Today is the Simon Says Stamp Peace on Earth release blog hop. This is a one day hop this time, so there are a few more stops to hop to today! My post today will show you the new set of Suzy's Watercolor Cards called Holiday Tags. Here is an image of the set:
This set is a little different than all my other watercolor card sets. I drew the designs horizontally for the first time and I included two designs on each 4.25" x 5.5" card. They are still printed on Ranger Watercolor Paper on the smooth side so they can be colored with ANY coloring medium (or all as I do haha). These were designed to work hand in hand with the SSS Large Tag Dies which is an older set that has solid metal tags x 2. I drew the tag lines to be just a little bigger than the die lines so you can easily place them inside the lines to die-cut. I made the lines a lighter opacity and thinner so they can easily be cut out as well. The tag die has a hole in the top center or you can use a punch to make the holes. This set of 12 tags x 2 each will give you 24 gift tags for Christmas and hopefully you won't need more than that. The fun part is YOU get to color them! Or you could leave them blank for people that enjoy coloring so they can do it themselves!
I posted half of the tags colored yesterday on this blog post. I'll show some group photos of all of the tags now, but if you want details on how I made the other six they are on yesterday's blog post. Here is an image of all 12 colored:
And here are images of six at a time so you can get a better look:
Now I'll give you details on how I colored and made 6 of them into tags.
I show you the watercolor card at the top with the two tags below them so you can get an image of what I am doing. The die I used is at the top right side of the photo (but again, you can easily cut them out instead because of the cutting lines on each). I painted these with watercolors, but then used colored pencils over them so I don't think there is much watercolor left haha.
I only put greetings on 3 of the 12 designs so you can add your own to most with all of the wonderful stamps and pre-printed greetings in this release! This is one of the ones I put on the card, so nothing added here. I added decorative circles to the top of each tag using a die I had from another tag set (not even sure which one!). Like I said, I painted these with Daniel Smith watercolors first. That gives them a base coat. Then I add shading and details with pencils since they are my go to coloring method. There are small details on these, so pencils work really well. I used a gray pencil to add shading to all of the white areas. I used a white Uniball to add details and Nuvo drops in Golden Sunset and Blushing Red around the image.
I made these ornaments jewel colors since so many of these are standard Christmas colors. Again, I watercolored first and then used pencils to add shading and details. I used a white Prismacolor pencil over the center of each ornament so it looked really light. I used a silver Uniball gel pen on all of them as well. I used the new Snowflake Edges stamp set for the sentiment with Intense Black Ink. Some of them fit on these tags perfectly! I used Jewel Nuvo Drops around the ornaments to add some more detail. I just LOVE those Jewel colors and how transparent they are. My Nuvo Drops get used so much they were definitely worth the price I paid for all of them!
Again, I used watercolors on both of these and then pencils to add details and shading. I don't think I used pencils at all on the tree one though.
I painted this with Daniel Smith Watercolors and then used my colored pencils to add shading and details. I used a gray pencil to add shading to all of the white areas. I then used Glossy White Nuvo drops over the white on Santa's clothing. I used White Blizzard glitter drops over the snow on the tree and the ground. I used Chalk Stick white drops around the image. I used a preprinted sentiment strip from the Reverse From Me sentiment strip set in this release.
I painted this with watercolors and didn't use any pencils on it - whoopee. Took some self restraint I must admit! I did use Nuvo Jewel drops over all of the trees though in all of the beautiful Jewel colors (because of course I have them all since I'm addicted!). I used a sentiment from the preprinted sentiment strips called Love, Peace, Joy. I used a silver Uniball gel pen on the top of the tree and the tree trunks. I used metallic silver Nuvo drops around the trees.
I painted both of these again with Daniel Smith watercolors and then used colored pencils to shade and lots of glitter nuvo drops on Mr. bear! I made the hole on the Mrs. Clause one fit right in the center of the bow.
I painted the background with a light blue wash. I used pencils for the sweater and again used a gray pencil for shading on the bear. I used a silver glitter pen on the snowflakes and then Chalk Stick Nuvo drops on the edges. I used Silver Moondust Nuvo Drops in the center of each. I used Chalk Stick Nuvo drops around the card to look like snow. I used LOTS of glitter drops on the bears sweater and gift. The sentiment is from the Winter Birds stamp set.
I painted this one with watercolors and used pencils to shade again. I stamped a sentiment from the XL Christmas Greetings stamp set. I attached it on my Misti where I wanted the center of it in a straight line. Then I curved the two edges down so it slopped. I used Chalk Stick Nuvo drops around the image.
Keep in mind that you probably have LOTS of Christmas stamp sets with sentiments on them you can add to these cards. Or, you can just write To and From on the back like I always do for gifts. I save my tags each year and use them over and over since i am always giving gifts to the same people. I'm not wasting my tags after I hand color them all! I hope you enjoy this set and you can see all of the images and directions for the other six HERE.
