Today, Simon Says Stamp released a Limited Edition Mother's Day Kit called You Mean the World To Me. They call it a Mother's Day kit, but there is SO MUCH in this one, that it isn't really that focused on the holiday (meaning it can be used for lots of other stuff). The sentiments in the 6x8" stamp set are focused on Mother's, but that is about it. That stamp set is called Better With Mom and there is also a set of matching dies (which I wish I had had!).
The kit includes a set of Suzy's Watercolor Cards (I'm Suzy haha) called Birthday Flowers which are sold alone. I loved cutting these flower designs out and using them with the amazing Paige Evans America Crafts patterned papers in the kit. These might be my favorite kit papers ever! I also LOVE the Layered Butter Stencil that has 3 layers of goodness to it and is also sold alone. I have 5 cards to share with you now using the Better With Mom stamp set and the kit contents and then I'll be sharing a few more cards focused on my set of 6 watercolor cards in the kit later this week.
CARD 1:
My first card is 100% focused on the Better With Mom stamp set! I started by stamping the floral grouping on the top and the bottom of an A2 piece of white cardstock. As usual, I used MFT Natural Ink and colored them in with colored pencils. I kept my coloring really soft. I also stamped two of the little bees and two of the smaller butterflies in the stamp set and cut them out (oh to have the matching dies haha).
I used the Lawn Fawn Just Double Stitching rectangle die around the outside edge. I then embossed a sentiment between the flowers with Ranger Wilted Violet Embossing Glaze. I glued the butterflies and bees around the sentiment only attaching the center of the butterflies so I could bend the wings up a little. I used Nuvo Jewel Drops in Iceberg Blue and Honeysuckle around the flowers.
CARD 2:
For this card, I die-cut a large slim-line rectangle with the SSS Nested Slimline Rectangle dies from white cardstock. I then used a pencil to divide the area into 3 equal parts. I used the Layering Butterfly Stencil in the kit with Pawsitively Saturated Inks. All the colors I used are in the supply list. Since I bought these inks, I don't use any others anymore - I just LOVE the colors! I like using the Ranger domed blending foam when I want colors to be softer. They are always more intense with the brushes. I used the blending foams for the butterfly background and then the small brushes for the details so the colors stood out more.
I used the Ranger gems in the kit in the center of each butterfly. I mounted this piece on 3 of the patterned papers that matched each butterfly. I stamped the sentiment with Intense Black Ink between the bottom 2 butterflies. I resisted the temptation to use Nuvo Drops on this card as I wanted it to be simple and graphic (which is so not my strength!).
CARD 3:
I loved that pink check paper in the kit, so I wanted it to be the star of this card. I made the background using the SSS Mini Slimline Rectangle Dies. I attached the pink paper to the center and two strips of the denim looking paper to the top and the bottom. I attached this piece to a white cardstock base.
I painted this watercolor card from the Birthday Flowers set with Daniel Smith watercolors. I cut it out and attached it to the center of the card front with foam tape behind it. I stamped one of the butterflies from the Better With Mom stamp set and colored that in with colored pencils. I stamped a sentiment from the stamp set with black ink on a small stitched rectangle and attached that below the vase. I added the butterfly over the vase. I also used some sparkling clear sequins.
CARD 4:
I made this background with 2 more of the cute papers. This time I attached them to an A2 size piece of cardstock. Because the papers are 4x6, I used one in the center and cut two strips from the striped paper for the edges. I painted another one of the Birthday Flowers watercolor cards, this time with my new set of Karin Decobrush Markers. I have the set with 3 of the 7 different sets of 12 in it. I feel like I have enough colors to have fun, but I might want more of the sets for Mother's Day haha. I LOVE THESE MARKERS! I didn't realize how much I would love them. They are basically acrylic paint in a brush pen. And they blend together so well. I really had fun coloring some of these watercolor cards with them. Maybe you should ask for them for Mother's Day too! And BTW, they work best on watercolor paper (such as the Ranger Watercolor Paper these cards are printed on). I've used them on Neenah cardstock and it works, but the paper gets a little messy! I highly recommend the Designer Set of 36 like I got as with blending, you can get almost any color you need from these.
I embossed a sentiment from the Better With Mom stamp set with Pink Peony embossing powder on a SSS Sentiment Label Die (largest one). I cut the flowers out and attached them to the top front of the card. I then attached the sentiment with foam tape behind it. I added a stamped butterfly again. I colored the larger one with designs in the center and then used Nuvo Yellow Bird glitter drops over the yellow areas. I also used the yellow glitter drops over the small yellow flowers and some of the flower centers. I used Enchanting Pink glitter drops over the center of other flowers. I added one turquoise sequin and some sparkling clear sequins around the sentiment.
CARD 5:
This card is so outside of my comfort zone! I've admitted before that using alcohol inks is NOT my specialty haha. I have all the supplies, I just need to practice and watch some videos and figure them out. With three colors of alcohol inks in the kit, I was determined to use them on one of my cards! I started with two full size pieces of Yupo Paper so I could just cut off the portions that I liked. I used just yellow on one and cut out the background from that one. I used yellow mixed with just a couple drops of the pink on the other which gave me a nice bright orange color. I mixed in some gold alcohol ink drops on that one as well. I die-cut the "You Mean The Word To Me" die in the kit from the orange piece.
I stamped several of the images in the Better With Mom stamp set with MFT Natural Ink on white cardstock and colored them in with colored pencils. I also die-cut the Flower Bundle dies in the kit with the SSS Gold Matte paper in kit. I layered the stamped designs by cutting some individual leaves out of the leaves you can see in the first picture at the bottom. I added some of the gold leaves around the flowers as well. I used Yellow Bird glitter drops in the center of the yellow flowers. I used Ripened Pumpkin and Mustard Gold Nuvo Drops around the stamped images.
That's it for this "one stamp, five ways" post using the Limited Edition Mother's Day Kit called You Mean the World to Me. I hope you enjoyed these five cards which all use the stamp set called Better With Mom. I will be posting some more cards in the next couple days using the rest of the Suzy's Watercolor Cards in the kit. Thanks so much for visiting today! Suzy
