Today I have one of my "one stamp, three coloring methods" posts to share with you. I was "dying" to color the eggs in the Doodle Egg background stamp that was released last Spring. I used it for this post so I could have an excuse to color it 3 times! Here is an image of the stamp:
I used my usual 3 different coloring methods including colored pencils, Copic markers, and Karin Brushmarkers. Here is an image of the 3 colored pieces together:
And here are the 3 colored images made into cards with individual pictures and directions for each.
CARD 1: COLORED PENCILS
I stamped the Doodled Egg Background stamp with MFT Natural Ink on white cardstock. I colored it in with a mix of colored pencils. I cut it down to be 5" x 3.75" so there is a 1/4" border on each side. The image is so busy that I wanted there to be enough white around it to frame it adequately. I used a sentiment from another Easter stamp set from last year called Bunny Butt Peek A Boo. I used my new Ranger Kitsch Flamingo embossing powder. It's the first embossing powder I have found in this shade of pink and I needed one! Love it! I used a SSS Sentiment Label die and cut it down to size. I attached that to the bottom of the card and added 3 sparkling clear sequins. Because that is the rut I am in right now on every single card I make haha!
CARD 2: KARIN BRUSHMARKERS
I embossed the stamp with white embossing powder on Arches watercolor paper (I prefer using it with these markers as they don't perform well on all watercolor papers). I painted the eggs with my Karin Brushmarkers. These markers are really one of the most used purchases I have made. I still love my expensive watercolors, but these are so fun and easy to use. I like the results too once I got over the learning curve. This card was the fastest to make by far as I didn't use multiple colors on each egg like I did the other two. I just used more or less water to change the intensity. Also the embossed edges make it really easy to keep the color where it belongs!
I used a greeting from the Spring Gnomes stamp set and used Sunflower embossing powder. I used a SSS Sentiment Label die again. I finished it with ..... drumroll please - 3 sparkling clear sequins.
CARD 3: COPIC MARKERS
This time I stamped the image horizontally with SSS Intense Black Ink on white cardstock. I colored it in with Copic Markers. I used a sentiment from the Hello Easter stamp set that I blogged about last night (my illustration, so my weird crazy lettering here!). I embossed it with white embossing powder. I used an Easter sentiment label below it that will be released in the release on February 26th. I added 3 sparkling clear sequins.
So, as usual I'll ask which one do you prefer? This is the first time I've liked the colored pencils the most. After I colored it, I felt like it needed black outlines to separate all the eggs. But my least favorite is the Copic one with the black lines. I do like the Karin Brushmarkers too and they took the least time to color. I painted it in about an hour where the colored pencil one took a few hours - eeek! Thanks for visiting and STAY HEALTHY AND SAFE!!!
