I have a "one stamp, five ways" post to share with you using my favorite new set from the SSS Peace On Earth Release. Here is an image of my 5 cards:
What was your favorite product from the new release? I always love stamp sets that allow me to color images and birds are my favorite thing (well, besides dogs), so this Winter Bird stamp set and matching set of dies was right up my alley and I couldn't wait to use it. Here is an image of the stamp and die bundle which you can buy together:
I've also used a few other products from the Peace On Earth release, but I focused primarily on the stamp set. I have to admit up front that the red cardinal was my favorite and he appeared on 3 of my cards! I feel like some of my cards are a little more similar to each other than I usually do in these posts. I like to show you as many ways as possible to use a set, but it was so gorgeous to use them just the way they were meant to be used (thus I didn't think outside the box too much!).
Before I make any cards, I stamp all of the images (and doubles of accessory type images) with MFT Natural Ink and Black Ink on white cardstock and I always color the light ink with pencils and the black ink ones with Copics. Then I stamp the images again on watercolor paper with black ink and watercolor paint them. So when I start making the 5 cards, I have a set of images using each of the 3 coloring methods. I ended up with extra images when I was all done which is always a risk of this method!
CARD 1:
My first card is a mini slimline card measuring 3.5" x 6.5". I used the SSS Mini Slimline Rectangle Die with white cardstock for the card front. I attached it to a red card base. I die-cut a circle using the SSS Thin Circle Frame Dies from their Silver Holographic Paper. I attached that to the rectangle cutting off the bottom of the circle. Now my background was ready to decorate!
I stamped the images from the Winter Birds stamp set on white cardstock with MFT Natural Ink. I colored them in with colored pencils. I used the matching Winter Bird Dies - I was really happy I had these this time as those branches would have been hard to fussy cut! I attached one branch to each side of the card which required me to trim off part of the one on the left. I positioned the larger one over the circle so it was framed. I then added the red Cardinal over the branch in the center of the circle. I used Black Board Nuvo Drops for the birds eye so it stood out against the black pencil. I used foam tape behind the bird. I embossed the sentiment using Carnation Red embossing powder and die-cut that out as well (oh how I love when there are dies for sentiments in a set!). I used foam tape behind that as well. I applied Tonic Crystal Glaze to all of the berries so they would shine. I used Diamond Stickles over all of the snow. Hint: When I am coloring snow, I use a gray pencil to shade it and then I used a white Uniball gel pen over it. That makes the Stickles pop more because there is a layer of white underneath.
CARD 2:
This is the only card that isn't in the same colors. I used the new Laurel Leaves Background Plate with the new Matte Gold Mirror Cardstock for the card base. I attached it to a white card base. I only glued down the outside frame so all of the leaves would be free floating and i could tuck things under them. I stamped the images from the Winter Birds stamp set on white cardstock with MFT Natural Ink again and colored them in with pencils. I actually had these images left from the first card as each time I use a different coloring method, I stamp all of the images and then I have extra for multiple cards. These were my last of my no-line coloring images and they ended up being my favorites. I think the pencils really look good on birds as they look like feathers with the texture pencils create.
I cut the stems off three of the branches I had colored and I attached them by tucking them under the gold leaves in different spots. I embossed the sentiment from the stamp set with Antique Gold embossing powder and die-cut it out with the matching dies. I attached that to the bottom of the card with foam tape behind it. I then tucked a couple of green leaves underneath the edges so there was some green on the bottom of the card as well. I attached the 3 birds around the card close to the three branches. I used Gold Stickles around the card.
CARD 3:
I tried something new on this card at least haha. I die-cut a piece of white cardstock with the largest die in the SSS Slimline Rectangle Die set. I then stamped the two branches on it - one on each side using black ink. I colored the branches in with Copics and then also colored the sky with Copics (mixed several light blues so it wasn't a solid color). I attached this piece to a red card base. My plan was to add dimensional items over this background so the leaves were layered.
I stamped all of the images from the stamp set on white cardstock with Intense Black Ink and colored them all in with Copics. I die-cut them out with the matching dies. I then layered the two branches over the other two branches using the opposite design for each. I used foam tape behind the one on top so you could see the other one under it looking dimensional.
I attached the two birds over the top branch using foam tape. I used Tonic Crystal Glaze over the berries and Frosted Lace Stickles over all of the snow. I embossed the sentiment using Carnation Red embossing powder again and attached that to the top center of the card. I used Chalk Stick white Nuvo drops around the background. Then I used the Frosted Lace Stickles in the center of each to look like glistening snow. I also added some of the Frosted Lace Stickles over the leaves so they glittered as well. I used Black Board Nuvo drops over the bird's eyes.
CARD 4:
I decided to make one of my cards without any of the birds to show the versatility of this stamp set. I die-cut a circle out of a card size piece of white cardstock using the SSS Thin Circle Frame dies. I then attached that piece over some red patterned paper I had in my stash (no idea what 6x6" pad it was part of!). I stamped all of the images for this card and the next with Intense Black Ink on mixed media paper and I painted them with my Daniel Smith watercolors. I used colored pencils a little for shading, but tried to hold back since these are my watercolored ones and I like to show them using all 3 coloring methods. I die-cut a bunch of the leaves and berries out using the matching dies. I also die-cut a Delicate Leafy Die (from the Peace on Earth release) out of the Matte Gold Mirror cardstock. You can see what this die looks like as I positioned one in my image to the right of the card. I cut all of the leaves off it to use on my card.
I arranged the different leaves and berries from the stamp set around the circle forming a wreath. I ended up using some of my extra Copic colored ones as well. I tucked in parts of the little gold tree between the leaves. I die-cut the new Large Joy Die from white and Matte Gold Mirror paper and layered them. I attached the word to the center of the wreath. I embossed the sentiment from the stamp set with Carnation Red embossing powder again and die-cut it out. I attached that to the bottom of the card. I used different Glitter Stickles and Glitter Nuvo drops around the wreath. I used Ruby Slipper Nuvo Glitter drops over the berries.
CARD 5:
This is my third card using the Red Carnation bird, so I didn't really show off some of the other birds in the set as much! But because I was making Christmas cards, he just worked with all my designs due to his red color! The images on this card are leftover from my watercolored ones stamped with black ink from the last card. I started by using the Lawn Fawn Just Double Stitching Rectangle Die on the front of a piece of card size white cardstock. I love how this die gives such a pretty border, but allows you to keep your background full size. I then die-cut several small snowflakes using the new Matte Silver Mirror cardstock. I also die-cut some out of white cardstock. I used two die sets for the snowflakes from the new release: CZ Merry And Bright die and the Harmony Snowflake Dies. I arranged several snowflakes around the background.
Next I attached the two branches on the front of the card overlapping some of the snowflakes. I made the smaller branch come out of the larger branch so it looked like it was part of it and extended it across the entire card front. I then placed the red bird over the branches covering where the one ends. I used Ranger Diamond Glitter Stickles over all of the snow (after coloring it with a white Uniball so the glitter showed more). I'm quite attached to my Nuvo drops, but at Christmas I always bring out my Stickles to use for snow as they are more glittery and really look good over white. They take longer to dry though which is the downfall. I rubbed some over the leaves as well for extra shimmer. I stamped the sentiment with black ink and die-cut it out with the matching dies. I attached that to the top of the card and used some Chalk Stick Nuvo drops around the card front. I also used black again on the bird's eye.
Isn't this just the most beautiful stamp set ever? I was able to make several Christmas cards and I still have images left over to use on other cards. I love birds so much that I drew a Winter Bird Watercolor Card set a couple years ago that is very much like this Winter Birds stamp set so if you like it, check those out as well. I have a blog post showing them all colored here. I hope you enjoyed the Peace On Earth Release and were able to pick up some goodies for yourselves! Thanks for your visit and for your support of my favorite hobby! Suzy
