That blog post title is heavy! Because I don't have a lot of sunshine, joy, or happiness to share right now! haha It's a gloomy day in Southern Ca., my joy is stress about family matters, and my happiness is depleted due to a house renovation in progress. But that is the great thing about making a card. I can make something pretty that will hopefully bring others joy when they look at it even if the creator is a gloomy mess behind the scenes! Today I have used the Thoughtful Flowers stamp set by SSS that I used on another blog post recently HERE. Here is an image of the stamp set:
I told you on my last blog post using it that I wanted to use it again so I could use the second flower type that is in the set. I had colored them all pink back then and could only fit the iris on my card. Here is my card using the pink flowers:
I stamped the flowers and leaves on white cardstock with MFT Natural Ink and colored them in with colored pencils. The great thing about using pencils is you can use one color for all of your image. I used one pink. One. Then I leave some areas white and I go in with a white prismacolor pencil which is very waxy and smooth and blend the color out and add white areas. My white Prismacolor gets a lot of use! I also colored that butterfly. As I was making the card, I wish I had one of the smaller butterflies colored too as I would have used it. There are so many pieces in this stamp set when you look close, that I forgot to use a few!
Next, I created a background. I decided the flowers fit the best on a mini-slimline card size. The envelopes are 3.5 x 6.5" so I usually go 1/4" smaller. I used the SSS Mini Slimline Rectangle Dies for the card front and then I attached it to a white card base that is just slightly smaller than the envelope. I pulled out my Oxide Inks and tried to make a background that was much darker and had blue on the top, pink in the middle and green on the bottom. I added splotches of each color in the other colors. I wanted it to look like a Monet painting or a fuzzy background of the same flowers. It was too much. I created a new one with mostly blue using Tumbled Glass on the majority of the panel and then just a little Kitsch Flamingo on the bottom left corner. I used brushes so the coloring would be soft after seeing what a dark background looked like!
I attached all of the flowers on the background with foam tape under some of the blooms. I then stamped a sentiment from the stamp set on the top right side of the card. There are many words in the stamp allowing you to create any sentiment you want - one of the things i love about this stamp set. But when I wanted to include all of these words, I realized I didn't have an "and" to connect them. So I read the larger sentiment in the set and was so happy it had an "and" and it was right on the edge so I could cut it off and still include it back when I wanted to use the larger sentiment. It worked perfectly! I used SSS Intense black ink and added some sparkling clear sequins to finish it.
I hope this card brought you some cheer (sunshine, joy, and/or happiness)! Maybe I'll send it to someone I love and brighten their day! I always forget to send my cards out which is horrible... This stamp set is so useful for many occasions and I really love the flowers in it - called Thoughtful Flowers. Thanks for visiting today and have a great week! Suzy
What a beautiful card! I love the beautiful pinks with the yellow butterfly. It really makes one feel good.
