As I mentioned on my blog post last night, I am in the middle of a house renovation and I've been a little distracted so I have become quite forgetful! I completely forgot that the Simon Says Stamp card kit was released at midnight last night (9:00 pm my time pst). I had my cards all made, but never put up my blog post. So here it is - better late than absent from the party, right? The kit is called Dandelion Messages and here is an image of it:
I have 3 cards to share with you today and I used the Dandelion Message stamp set (which is sold alone as well) quite a bit on each. I usually do a "one stamp, five ways" post with the kit, but as mentioned earlier, my time has been limited. So 3 it is! Here is an image of the 3 together:
CARD 1:
I saw this patterned paper in the Creative Expressions Dandelion Dreams paper pad that is included in the kit. I think it is an 8x8 pad. I really love the papers as many are perfect for backgrounds like this one. I decided to stamp all of the dandelion images in the kit with MFT Natural Ink and then use colored pencils to mimic the color changes in the paper. I used lavender on the bottom, pinks in the center, and then moved up to salmons, oranges, and dark yellows. I cut around them and attached them over the paper. I used the grouping and then one single one poking out of the top.
Of course I had to add my Nuvo glitter drops to them, so I used a few colors so I could stay with the pencil colors. I applied them to the centers and just the ends of each Dandelion petal. I embossed a sentiment from the stamp set using Pink Peony embossing powder on a SSS Sentiment Strip die and attached that to the bottom of the card. i had to cut off the end of each dandelion and then attached the end below the sentiment so it was "longer". I tied a twine bow around the bottom - I don't know why, but I ended up using twine on all 3 of my cards. I guess I was just in a twine mood this time! I added some sparkling clear sequins.
CARD 2:
I used the Textured Dandelion Wish Embossing Folder included in the kit for the background of this card. I ran it through with regular cardstock and had trouble getting a good embossed design. I tried the heavier SSS Cardstock made for embossing and it worked much better. I applied Wild Honey Distress Oxide Ink to the flat side of the embossing folder before I put my cardstock in. It gave me a kind of crazy design, but I liked it! I attached that to a burnt orange cardstock base.
I die-cut one of the Dandelion dies from white cardstock. I pressed it onto my embossing pad. I used two embossing powders on it - Ranger Sunflower and Crackling Campfire embossing glaze. I love how it turned out - it's the one on the right. I also stamped two of the other dandelions from the stamp set and embossed those with both colors by pouring a little of each on them. One turned out almost all yellow, so I applied the red first the second time. I cut around those and attached all 3 to the front of the card with foam tape behind the tops of each. I embossed the sentiment with my leftover mix of the two colors on a SSS Sentiment Label die. I added some twine again and some sparkling clear sequins (always!). I'm in love with that technique I used on the die-cut dandelion by embossing the entire thing after pressing it onto an embossing pad. It gives you such a thick enamel like surface.
CARD 3:
When I stamped all of the dandelion stamps and colored them in with colored pencils for the first card, I had quite a few left over. When I was making the second card, I stamped several of the dandelions with an orange ink and then embossed over some of them with Tonic Glacier White embossing powder. So after having all of those left over from both cards (and all fussy cut out!), I figured out a way to use them all on this card. I also die-cut a few with the dandelion die and the metallic paper that came in the kit. One of those photographed a bit dark, but it looks better in the next picture.
I cut another piece of the gorgeous patterned paper from the kit for the background. I attached it to one of the Slimline Scalloped Border dies by SSS in white. I made the card smaller so the scallops are the border of the card. I then glued all of the dandelions I had across the card front. I used some Glitter Nuvo Drops on some of them again to make them shimmer. I used twine AGAIN, but this time I wanted to use that cute button that came with the kit so that was my excuse haha. I weaved the twine through the button holes and then tied a small tag from the SSS Fanciful Tag dies embossed with a sentiment from the stamp set using Antique Gold Embossing Powder. I love how that little tag looks on the bottom of the card. I couldn't figure out where to put a sentiment, so this option worked perfectly - sometimes I have to think out of the box or out of the "norm".
Thanks for visiting today. This kit is different, but different in a good way. I usually am more drawn to stamps that I can color in, but I figured out a way to still use my colored pencils on this one ha! I also loved the way the images of the Dandelions embossed! The kit is still available for purchase and is called Dandelion Messages. It kind of makes me want summer here now. Because then my house will be done and I can find time to go to the beach! xoxo suzy
