I think it is a widely known fact if you have ever visited my blog before that I love to color. I don't often use flat stamps or stencils because I think of them as something you use ink on. I do enjoy that approach, but when I'm in the mood to color, I turn to outline stamps. In the To The Moon release by Simon Says Stamp, they came out with this beautiful floral stencil called Peonies and Leaves. I really wanted to use it, but being in the mood to color I knew I had to try a different approach!. Here is an image of the stencil (which is bigger than a card front):
I used Pixie Spray on the backside of the stencil. If you haven't used it before, please order some! It is a removable spray that attached the stencil to your paper and holds all those little areas down while you work with it. Then when you remove it, it leaves no residue. You just wash your stencil with hot water and soap and it removes the adhesive. Here is my card:
I attached the stencil to a piece of white cardstock cut into the side of a slim-line card (8.5" x 3.5"). I offset it so the flowers and leaves ended with some white space on the right side. With the great adhesive Pixie Spray I mentioned above, I was able to outline inside all of the little areas with a fine tip black marker. I use the .05 Micron as they are my favorite and have a very fine tip. If I made a mistake, I just drew more than one line so it looked doodled. I drew lines on the inside and the outside of all of the stencil parts.
After the lines were drawn, I colored inside them with colored pencils. I used one shade of purplish pink and lightened it as I moved up the card. I used a green for the leaves and also lightened the color as I moved up. I then went over the colors with my Copics. I just liked the look of the markers more for some reason. So this is a combo of both! But either would do the job. Remember, I love to color. So layers don't bother me! I die-cut this piece with the SSS Slimline Nested Rectangle Die and mounted it on a matching cardstock.
I used a new stamp set also from the To The Moon release called CZ Love Garden for the sentiment. I wasn't sure which one would look the best on the card, so I embossed a few of them (on the left) using Ranger Cactus Flower embossing powder which is the same color as the cardstock! I die-cut the words out with the matching dies. I used the "thanks" as I felt it fit the card best. I added a smaller sub-sentiment using the new Best Friends Sentiment Strips. I added some Violet Galaxy Nuvo drops around the flowers which also matched really well. I also added Yellow Bird Glitter Drops on the yellow flowers.
Now I want to pull out all of my stencils to do this with them, but this Peonies and Leaves stencil might be my favorite and I'll have to use it again! It is just fun mindless coloring you can do while you watch your favorite show. I've been watching Ted Lasso, but unfortunately we finished the 2 seasons, so now I need to find a new one to mindlessly color to! Thanks for visiting today and MERRY MERRY MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL OF YOU! It's such a hard time of the year for so many. My daughter has covid, so she is locked in her room for the holiday and we are all staying away from her. Makes it difficult to enjoy the season with Covid in the house, but I'm grateful for all of our blessings, so no complaining over here. I know many people have more challenging things going on! I'll be back tomorrow on Christmas Eve with my last Christmas card of the season! xoxo suzy
