In mid-December, SSS had a release called To The Moon. Due to the busy time of year, we didn't have a blog hop or much hoopla around this release. Today, they have another release called "And Back Again" that is also full of Valentine's Day products as well as other winter items. On the 18th and 19th, we will be having a 2 day blog hop showing off items from BOTH of these releases.
Today I wanted to show you my newest set of watercolor cards called Suzy's Snowflake Season. Here is an image:
I drew these a few months ago when cold weather was just being anticipated. Now several states are having crazy amounts of snow and these are coming out at the perfect time! I left sentiments off most so you could add your own as I know that is how I prefer doing it. Especially with these two releases as there are lots of winter sentiments that work well with them. I will be sharing 3 colored today on this post and then 3 more on the blog hop post on the 18th. Here are my first 3:
I only used colored pencils on this card. I usually paint them, but I ended up not using watercolors on any of the 3 I am posting today. I outlined the snowflakes and colored over the black letters with the pencils. I find the more waxy pencils to be better at covering things (being more opaque) such as Prismacolor and Caran d'ache Luminance (very pricey, but work well for coloring on colored cardstock). I used a white Uniball over the letters really just to show they were colored as the black still shows through a bit.
I framed the piece with a die-cut frame from the MFT A2 Frame Dies - you will notice I used this frame on almost all 6 of my cards this time. They just fit perfectly around it. I used the SSS Holographic Rainbow paper for the frame. I die-cut it from the portion of the paper that has . I added a few die-cut snowflakes I had in my stash and a couple embossed ones as well. I have a container with so many snowflakes i have made over the years and love finding a way to use them. But ask me where I got them and I'll say no idea! I also added some SSS sparkling clear sequins and snowflake sequins.
I kept this one very basic and only used silver. I colored the snowflakes in with a silver Uniball gel pen. Then I decided I wanted them to be more glittery, so I applied Silver Moondust Nuvo Glitter Drops over the pen. They are very pretty in real life. I die-cut a frame using SSS Silver Glitter Cardstock and the same MFT A2 Frame dies.
I die-cut a sentiment using the SSS Reverse Sun and Moon Sentiment STrips from the To The Moon release. I thought this sentient was perfect for the snowflake theme of the card and the silver/white color scheme I had used. I used the Honeybee Sentiment Strips dies. Although I learned this when I first starting doing art work, i still always go back to the Gallon, Quart, Pint color theory. I use a lot of one color (white), some of another color (silver), and just a little of the last color (black). I added some Black Board Nuvo Drops around the sentiment and also some sparkling clear sequins.
For this one, I again didn't paint it! The other 3 I will share tomorrow are all painted, but for some reason these 3 are not! I used pencils again for this one leaving the background white. i die-cut the bottom using the SSS Slimline Borders and Edges dies - I thought this die looked a little like the edges of snowflakes. I cut the bottom off the card and then used Rose Gold glitter cardstock under the edge. I attached both to a blue card base.
I added some of the new Frosty Sequin Mix from the "And Back Again" release. I also added some sparkling clear sequins. I used Berry Blue Nuvo Drops and Pink Champagne Nuvo drops around the snowflakes.
There are so many cute Valentine's Day products in this new "And Back Again" release. They all coordinate really well with the "To The Moon" release products. I have posted several Valentine cards using that release and I'll be making more in the next week or two using both releases together. I'll be back in 24 hours (January 19th at 9:00 pm pst) for day 1 of the 2 day blog hop. Thanks so much for visiting! suzy
