Simon is blowing me away lately with all of these special edition kits for Spring! Today's kit is called Beautiful Humans and is perfect for Mother's Day, but it is also good for celebrating other special people as well. Here is an image of the kit:
Just a reminder - these special edition kits go fast, so if you are interested, don't wait too long. They are a great value for the money and are in limited quantities. I always feel bad when people miss out on them that really wanted them, thus the warning haha!
I have a "one stamp, five ways" post to share with you tonight using the kit in general, but focusing on the stamp set called Beautiful Mothers. It has a matching set of dies as well (which I didn't have so I did a bit of fussy cutting) or is sold as a bundle. Some of the other elements in the kit are sold alone as well as the stamp including the slimline stencil called Fading Florals. Here are my five cards:
CARD 1:
The papers in this kit are GORGEOUS! I particularly liked the back sides of them that are all soft spring colors in watercolor washes. I don't usually use floral papers on my cards, but I was prepared to use the backside of this paper that is a purple/blue color. I flipped it over and couldn't resist all those gorgeous flowers! I attached it to a pink card base and that became my background. I was so happy that the corner piece I had watercolored actually worked well over the flowers (intend of the plain other side), so I attached it with foam tape behind it. I painted this piece with the 4 Distress Inks that came in the kit. I was SO happy to get these mini ink pads of all the new Distress Ink colors so I could keep my collection complete of little ones! I kept it fairly messy which is hard for me, but I did go back in and do a little outlining with colored pencils to add more definition to the watercoloring. I forgot how fun it is to watercolor with Distress Inks!
I had embossed the extra large Happy Mother's Day stamp on the other side of the paper when planning this card. So now that I flipped it to the floral side, I had no idea what I was going to do! I ended up pulling out one of my "mom" dies which I love in that pretty script. I die-cut it from the same pink as the card base and white and layered it on the top. I then used the SSS A2 Thin Frame dies for the sentiment piece in the same two colors. This stamp not only had the perfect sentiment on it for my mom, but it also fit perfectly in this framed rectangle! I glued some pink/white twine to the bottom hanging one of the pretty Ranger metal hearts in the kit.
CARD 2:
This was my favorite card although it looks a bit better in person. I started by stamping the floral curved stamp on the top and on the bottom of a piece of Arches watercolor paper with MFT Natural Ink. I love that ink for all no-line stamping, but I also like that it doesn't bleed when you watercolor it. I always stamp my images with the Misti so I can stamp it twice to get the color dark enough for my liking. I painted it with my Daniel Smith watercolors. I die-cut this piece with a rounded edge rectangle I have in my stash by MFT. I attached it to a green card base.
I stamped two of the sentiments with black ink on the top and center inside the flowers. I then embossed the "love you" script stamp with Hot Pink embossing powder. I used some of my favorite Nuvo Dream drops in Dragon Scales. They are very pearlescent and so pretty! I tied a piece of green/white twine around the left side of the card and hung one of the pretty little Ranger hearts.
CARD 3:
For this card, I started with a white slim-line card base of white cardstock (8.5" x 3.5"). I then stamped the corner stamp on the top and on the bottom and some of the creatures/insects all with MFT Natural Ink. I then colored them all in with colored pencils and then doodled around them with a really fine tip black marker. Now came the hard part. Choices.....I'm so bad at choices!
My plan was to emboss the large sentiment in the center of the two corners. I used Pink Peony embossing powder. I got a little stuck on the frame though and tried a billion of them. I ended up with this basic stitched/scallop frame by Hello Bluebird (not sold at SSS at this time). I thought the pink and soft scallops looked pretty framing it. I used some Nuvo glitter drops here and there. I also added some sparkling clear sequins.
CARD 4:
I stamped the bouquet on a white cardstock mini-slimline card size piece (3.25" x 6.25"). I used MFT ink again and colored them in with colored pencils. I wish I could color small flowers like this with Copics, but I feel like the tips are too big to stay in the lines (since I don't use black lines it is hard). So pencils I stick to! I left space open on the bottom of the cardstock for a sentiment.
I die-cut this piece with the largest mini-slimline rectangle die. Then I used the largest rectangle in the Slimline Marquee die set for the frame. The smaller rectangle covered the dots, but gave it a nice egg. I cut a piece off and layered them at the bottom since it was meant for a large slim-line card. It's nice to use my slimline dies on the smaller slimline size card. I stamped a sentiment on a piece of the backsides of patterned paper and layered that on the bottom of the card. I used twine again as I couldn't resist hanging those pretty little hearts on these cards! I used Carribean Ocean glossy Nuvo drops around the flowers and some sparkling clear sequins.
CARD 5:
This card was a process. An unknown process. It just came to be haha with no plans on how when I started. I attached the Faded Floral stencil over a piece of white cardstock using Pixie Spray so it would stay in place. I then used my SSS blender brushes to apply the four colors of Distress Ink Mini Cubes that came with the kit over the stencil. I used non-stick tape to cover up the parts of the stencil I didn't want to add ink to. I loved how the four colors worked so well - I used both the Rustic Wilderness and Speckled Egg on the leaves. I used the Crackling Campfire for the "berries". I used Kitsch Flamingo for the flowers. Once it was done, I die-cut it with the largest Slimline Rectangle die. I attached it to a Chunky Slimline Scalloped Border die. I attached that to a white card base. I wish I hadn't done that as I don't like the scallops with the white behind them. I should have made the card base slightly smaller so the scallops looked better (in my opinion).
I outlined all of the inked areas with a fine tip black pen twice. I used Nuvo Glitter drops over all of the inked areas. I could have used a glitter paste over it while the stencil was still attached, but since I had removed it, I did it this way. I type like I talk - too many words and run on sentences haha (and misspellings I am sure haha). And lots of laughs! I used a small banner from the Word Mix 2 dies and black cardstock and embossed the sentiment from the stamp with white embossing powder. I used some Chalk Board Nuvo Drops around the sentiment and some sparkling clear sequins.
This Beautiful Humans SE Card Kit is so pretty and perfect for the upcoming holiday to celebrate Mothers and other special people in your lives. If you don't want the full kit, the Beautiful Mothers stamp set will make lots of beautiful cards and is sold alone. I hope you enjoyed this "one stamp, five ways" blog post. Thanks for visiting today! Suzy
