Today is the release of the monthly card kit from Simon Says Stamp. This April kit is called Life Is A Party. Here is an image of the kit:
I have a "one stamp, five ways" post using this Life Is A Party kit and primarily focusing on the stamp set which is also called Life Is A Party and is sold alone or with a set of matching dies. Here is an image of the stamp bundle:
And here are my five cards:
I love love love the Balloon Trio Wafer Dies that come with the kit (and are sold separately). I used a foam applicator to apply some ink to white cardstock for the balloons. I used three color combos of Pawsitively Saturated Inks: Trio 5: Cheeky and Blush, Trio 3: Lemonade and Sunbeam, and Trio 1: Seafoam and Surf. I used the lighter color over the entire area and the darker color just along the bottom edge. I die-cut three of the larger balloons from my colored cardstock. Note: Using a foam applicator gives you a softer, lighter color than using brushes in my experience. I die-cut some white pieces for the inside areas of each balloon. I attached foam tape to the backsides of the blue and just half of the yellow balloon.
This card is 5x7 so it would fit three of the large balloons. The patterned paper in the kit is 6" x 8" and is big enough to fit on this size card which worked great! This pad has the coolest designs for cards and is called LIfe's A Party by American Crafts. I cut a piece just a bit smaller and mounted it on black cardstock. I loved this white with black smudges design for the background of this card. I attached the 3 balloons with the pink one attached directly to the paper and the other two with foam tape behind them. I tied some Lawn Fawn cord into 3 small bows using 3 different colors. I glued a pice under the bottom of each balloon and then glued a bow over that area. I stamped the sentiment from the Life Is A Party stamp set with Intense Black Ink and then embossed over it with clear embossing powder. I read once on a Jennifer McQuire blog post that doing it this way would give better results than using black embossing powder. I found this to be true this week! I fussy cut around the sentiment since I didn't have the matching dies. I used foam tape behind it leaving an opening in the center and attached it to the bottom of the card. I pulled the three cords through the bottom. They hang over the bottom edge of the card, but I'll cut them off before using it.
I rubbed the Saltwater Taffy Distress Oxide Ink over the flat side of the Dimensional Stars embossing folder that is included in the kit. I sprayed a piece of Ranger Watercolor Paper with a Ranger Mini Mister and ran it through the die-cut machine 3 times. I mounted this piece on a teal cardstock base. I die-cut three of the Balloon Trio Dies medium balloons out of the same papers I created with inks for the last cards - 2 from the aqua and one from the pink. I then used my finger (yep) to apply the two colors of Ranger Stickles Paste in Venus and Galaxy over the top of each balloon in a very thick coat. It wasn't hard to do with my finger and it has the coolest star sequins in it! I let those dry overnight.
They were curled once they dried, so I used foam tape on the backside to flatten the. I attached all 3 to the card front. I stamped the Party stamp and the "life is a" stamp with Intense black ink (I used the smallest Sentiment Label die for that one). I embossed over the "Party stamp with clear embossing powder and cut it out. I also stamped three balloon strings with black ink and cut them out. I glued the strings below each balloon. I glued the two sentiments to the top of the balloons. I added a small bow using pink and white twine over the strings. I added some Nuvo Drops in Party Pink, Chalk Stick and Carribean Ocean around the balloons.
I made this slimline card by first die-cutting a piece of white cardstock with the largest die from the SSS Slimline Nested Rectangle Dies. I then embossed the words Party Today on the top using two colors of Ranger Embossing Glaze: Saltwater Taffy and Picked Raspberry. I applied embossing ink and then poured one color on half of the letters and the other color on the other half. I embossed the long string below the words using the Picked Raspberry Embossing Glaze. I put in on my misti in a straight line and then bent the edges upward. I then embossed all of the little banner pieces the same way with half of each color.
I inked the edges of the card front with Saltwater Taffy and then applied just a little to the inside of the card except below the letters. I rubbed the actual pad along the edges of the card. I then stamped the little confetti stamp all over the edges of the card with the same Saltwater Taffy Ink. I poured some of the Picked Raspberry Embossing Glaze over these and because the ink was still wet, the blaze stuck to the designs and part of the background which was a happy mistake! I added some Chalk Stick Nuvo Drops over the banner designs and around the background.
I used two of the Life's A Party patterned papers in the kit for this card. I cut the swirl design out of one of the papers. I cut the word paper to fit on the front of a card and then glued the design over it and trimmed off the edges. I attached that to a green card base. I stamped the two balloon stamps 3 times using Pawsitively Saturated Inks in Marine, Lucky, and Watermelon. I stamped the balloon strings below them with black ink and then outlined them with a black marker. I cut around them since I didn't have the matching dies. I then put a thick layer of Tonic Crystal Glaze over the top of each balloon.
I attached the 3 balloons over the background papers. I then embossed the sentiment on a SSS Stitched Square Die with Ranger Cracked Pistachio Embossing Glaze. I attached that to the bottom of the card and used some Sunlit Meadow Glitter Nuvo Drops over the green stripe on the paper.
I had fun making the background for this card. I used a piece of Ranger Watercolor Paper cut to fit on the front of a card. I stamped the 3 circle stamps and the confetti stamps with several colors of Pawsitively Saturated Inks over the front of this piece. I love that the inks are "reactive" meaning, when you spray them with water, the colors all move. I stamped just a few and then sprayed them working in small areas so the inks didn't get too dry before I sprayed them. I used Ranger Mini Misters to spray the water. I also splattered all 4 colors of inks I used over the piece when it was still wet to add to the messy look. I used the Trio 1 Inks, the Trio 2 Inks, the Trio 3 Inks, and the Trio 5 Inks (yellows, greens, corals, and aquas).
I stamped the banner stamps on white cardstock with lots of different colors of Pawsitively Saturated Inks. i cut around each since I didn't have the matching dies. I arranged them over the top of the card in three sections. I then glued Lawn Fawn yellow cord on the top of each. I stamped two of the sentiments on SSS Sentiment Labels stamped with Saturated Inks and attached them below the banners. I used some Jewel Nuvo Drops around the background and on some of the banners.
That's it! I hope you enjoyed this "one stamp, five ways" post using the SSS April 2022 Card Kit called Life Is A Party. I also used the Life Is A Party stamp set on all of the cards. Thanks for visiting and have a happy week! Suzy
