Today, SSS released a Limited Edition Joys of Spring card kit with two stamp sets in it. The first is a 6" x 8" stamp set called Joys of Spring and I did a "one stamp, five ways" blog post using this stamp and the entire kit on this blog post here. I also wanted to make a card using the cute Gnome Matter What 4" x 6" stamp set in the kit, so that is what this blog post is for. Here is an image of the kit:
And here is an image of the Gnome Matter What stamp set which is also sold with a set of matching dies. You can buy it as a bundle here:
And here is my slimline card using the 3 gnomes in the Gnome Matter What stamp set:
I made the background first which was a bit time-consuming because I was in "learning from mistakes" mode! I started by die-cutting a piece of white cardstock with the largest SSS Nested Slimline Rectangle die. I then cut a piece of scrap paper in the shape of a hill. I attached the top of it (negative space) to this piece of cardstock and I rubbed Distress Oxide Inks on it in Speckled Egg and Black Soot. I used the Mini-Domed Ink Blending Foam to apply the ink because it goes on much lighter with this tool then with brushes. Next, I attached the hill itself to the rectangle over the line for the ground and I applied some more Distress Oxide Ink in Stormy Sky and Tumbled Glass.
Next, I left the bottom hill scrap paper over the ground and I attached the SSS Raindrops stencil over half of the top right side of the card. I rubbed Hero Arts Unicorn white ink over the stencil for the raindrops. I turned the stencil over (after wiping off the ink) and placed it over the last raindrops so the pattern somewhat matched. I then rubbed raindrops on that half of the sky with the white ink. I didn't remember that white ink fades quite a bit when used over Oxide inks. Once that happened, I used a white Uniball gel pen over the raindrops. I didn't want them to be TOO white and opaque, so while the ink was still wet, I placed my finger over it to lighten it (I use this technique a lot when coloring flowers with colored pencils to lighten edges). I finally had white transparent raindrops, but there had to be a quicker way!
After that time consuming background, I stamped the three gnomes from the Gnome Matter What stamp set with MFT Natural Ink and I colored them in with colored pencils. I cut them out and attached them to the background. I stamped the sentiment over the background wherever I could fit it with Intense Black Ink. Lucky I was using my Misti, as black ink is hard to adhere to Oxide inks too, so it took me stamping it about 5 times which is why the letters look a little hazy! I then used Ranger Glossy Accents over the raindrops that still showed. They look so cool in real life! I think they might have been worth all the trouble they caused me! haha I also used Glossy Accents over the rain on the bottom of the gnomes and the raindrops in the stamps.
Thanks for visiting today. I hope you enjoyed this card using the Gnome Matter What stamp set as it is sold alone OR it is part of the Limited Edition Joys of Spring card kit! You can see my "one stamp, five ways" post using the kit and Joy of Spring 6" x 8" stamp set HERE. Suzy
