Today's "one stamp, five ways" was a really fun one. I worked with the cling background stamp called Flower Frenzy from the latest SSS Happy and Joyful release. It is a flat stamp which is always out of my comfort zone and it's a cling stamp primarily for backgrounds, also not my typical go to for these posts. The fun came from being challenged to think outside the box and come up with different ways to use it. And I succeeded and can't wait to show them all to you! Here is an image of the stamp:
And here are my five PLUS cards (I mean, who can stop with just five?!?!?!!). For each of my five card techniques, I took a photo of the backgrounds alone first so you could really see them and then I made them into cards. I used lots of products from both the Happy and Joyful release and the Hello Gorgeous release to add sentiments and decorations to them.
For these backgrounds, I used the Flower Frenzy cling stamp with a gel press and Pawsitively Saturated Inks. I pressed four colors of ink on the top of my Gel Press just here and there trying not to touch the colors to each other so I didn't ruin my ink pads. I used Lemonade, Grapefruit, Blush, and Watermelon. I then took my brayer and ran it over the Gel Press in different directions to mix the colors together. I pressed the Flower Frenzy cling stamp to the top of the Gel Press and pressed as hard as I could. I then lifted it off and pressed it onto a piece of cardstock. The card on the top left is from that press and the card on the top right is from me trying the same thing again, but spritzing the stamp with some water before stamping it which gave me more intense colors. Next, I pressed a piece of white cardstock on the Gel Press itself to pick up the print left from the stamp. That is the bottom card above. It's subtle, but so pretty. I mixed the colors more than I would have liked with my brayer. I think this would look really cool with more color distinction maybe by using some different color families on the Gel Press. I want to try it again!
I made two of these backgrounds into cards. The one on the left is the one from pressing the cardstock onto the Gel Press itself and the one on the right is the one of the ones I stamped with the Flower Frenzy stamp. I embossed two sentiments from the XL Stacked Greetings stamp set and I die-cut them out with the matching rectangle die. I then attached them to the card fronts with foam tape and added some sparkling clear sequins around the one on the left and some Peachy Keen sequin mix to the one on the right. I used a mixture of embossing powders (sometimes I mix colors in a baggie if I don't have one I like or I pour one color on some of the image and then another color on other areas of it as I did here) including Wow Gitty's Power and Ranger Embossing Glazes in Crackling Campfire and Saltwater Taffy.
For these two backgrounds, I used Nuvo Shimmer Powders in Atlantis Burst, Blue Blitz, and Falling Leaves. For the one on the left, I embossed the Flower Frenzy cling stamp with Ranger White Embossing Powder first, and then I painted a mix of the 3 shimmer powders over it. I had to go back with a wet paintbrush and remove the shimmer powder from the embossed areas and when I dabbed them with a paper towel, I ended up lightening the background quite a bit. So next, I tried it the opposite way. I painted the background first and really built up some color with the Shimmer Powders, and then I embossed over it with Ranger white embossing powder. The problem with this one was the powder didn't stick to all the areas so I ended up with more white embossing, but not great coverage. I think they both look fine though! Either way works, but I probably need to be better at it! haha
I made the two backgrounds into the two cards above. I used the SSS A2 Marquee dies (the smallest one) for the center pieces. I stamped sentiments using the XL Spring Greetings stamp set and die-cut them out with the matching dies. And then I had a wonderful surprise discovery! This stamp set includes flowers that match the Flower Frenzy cling stamp perfectly and they have matching dies! So I stamped a bunch of them as well and arranged them around the sentiments. I used Nuvo Glitter Drops over them. For the inks, I used the darkest shades of Pawsitively Saturated Inks in the Trio 1, 2, 13, and 7 sets (dark green, teal, and blue). I added some Pretty Pink Posh Jewels to the card and to the flower centers in Aquamarine and Spring Green.
For this set of backgrounds, I used my Karin Brushmarkers and Arches watercolor paper. I spent quite a while coloring all of the images on the Flower Frenzy stamp set with the brushmarkers. You could use any watercolor markers for this. I even shaded the flowers with a darker color on the inside and a lighter color on the outside. I was kind of freaked out that the inks were all drying before I stamped though. But i had seen this done by a couple other designers during the 2 day blog hop (can't remember names or I would credit them!), so I persevered on! Once I colored all of the images, before stamping, I lightly sprayed with a Ranger Mini Mister to rewet the colors. I stamped the darker one on the right first and then the lighter one second. I added more water before stamping the second one. I also used a wet paintbrush on the stamped images to move some color around where it was blotchy. Fun technique and I like both of the stamped images from one coloring session!
With these two backgrounds, I used the SSS Delicate Floral Frames stamp set. I stamped the frames with Intense Black Ink and colored in the little leaves. I die-cut them out with the matching dies. I adhered them with foam tape to the backgrounds. I stamped a sentiment from the stamp stamp set for the one on the right. I embossed a sentiment for the one on the left with the XL Spring Greetings stamp set. I added some sequins around both frames.
This background was so fun to make and a total experiment! I wanted to use Tonic Nuvo Drops over all of the images in the stamp set to add color. So I stamped the Flower Frenzy stamp set with my lights color of Pawsitively Saturated Ink - Lemonade. I realized as I added Nuvo Drops over the images that the yellow really shows through, so all my Pink drops turned orange. But that was ok - it just made me use colors that all blended with this look. I think it would have been pretty if I used a really light blue to stamp it and all blue and purple Nuvo drops to color it. I used lots of Nuvo Glitter Drops and other glossy and vintage drops - most of my collection really haha. It was fun and easy to do. For some, I would add a second layer to get more dimension and color. I used a colored pencil over the green stem. I don't recommend this technique to be used very often as it was a bit time consuming. But if you are like me and love to color, it was certainly a fun challenge and a new coloring medium to try out haha.
I stamped a sentiment from the CZ Spring In My Step stamp and die set. I used Pucker Pawsitively Saturated Ink to stamp it. I then used Orange Soda Glitter Drops over the larger words. I attached it with foam tape to the bottom of the card. I had an extra butterfly colored from the stamp set that was in a recent card kit called Joys of Spring. I had colored it in with Copics and I also used Nuvo Glitter Drops over the wings. I attached that above the sentiment to finish the card.
As I have mentioned about a 1,000 times recently, I have a new set of Karin Decobrush Markers which are kind of like an acrylic paint in a brush marker. I love using them since they are new! I bought myself ALL the colors for Mother's Day and thank goodness as I that was the only gift I got yesterday haha (although I opened them a few weeks early!). I wanted to see how they worked on colored cardstock. I stamped the Flower Frenzy stamp set on a teal cardstock (just normal cardstock thickness) with Hero Arts Unicorn white ink. I just did a light coverage and then let it dry. I colored over it with the markers. I realized that I should have stamped it twice with as much coverage of the white as possible as the teal showed through some of the colors. If I had a white base, they would have been easy to cover. But it worked and I enjoyed using my new toy!
I added some little dots to the flowers with a White Uniball Gel Pen. I stamped a sentiment from the All About Mom stamp set with matching dies. I used Tim Holtz Kitsch Flamingo Embossing Glaze which is my brightest pink embossing powder. I still didn't think it was bright enough to match the flowers on the card, so I went over the letters with my Pink (from the Basics box) marker to match. It worked! I also used a butterfly from the Etched Butterfly Die and colored it with the Decobrush Markers as well to match. I used Glitter rDrops over the leaves. I hated covering up some of that background, but I think the butterfly is a nice focal point.
Once more picture since it was my favorite card!
Whew - this post took quite a bit of time, but I hope it inspires someone out there to use their cling stamps more! It is so fun to try different techniques and coloring mediums with them. I think they are under-appreciated in my stamp stash! I love this Flower Frenzy cling stamp though as it makes the perfect background for so many of my large sentiment stamps. I now have all kinds of card subjects done since I made multiples of some (9 cards done in total!). Thanks for visiting today and happy belated Mother's Day to ALLLLLLLLLL WOMEN!!! suzy
Here is a list of ALL of the products I used in this post. Many are linked throughout the post. Thank you for using any of my links!!!
