Today is the release of the Simon Says Stamp February 2022 Card Kit called Season of Sentiments. I have a "one stamp, five ways" post to share with you using the kit and focusing on the gorgeous floral stamp set called Orchid Rose Bouquet. Here is an image of the kit and the stamp:
Some of the items in the kit can be purchased alone if you just want those items, including the Orchid Rose Bouquet stamp, the Simply Thank You 3" x 4" stamp, the Miss You wafer die (which I apparently lost as I never saw this in my kit and therefore didn't use it!), and the Simple Stories Happy Hearts 6x8 paper pad.
And here are my 5 cards using the kit:
CARD 1:
I used Arches watercolor paper die-cut with the largest rectangle in the SSS Nested Slimline Rectangle Die set for this card. I then embossed the Orchid Rose Bouquet stamp set at and angle on both sides of this piece with white embossing powder. I like using large floral stamp sets this way where I just overlap the edges on each side of a slimline design - I usually make one side a larger image than the other so it balances it better. I just think it looks SO pretty just showing part of the larger image. I wanted to use a different color scheme than I had on the rest of my cards, so I went with yellow and red on this one and was happy to see that some orchids in this color! I pulled out my Daniel Smith watercolors for this one and painted it in. Having embossed edges when watercoloring makes it SO much easier!
After I painted it, I flicked a bunch of the dark red paint over it. I used a thinner paint brush and a thicker one so the dots would be different sizes. I embossed the sentiment from the stamp set (LOVE that beautiful script!) with Red Geranium embossing powder which matched perfectly! I used Rhubarb Crumble gloss Nuvo drops around the sentiment and also used VERY small drops of it around the flowers to look like bigger flicks of paint. I love doing that with Nuvo drops as you can just touch the paper with it without squeezing.
CARD 2:
I wanted to make one card without the flowers in the stamp set just focusing on the pretty papers in the kit. I loved the two flower papers, so I kind of combined them. The papers are from a 6"x8" pad by Simple Stories called Happy Hearts. I first cut the piece with lines on it and just flowers in one corner to be 5.25" x 4". I then cut out several flowers and leaves from the navy paper with the pink flowers on it. I combined all of the flowers to surround the edges of the first paper overlapping them. I used colored pencils to add shading to the flowers and also used a navy pencil to fill in the edges of the paper. I cut small pieces of the navy/floral paper to go under some of the cut out flowers in the corners so all 4 corners had similar looks.
I embossed the beautiful sentiment from the Orchid Rose Bouquet stamp set in the center of the pink flowers with Steel Navy embossing powder. I used the same navy pencil to color softly around the flowers surrounding the sentiment. I then used Enchanting Pink Nuvo Glitter Drops on the darker areas of the flowers because i couldn't resist giving them some shiny glitter! I used Emerald City Glitter Drops over some of the leaf areas. I used Midnight Blue glossy drops over some of the navy areas and also used drops of them around the sentiment in different sizes. I love that this card is created with two of the papers, but I do admit, I spent quite a bit of time on it to "pretty them up"!
CARD 3:
For this card, I again used the pretty papers in the kit for the background. When I saw this bright pink paper with white dots, I knew I had to use it, but I wanted it for a background. I thought of stamping the flowers on cardstock and cutting them out to place over this paper. But it would have been hard to cut around the small leaf stems. So then I decided to "try" stamping the flowers directly on this paper with Intense Black Ink. I wasn't sure if pencils would cover the paper or not since it was a bright color. Well, it worked and I love how it turned out.
If you don't use colored pencils, this card should show you why they are so great for coloring! And when you use them a lot, you get good at it and they aren't that time consuming! I love that you can get them to be opaque over dark cardstock and over papers like these. What I love even more is how the dots on the paper show through the colored flowers just slightly. I choose these colors as they were the only ones I could get to look good/cover the pink. I used a lot of my white Prismacolor pencil to blend the colors and lighten them to cover the paper. I used a white Uniball gel pen around the edges of each flower petal to make them stand out more against the pink. I stamped a sentiment from the Orchid Rose stamp set and also from the smaller stamp set in the kit called Simply Thank You in the corner with black ink. I love how these two stamp sets go together in the sentiments that are in them.
CARD 4:
I wanted to show the flowers from the stamp set colored with Copics. I decided to use a mini-slimline card size for this one. I stamped the floral bouquet on the edge of a white cardstock piece die-cut with the SSS Nested Mini Slimline Rectangle Dies. I used black ink as sometimes Copics bleed and it is hard to do no-line coloring with them! I colored in the flowers with my Copics trying to keep them light.
I used a gray Copic (C3) around the edges of the flowers to make it look like they are popping off the white background. I attached this piece to a fuchsia card base. I embossed the sentiment from the stamp set using Cactus Flower embossing powder. I added some sparkling clear sequins around the sentiment to finish the card. It's pretty much a one layer card though!
This stamp set was too pretty not to color as an art piece. It is a bit bigger than a card size, so the only way I could show the whole thing was to frame it. I guess you could make a really large card also! I stamped it on white cardstock with MFT Natural Ink and colored it in with colored pencils.
I wasn't sure if I liked it better shown alone like in the first picture or like this with "props" around it. I left these two photos darker as when I lighten them, it takes away from the actual colors of the pencil coloring.
This is just one more close up photo. I think this one will end up going to my mom as she is a fan of everything I make and she likes to put things like this on little easels in her laundry room. It's completely decorated with my art. And I love that! Everyone needs a fan club haha.
I just love these new SSS floral stamps illustrated by Emily Midgett. Last month she drew one called Beautiful Bouquet and this month she drew the one in the Season of Sentiments kit called Orchid Rose Bouquet. I did a "one stamp, five ways" post using the first one, Beautiful Bouquet on the Simon Says Stamp Blog Here over the holidays. Thanks so much for visiting today. I hope you enjoy this Season of Sentiments card kit as much as I obviously did! Suzy
The big floral you colored - I had to come here to figure out how you colored it. I was shocked that you colored it with pencils. It had to take you forever. It is absolutely gorgeous.
