might be my first card without them EVER!
CARD 5:
I die-cut a piece of light blue cardstock with the largest die in the SSS Nested Slimline Rectangle Dies. I then die-cut the "You Mean The World To Me" die from white cardstock. I colored in the letters with Copics. I should have done this by die-cutting two sets and punching the letters out and then coloring them. But instead, I had to very carefully not touch the edges which was a bit of a challenge! Thus I didn't blend the letters very well. I attached that to the center of the card front with foam tape behind it.
I used my last two colored birds which were stamped with PSInks and colored with pencils. I used a branch under each. I used some of the leaves I had stamped around them. I also used some leaves I had left over from some cards I had made with a previous kit stamp set called Better With Mom. I thought they looked nice and I love using up images I've already colored. I cut them apart and tucked them under the birds to fill up each area. I added some sequins from the Midnight Sparkle sequin mix.
I now LOVE this Sweet Birds stamp set which at first intimidated me! It was really fun to stamp them with all my PSInks. I did have to dig into some Hero Arts inks for the red ones now that I think about it! The pencils really added a lot to them so they look like they have feathers. Pencils are always that finishing touch for me! I hope you enjoyed this "one stamp, five ways" post. Have a great weekend friends! Suzy
