I have one of my favorite blog posts to share with you today - I love my "one stamp, 3 coloring methods" posts. I pick one stamp which is usually a cling background stamp by Simon Says Stamp. I then color it with 3 different coloring mediums which usually means colored pencils, Copic markers, and Karin Brushmarkers/Watercolors. Today I picked an oldie, but a goodie called the SSS Circle Doodle Background Stamp. Here is an image:
I remember when this stamp first got released - anyone else been around that long? I really liked it as a) I love circles and b) I love anything that is doodled. I liked how the lines are messy and all over the place! I thought it would be really fun to color and I did use it for a card or two. But I always wanted to use it again, so it seemed like a perfect choice for this type of post. I have the three card fronts all colored in this image:
As you can see from this photo, I used Karin Brushmarkers with white embossing powder, colored pencils with black ink, and Copics with no-lines. Here are the three made into cards with directions and supplies for each:
I stamped the Circle Doodle Background stamp on white cardstock with SSS Intense Black Ink. I colored in all of the circles with different colors of red and pink colored pencils. I used a frame from the MFT A2 Rectangle frames die-cut from white cardstock around the outside edge. I used a thin frame from the A2 Thin Frame dies from black cardstock. For some weird reasons, these frames fit inside the MFT frames perfectly! I die-cut the CZ Hello Die from white cardstock. I colored the "hello" word with Copics to match the background. I used a pre-printed sentiment strip below it to complete the greeting. I used some Chalk Stick Nuvo Drops around the sentiment.
This time I stamped the Circle Doodle Background stamp on white cardstock with MFT Natural Ink. I colored it in with Copic markers in all shades of blue. I cut this piece down and attached it to a white card base. I die-cut the CZ Love Your Guts die from white cardstock. I colored the words with the same shades of Copics. I attached that to the front of the card and used some of the Chalk Stick Nuvo drops around the sentiment.
I embossed the Circle Doodle stamp on Arches watercolor paper with white embossing powder. I then painted it with several Karin Brushmarkers in shades of blues and purples. I die-cut a frame using the SSS A2 Thin Frame Dies. This white frame is from the area between two of the thin frames (negative space). Love this size too! I attached the white frame over the background. I then die-cut the CZ Just Because die from watercolor paper. I painted the words with Violet Brocade Shimmer powder. I attached them to the front of the card and again used some of the Chalk Stick Nuvo Drops around the sentiment.
As usual, I would LOVE to hear which version you like the best. Here are the three finished cards together:
My favorite is almost always the Karin Brushmarkers. I could use any watercolor for this version, but I prefer these markers as they give you such saturated color. That is one benefit I like from most watercolor markers, but these have the ability to move the color around after it is on the paper. Most watercolor markers don't and they just stain the paper. So I love these markers so much. The colors are just beautiful and they move and blend and paint so well for markers! I feel bad that I'm using them so much more than my expensive Daniel Smith watercolors.
Thank you for visiting today. If you are interested in the Circle Doodle Background stamp, it is still available at SSS. It is definitely one of my all time favorite cling background stamps. Have a great week friends! Suzy xoxo
I have this set and never used it. Just got the Karin markers. Inspired to break both items out now!!
