Today I have a "one stamp, three coloring methods" post to share with you. One of the new products in the Simon Says Stamp Born To Sparkle release was a new floral cling stamp called "Magnolia Background Stamp". I am a big fan of flowers AND I have Magnolia trees all over my yard, so this one was special to me! I wanted to try coloring it in all three of my favorite ways - using colored pencils, Copic markers, and Karin Brushmarkers. Here is am image of the cling stamp:
Here is an image showing them colored with all 3 coloring mediums.I used antique gold embossing powder for the Karin Brushmarkers, MFT Natural Ink for no-line coloring with the colored pencils one, and black ink for the Copic colored one.
And now I'll show you all 3 individually before I made a card with them and then after I made them into a finished card:
I stamped this one with MFT Natural Ink on white cardstock. I colored it in with colored pencils using just warm greys for the flowers. I used a Copic Black Marker for the background. Since my flowers are white on my trees, I wanted these to be white. I did notice on google, they also come in pink though! I used glitter Nuvo Drops in the flower centers. I used some Nuvo Dream drops (pearlescent drops) around the greeting,. For the greeting I used black embossing powder for the large Welcome and just black ink for the "you are always" and both were die cut. I used the SSS CZ Welcoming Stamp Set and Matching Dies.
Like I said above, I stamped this one with Intense Black Ink before coloring it with Copic Markers. I wasn't crazy about how the black ink looks. Maybe it's just my eye, but I don't like thick black outlines on stamps. That's why sometimes I'll stamp them with a light ink and then draw my own outlines with a really fine tip pen. The black is too stark around the flowers for me. I added some yellow to the inside of the flowers on this one. I used one of the new Encouraging Words sentiment strips from the Born to Sparkle release. I used the black copic around the edges. I added some Black Board Nuvo Drops and Chalk Stick Nuvo drops around the sentiment. I also added Nuvo Drops around the centers of the flowers.
I started this one by embossing it with Antique Gold Embossing Powder on Arches watercolor paper. I then painted it in with Karin Brushmarkers. As usual with these posts, these watercolor markers always end up being my favorite of the 3! I love that you can mix multiple colors in each area. I used 3 greens on each area of the leaf areas after slightly wetting it (pens directly to the wet paper). The colors looks so pretty. I used Metallic Copper Penny Nuvo Drops in the centers of the flowers. I added a sentiment from the new Reverse Encouraging Words sentiment strips. I added some Mustard Gold Nuvo Drops and some Cloud 9 Dream drops around the sentiment.
I'm always so curious as to which is your favorite of my 3 coloring methods on this Magnolia Cling Stamp. I definitely prefer the Karin Brushmarkers on this one. Next, the pencils and last the Copics - but I think that is because I don't like the black outlines on that one. It's Monday today, so I hope you all have a great week. Thanks as always for visiting my blog! Suzy
Thank you for going the extra mile and coloring the stamp three times. The pencil coloring is my favorite because I like the contrast of the delicate flowers and strong leaves. I am a huge fan of flowers but have been on the fence about this stamp because it really does not look appealing on its own. You have helped me make up my mind, so I'm off to purchase it. Blessings...
