I haven't done a "one stamp, three coloring methods" post in a while as they are quite time consuming. But today I have one to share with you using the new Party Balloons stamp set by Simon Says Stamp. This one was released in their last release called Born to Sparkle. Here is an image of the stamp:
This is a cling stamp, but it is bigger than their usually background stamps - it is 6" x 7.75". The size makes it perfect for all card sizes including slimline cards. I couldn't wait to color this one with all those balloons on it! I used my usual colored pencils, Copics, and Karin Brushmarkers (watercolors). Here are the 3 images I colored together:
Here are the three backgrounds made into cards with details about each:
1. COLORED PENCILS:
I always use my no-line stamping approach with pencils because they are so soft and they allow me to "outline" my images making them seem finished without black lines. I stamped these with MFT Natural Ink and colored them with a variety of colored pencils - Caran d'Ache Pablo and Luminance, Prismacolor, and Faber Castelle Polychromos. I added white lines to the balloons with a white Uniball gel pen. I added black strings with a fine tip black marker. I framed the image with the MFT A2 Rectangle Frames in yellow cardstock. I used the SSS "Happy Birthday Brush Script" die for the sentiment. I also added a small preprinted sentiment strip from the CZ Reverse Birthday set. I used Chalk Stick Nuvo drops around the sentiment and glitter Nuvo Drops on the confetti.
2. COPICS
I stamped the Party Balloons on white cardstock with Intense Black Ink. I used Copics to color them in. I framed them with a Hello Bluebird slimline frame in blue. I added a small balloon set from the SSS Birthday Numbers stamp set over a preprinted sentiment. I think that sentiment came from one of the SSS monthly card kits and isn't sold alone. I used Tonic Nuvo Glaze over the small balloons. I also added Chalk Stick Nuvo drops around all the balloons.
I like to emboss images when I am using my Karin Brushmarkers as the colors tend to "leak" if you go near them again with water. They call this reactive. This can be a good thing or a bad thing in watercoloring! I stamped the Party Balloons on Arches watercolor paper with Ranger White Embossing Powder. I used the Karin Brushmarkers to color each balloon. Any watercolors would work great! I used the SSS CZ Happy Birthday die for the sentiment. I used some sparkling clear sequins around it. I also added some Chalk White Nuvo Drops.
Here are the three finished cards together:
I hate that every time I do one of these posts, the Karin Brushmarkers are my favorite of the finished cards. I guess I just love their intensity. But Copics have won for me before too. And my beloved colored pencils have never been my favorite! Which do you prefer? I love that this Party Balloons cling stamp works so well ion both standard size cards and slimline cards! Have a great day and thanks so much for visiting! Suzy
