Way back in the summer of 2020, SSS released a set of my "Suzy's Doodles" watercolor cards called Under the Sea. The summer of 2020 will go down in history as the start of our house arrest period. At that time, they were part of the Sending Happiness release and I showed all 12 painted during the blog hop on this post here. This set was at teh end of the period where they contained 12 individual designs. I think this was one of my favorites. Here is an image:
Like I mentioned in my blog post yesterday, I just spent a week at my mom's house so I took some of my favorite watercolor cards to paint/color. I colored the fish card as it is one of my favorite cards of ALL of my sets! I love these crazy fish haha. I should design a stamp set using them! Let me know if you like that idea! Here is my card.
I know I sound like a Karin Marker sales person, but I promise I am not. My love affair with my new Decobrush Markers is truly puppy love. I used my new markers to color this card and I love how it turned out. I first purchased the set of 36 called the Designer Set. But then for Mother's Day I bought myself all the other sets (4 more, so 7 sets total). So after that big expense, I have been using them a lot so I can feel it was justified haha. They work great on the Ranger WC paper these cards are printed on. They give you an opaque look like acrylic paints in a brush and you don't use water with them. After I colored it with the markers, I went back with a white Luminance color pencil (SSS sells these in sets of 3) over the entire background. It lightened it and smoothed it since I used so many colors in it. It also gave me some white lines. I love how the background turned out.
I used a white Uniball gel pen to add details to the fish. It works so well over the bright/opaque colors of these markers. I die-cut this piece with the SSS A2 Thin Frame Dies - using the largest frame. I also die-cut a frame from white cardstock. I glued the frame around the card. I could have just attached it to a white card base, but the frame looks better! I'm usually just too lazy to use them, so I use the die just to die-cut the inner piece on almost every card.
I also attached a sentiment using the new Wedding Sentiment Labels (not just for weddings!). I used the Honey Bee Sentiment Label dies to die-cut it. I love these dies as they come with several sized banners that work perfectly over the sentiment labels. They allow you to die-cut the label out without being too wide to ruin your ability to use the labels above and below it. I attached that with foam tape to the middle of the card. I might prefer it without the sentiment though as it is in the first picture! I hated covering up any of those bright funky fish! You could use ANY sentiment with this card.
I gotta be honest. I've stopped illustrating these Suzy's Doodles watercolor cards, but I still LOVE to color them. They are so much fun to do on the run. I ended up giving a bunch to my cousin as well and she had fun coloring them. They are perfect to use with ANY coloring medium because the paper is so thick. I hope you enjoyed this card from the Under the Sea set which is perfect for this coming summer! Thanks for visiting! Suzy
