I have TWO blog posts up today because there are TWO special STAMPtember collaboration stamp sets today - La-La Land Crafts and Kitchen Sink Stamps. You can see my Kitchen Sink blog post HERE. I saw the La-La Land Crafts stamp set and knew I would be using this one as it is right up my style alley! I love hippos. I don't know why as they aren't cute in real life and I think they kill humans! But when I go to the San Diego Zoo, I always spend the most time watching the baby hippos with their moms. A close second is the apes and chimpanzees. Now I want to go to the Zoo! The stamp set is called Hippo Holidays and is sold alone or is sold with a bundle with a set of dies. Here is an image of the set:
And here is my slim-line card. I used Copics to color these images and I have to admit it was so much quicker than when I color with pencils. I actually finished this card in a little over an hour which is unheard of for me! Hopefully that isn't obvious haha.
I stamped the three hippos with Intense Black Ink on white cardstock. I cut a piece of cardstock that was the size of a slim-line card (8.5 x 3.5"). I stamped the 3 hippos as well as the sentiment on this piece. I then colored them in with Copic Markers. I used Warm Grays for the hippos. Like I said, the coloring was really fast compared to my usual colored pencils! I also colored a ground below them with the same color of grey.
Next, I die-cut this piece down with a rectangle from the Simon Says Stamp Slim-Line Nested Rectangle Dies. I also cut out a frame using the Simon Says Stamp Slimline Scallop Frame Dies. I die-cut the frame out of dark red cardstock. It ended up having a little bit of discoloring on it, so I colored over the edges with Copic markers in the same reds as I had used on my card. I layered the frames on a warm gray cardstock card base that matched the card.
I used white Chalk Stick Nuvo Drops around the background (not sure why!). I used a Silver Uniball gel pen on the top of the ornament. I used a white Uniball gel pen on the hippos cheeks and teeth because I wanted to make sure the hippos showed good dental hygiene!
Isn't this Hippo Holiday stamp set so cute? I made a one layer card again because I don't have the matching dies, but you can buy the bundle here. Remember that these sets are only until supplies are gone and are not restocked, so if you are interested, buy them quickly. Thanks so much for visiting!
