Tonight is the night before ... Easter. I realized after I made this card today, I should have given it an Easter greeting considering! But nope, I have a non-Easter card to share with you on the day before Easter! I had a SSS stamp set in my stash that I had never gotten a chance to use and I've been wanting to for some time. It is called Thoughtful Flowers and it was released sometime last year. Here is an image:
It wasn't one of my favorites at first glance or I probably would have used it sooner. But then when I looked closer, I realized how cute it is. First, there are all these beautiful flowers which I love. I like that it has two types. I actually stamped them all and colored the others pink, so now I can make a second card with those. But i also loved all those little branches that you could use on a background. And then I love all the sentiments that are in it - so many options by combining them and I like typewriter fonts! Also, that quote is just a new favorite of mine - love it! Here is the first card I have made with the set. I'll be making another soon and who knows, maybe I'll even do a "one stamp, five ways" with this one.
I started my card the usual way. I stamped all of the images in the Thoughtful Flowers stamp set on Neenah white cardstock with MFT Natural Ink. Then I colored them in with colored pencils. I love my pencils as you probably know based on how often I use them. But I really love that I have several brands as there are pros and cons to all of the different types. Together, I'm able to mix them to do everything I want. For instance, I didn't think there was enough contrast on the leaves of the Crocus flowers. So I used my Caran d'ache Luminance pencil in Sap Green which is a really dark color to add some shading. The Luminance pencils are the most expensive pencils and the last ones I bought. I don't love them for some things. But I LOVE them for others. They are very opaque and they go on so smooth. The colors are dark and they are great for shading.
Next, I fussy cut out the flowers. I really love to fussy cut. It's all about the scissors and I have an old pair that work so perfectly. Makes me feel like I am wasting money when I buy dies! These flowers were fairly easy to cut out and that's good since this stamp doesn't have matching dies! Next, I painted the background (ok, let's be honest - it was already in my stash from a previous painting session!). I used my favorite craft supply ever - my Nuvo Shimmer Powders. I mixed Green Parade and Falling Leaves. I like how they look like really good bokeh in photos where the images are all blurry in the background.
I stamped the sentiment on a banner I had by MFT. I added some sparkling clear sequins and one Amethyst jewel. I love the font as I mentioned. I used Intense black ink to stamp it. I noticed as I was editing this card that some of the dark green splatters look black in the background. They are really dark green!
I hope you all have a Happy Easter! I so appreciate you visiting/reading my blog (if anyone is visiting/reading my blog). I love Jesus Christ and I am so very thankful for his Resurrection and all that he has done for us. I live everyday trying to be more like him and be loving and kind. Easter is my favorite holiday and this is one of the reasons and the most important one at that! HAPPY EASTER! XOXOXO suzy
