I'm back again with another card using a stamp set from the SSS new Hello Beautiful release. If you missed the blog hop day 1, you can see my post HERE. I've already done two "one stamp, five ways" posts and I'll have my new set of Suzy's Easter Pal watercolor cards on the SSS blog on February 28th. So that means the card I am sharing today is my 17th card with the new release - wow haha! Today I am using the stamp set called Sketch Iris. There are matching dies and a bundle also, but I only used the stamp set for this card. Here is an image of it:
And here is my one layer card:
I started with a card size piece of white cardstock. I stamped the Iris floral group in the middle of the card front with MFT Natural Ink for no line coloring. I then stamped it on a piece of masking paper and cut it out. I covered my first stamped one and stamped it again on each side of the first one so I had a grouping of 3 of the images overlapping. Before I used the masking paper, I did the same thing and just stamped it 3 times with this light ink thinking that when I colored it, the lines wouldn't show. But it looked really messy and after coloring two of the flowers, I realized I needed to do it right - with masking paper!
Next, I spent about an hour coloring the images in with colored pencils. I realized I didn't like the way they looked without lines as the flowers seemed hard to tell apart. So I used a fine tip black marker and outlined all of the images. This probably seems counterproductive and it is - why not just stamp with black ink? But I don't like black lines around my images when I stamp them in black and if I doodle the lines with the finest tiped black marker, I think the lines are less dramatic. So I don't mind the extra step once in a while! I do think it added to this floral grouping so you could tell all the flowers and leaves apart! I added some yellow to the flowers in the most awkward way with no rhyme or reason to where it went - haha.
I cut the piece down and mounted it on a purple cardstock base with foam tape under it so it was more dimensional since it was just one layer. I stamped the sentiment directly on my colored images with Intense Black Ink and I was really nervous. I didn't want to mess my colored image up if the black ink smeared on the pencils. Luckily it worked. The only problem I had was the black ink over the pencils wasn't as dark as it was on the white. So I used that handy black fine tiped marker to darken those parts of the Y and it looked better. Whew. I added some purple nuvo drops and some sparkling clear sequins.
I hope you are all enjoying ALL the inspiration everywhere with the Hello Beautiful release. Tomorrow is the second day of the blog hop and there will be many more cards shared! I think this Sketch Iris set is so beautiful and I love that there are flat stamp images in the set as well so you can ink the color to save time. Of course I wanted to color it in since I live for coloring! Thanks for visiting! xoxo suzy
Beautiful card!
