The newest Simon Says Stamp card kit was revealed today and it's a stunner! Anything with flowers is always a favorite of mine and since it is the April kit, it is full of them! The kit is called Friendly Flowers. In my "one stamp, five ways" posts, I focus on the stamp set which is sold alone and is also called Friendly Flowers. I also used many of the other kit contents on my cards including that gorgeous 6x8" patterned paper by Simple Stories called Cottage Fields. Here are my five cards:
CARD 1:
This card is the new slimline size which is 6.25" x 3.25". I cut a piece of the patterned paper that had the butterflies on it as I couldn't resist this piece. I love the way they are watercolored and now i want to try and watercolor just like that! I attached that to the center of the card front running vertically. I then used two of the other papers on each side of it. I glued some of the ribbon in the kit to the right of the butterflies (I think each kit has different colors, but mine had this burgundy). I used my old Ranger tiny attacher to make sure the ribbon stayed in place.
I stamped the butterfly stamp 3 times (with MFT Natural Ink, but we will pretend I used black ink and I doodled over the lines anyway!). I colored the butterflies in with Copics. I cut each out as I didn't have the matching dies and I used a glue dot beneath the center of each. I tried wet glue first and realized it wouldn't stick to the glue, so I pulled out my old trusty blue dots. I bent all of their wings up a little for dimension. I stamped three of the words in the stamp set with black ink between the butterflies to say "hello sweet friend". I used some Mustard Gold Nuvo drops around the butterflies.
CARD 2:
I die-cut a frame for this slim-line card using the Lawn Fawn Portrait Scalloped Die. I then cut a piece of that beautiful floral paper and put it on top of it (it wasn't long enough for a slimline card, so putting it on a frame like this made it fit perfectly being 8" long). I then die-cut one of the SSS Slimline Scalloped Frame dies from white cardstock and attached that to the top of the paper. I hated covering up some of that beauty!
I stamped two of each of the flowers with black ink and colored them in with Copics. I added some shading with colored pencils. I love using these two coloring mediums together. I cut the flowers out and attached them to the white piece. I stamped a sentiment below the flowers with black ink. I had to cut this one apart. I used my dreamy Nuvo Dream drops in Gold Luxe around the scallops. I attached one of the butterfly stickers to white cardstock so it was no longer a sticker (did this with all of the stickers in the kit) and then cut around it so I had a die-cut. I attached that to the top of the card with the wings tilted upward.
CARD 3:
This was my favorite card from the 5 and the only card that is a traditional size! I started by stamping the floral bouquet on a white cardstock card front with MFT Natural Ink. I then colored it in with colored pencils. The funny thing is, I did this first when I got the kit and didn't pick my colors to match the rest of the kit. When I pulled out all the papers, this was a perfect match! I ended up not using any papers on it though. I stamped two of the border stamps and embossed them. I used Ranger Embossing Glazes for these - the one on the left is Crackling Campfire and the one on the right is a mix of Cracked Pistachio and Rustic Wilderness. I poured some of the lighter color on first and left some space for the darker color on the edges. I cut both of these out and attached them to the left of the floral bunch.
I stamped a sentiment on the bottom right side of the card with black ink. I was really nervous to do this as I didn't want to wreck the card and I don't usually stamp over colored pencils. I thought it looked ok though thank goodness! I would have added a little banner there if I messed it up which I often do! I tied two colors of Lawn Fawn cording around the card between the two border colors that matched so perfectly - Aquamarine and Coral. I looped them into a double bow and used one of the Mini Flair embellishments in the center of the bow. I used Love Potion Dream Drops around the flowers. I love how they look like little pearls.
CARD 4:
I ended up making a second slimline card as this floral grouping fit so nicely on it. I started by making a card front with the SSS Chunky Slimline Scalloped dies. I cut a white card base to go underneath it making it smaller than the scallops so the edges of the card are the scallops. I cut three pieces of the paper (the 8" worked perfectly) to fit on the front of the card running vertically. Again, these gorgeous papers made such beautiful backdrops for the stamps and I love that some are subtle patterns perfect for the flowers on top.
I stamped the floral grouping on white cardstock with black ink and colored it in with Copics. I then cut around it and attached it with foam tape to the top of the card. I tried stamping the sentiment directly on the papers below the flowers. I didn't think it looked good where the papers overlapped. Oooops. So I stamped it again on white cardstock and cut around the edges and covered it up - problem solved! I added some sparkling clear sequins around the flowers. I also cut a butterfly out of one of the papers and attached that to the top.
CARD 5:
I wanted to make one card in a totally different color scheme and it really is! I cut a piece of white cardstock in the mini slimline size. I then stamped the two flowers and the butterfly over and over on it with black ink in what I call my "random stamping" technique. I never tire of it and I hope others don't! It gives me the chance to color the maximum amount which is always my goal haha. I colored all the flowers in with Copic markers.
I stamped a sentiment on a small white stitched banner and attached that to the bottom of the card with foam tape. I then used sparkling clear sequins and several colors of Nuvo drops around the sentiment including black and white.
That was a lot of cards! I hope you enjoyed this post and love the new Friendly Flowers Card Kit as much as I do! If you don't want the full kit, you can purchase just the stamp set called Friendly Flowers and if you have fussy cutting skills like I do (haha) you won't even need the dies! I'm trying to type a blog post right now while babysitting my two grandkids who are VERY distracting (in a good way), so please excuse any typos or mistakes in this post! xoxoxoxo Enjoy your weekend friends! Suzy
Beautiful cards! I am always blown away by your creativity and your colored pencil!
