Today is the first day of a two day blog hop celebration of the newest Simon Says Stamp release called RAINBOWS. This release is full of fun summer products and lots of happy rainbow products. I have a new set of "Suzy's Watercolor Cards" in the release called Sun and Sea Watercolor Cards. Here is an image:
There are six designs with two prints of each design. They are printed on Ranger Watercolor Paper. I'll show you some of them colored and then give you some tips and techniques I use when coloring them.
I went to the beach today to take a walk and sea glass hunt. The little items around this card in the photo are things I found today! I got hit by a wave though and got wet all the way up to my hair! I used a rectangle die to decrease the size of this watercolor card and to be able to mat it with a standard size card base. I usually paint my watercolor cards with Karin Brushmarkers as I love how they work on the Ranger Watercolor Paper and the intensity of their colors. They are just really fun to use! I also used Shimmer Powders for this one for the background mixing Atlantis Burst and Blue Blitz. I love the shimmery looks they give!
After I painted the background I used the tip of my paintbrush to add dots of the blues as I didn't want to flick my brush and get blue on the creatures. I also added some white acrylic paint drops with a small tip by dipping it in the paint and then onto the background. I guess you would call these mock flicks! I used a white Uniball to add some details and I used Nuvo Glitter drops on many of the sea creatures. I stamped a sentiment from the Seas and Greetings stamp set by stamping it on a white banner with black ink. I used foam tape beneath it so it would stand out more. I attached my watercolor card to a white card base.
I also painted this card with my Karin Brushmarkers. I used a light blue one for the background with lots of water. When I use these brushmarkers, I either touch a wet paint brush to the tip of the marker to pick up color or I apply water to the area I want to paint and then I apply the marker directly to the edge of the area so the paint moves outward. It is very easy to mix colors like I did on the flowers. For the pineapple, once it was dry, I went back in with a brown marker and added shading without any water. It it is too dark, then just dab it with a paper towel to remove some of the color. Keep in mind that you can use ANY coloring medium on these cards - Copics, pencils, watercolors, etc... The Ranger papers works great with all coloring mediums and is pure white which I love. They are printed on the flat side so there is no texture to deal with.
After it was all dry, I go back in with the markers to add some more details and shading and don't use water. I also used a white Uniball to add the stems of the flowers and the flower centers. I used a white colored pencil on the edges of the leaves on the pineapple to add shading. I used Chalk Stick Nuvo Drops and Iceberg Blue Jewell drops on the background. I cut the piece smaller and matted it on a bright pink card base so the colors would pop. I stamped the sentiment from the new Tropical Silhouettes stamp set with black ink. That sentiment fit so perfect on this card like it was made for it!
I again pained this one with my Karin Brushmarkers. They have a perfect color for the sand and you can add nice little dots on the sand with the tip of the marker. I don't know who invented these markers, but they should are fun to use.
This time I used the new Seas and Greetings stamp set for the sentiment again and I love that they have matching dies to cut it out! I used SSS Steel Navy embossing powder. I attached it to the bottom of the card. All of these new summer/beach themed stamp sets have the perfect sentiments for these cards! I attached this one to a red card base.
I also posted a card yesterday on THIS BLOG POST using some of the new products. Here it is:
This one uses a combination of the new Repeating Rainbows cling stamp and the CZ You Are Loved stamp set. There are so many other products in the new release I can't wait to play with! I will definitely be doing a "one stamp, five ways" post this week with the new Beach Beauties set as I am a total beach girl and this one is just the best!

Your watercoloring is beautiful...I'm thinking I may have to save up to buy some Karin Watercolor Pens. Loved your beach story about getting "wet to the hair"....reminded me of when I also was walking the beach, got wet to the hair...was in the 60's and trust me, a beehive hairdo is NOT waterproof!
