Today is the first day of the 2 day blog hop celebrating the Simon Says Stamp Make Magic release. I hope this hop is inspiring you to Make Some Magic and that you love this new release as much as I do! Yesterday I posted 3 cards using my newest set of Suzy's Watercolor Cards called Tropical Foliage. Here is an image of the set of 12 cards:
And here are images of the 3 cards that I colored and here is a link to my post telling how I colored them:
I'll have the other 3 watercolor cards from this set colored on my blog in the next few days so you can see all of them made into cards! And now for today's post! I have a "one stamp, five ways" post to share with you using the brand new Hibiscus Blooms stamp set. I'm sure you have seen it, but if not, here is an image:
You can buy just the Hibiscus Blooms stamp set or also buy the set of matching dies OR buy them as a bundle (all are available at this time). And now I will share my five cards with you using this set!
CARD 1:
This card is a mini-slimline card so it is 6.25" x 3.25". Sometimes this size card is just the perfect solution to some card designs! I die-cut an MFT Rounded Stitched rectangle die from the center of a piece of white cardstock. I die-cut the outside edges of this piece with the SSS Mini Slimline Rectangle dies. I found a piece of green paper in my stash that I had made with my Gel Press and Distress Oxide Inks (a watercolored scrap piece would work great for this as well!). I attached the white cardstock with the green piece behind the opening and then over a Lawn Fawn Guava cardstock card base (my fav color of cardstock ever!).
I stamped all of the images in the Hibiscus Blooms stamp set on white cardstock with MFT Natural Ink. I colored them in with colored pencils. I love how pretty these blooms are and they were so fun to color! Hawaii is my favorite place to go in the world, so they made me feel like I was actually there this year haha. I liked using two colors for each flower since they are often 2 colors in real life. I die-cut them all out with the matching dies and arranged them over the green opening. I used foam tape behind some of the blooms on the top of the card so they were more dimensional. I stamped the sentiment from the stamp set on the bottom of the card with SSS Intense Black Ink and then I added some sparkling clear sequins around the flowers.
CARD 2:
This card is a full slimline, so it is around 8.25" x 3.25". I used the SSS Slimline Rectangle Die to die-cut a piece of Arches watercolor paper. Using this die gives you a border around it to show the card base color which is always my preference as it frames the image. I embossed the largest floral group from the Hibiscus Blooms stamp set with white embossing powder on both corners of the Arches paper. I have to remind myself to let stamps hang over the edges to get interesting layouts like this one. I loved how the group of flowers looked going both directions on this paper and you can't tell I only used one stamp!
I painted the flowers in with my Karin Brushmarkers because as I say on every single blog post I am in love with them - best investment I have ever made! I love how intense the colors are and how they blend together on a wet background. They are simply magic! I flicked some of the colors over the background as well. I embossed the sentiment from the stamp set with Leaf Green embossing powder in the center of the card and also used a cardstock card base in the same color to frame the painted portion. I added some sparkling clear sequins here and there.
CARD 3:
I used a scalloped edge die for this frame and because I cut it out years ago and found it in my stash, I'm not even sure what I used! I did see the Lawn Fawn Scalloped Border Rectangle dies though and they are the same, but I don't think they have the dots in them. I die-cut an oval from the center of this green dotted paper. Again, I have things like this paper in my stash and I just pull it out when I find a card that it will work on and this one worked very well! I attached it to a white card base for the background of my card.
I stamped the cluster of flowers from the stamp set on white cardstock with MFT Natural Ink and colored them in with colored pencils again. I die-cut it out using the matching dies. I tucked the stem under the oval and then used foam tape behind most of the flowers and the tape. I used a SSS Sentiment Label die to stamp the sentiment on using black ink and I tucked it under the flowers and cut it off on the edge of the card. I added some sparkling clear sequins around the sentiment.
CARD 4:
This is a very clean and simple card for me and it wasn't easy to keep it that way! I stamped the large floral grouping on white cardstock with Intense Black ink. I colored the flowers in with Copics - yes Copics! I do occasionally dive into my copic marker stash! I then used the Lawn Fawn just stitching rectangle die around the edge of the card.
I stamped the sentiment from the stamp set on the right side of the card with Intense Black Ink. I wanted to leave it at this, but I had to add some Cloud 9 Dream Drops (look like pearls) around the sentiment to feel like the card was finished!
CARD 5:
This card was really fun to make and I really like it because it is so colorful! I started with a rectangle of Arches watercolor paper using the SSS Slimline Rectangle die again (largest die in the set leaves you with a border to frame it with your card base). I then used my favorite ever Ranger Embossing Powder set of Brights (see the containers in my photo above) - it has four little containers of bright tropical colors in it and I use them all the time and love them. Have you noticed that you NEVER use up a full bottle of embossing powder? These little containers are just the right size and maybe someday I'll actually use all of the pink one! I embossed several of the individual images from the stamp set over the Arches paper with the four colors of embossing powder arranging them in a random way like a puzzle. It was really fun to do and they fit together easily since there were lots of stamps to pick from!
After they were all embossed, I used my Karin Brushmarkers to paint them in. Luckily they are just as bright as the embossing powders, so they worked great keeping up with those bold outlines! Could you get a card that looks more tropical than this one??? I used the SSS Sentiment label dies for the two sentiments from the stamp set. I embossed one in white and the other with black ink. I layered them on the bottom of the card and aded some sparking clear sequins.
