I think these "one stamp, three coloring methods" posts are my favorite to do. I love coloring one stamp 3 ways probably because I just love to color! I try to use stamps that have a lot of area to color and I usually end up using cling stamps. Today I picked the Radiating Hearts Cling stamp from the Love You, Too release from Simon Says Stamp. Here is an image of the stamp:
I stamped one with black ink and colored with Copics, a second I stamped with MFT Natural Ink and colored with no-lines using colored pencils, and on the third, I embossed the stamp with white embossing powder and colored with Karin Brushmarkers. Here is an image of the 3 completed colored images before I made them into cards:
And here are the images all made into cards with directions for each:
CARD 1: COLORED PENCILS
I stamped the Radiating Hearts cling stamp with MFT Natural Ink on Neenah White Cardstock. I then picked 5 colored pencils going from a light pink to a darker red that all blended together. I used Pablo pencils by Caran d'Ache, but any colored pencils will work. I started with the lightest color on the inside of each heart and then went darker and darker as I moved outward. I didn't really like the way this turned out as the edges all overlap, so the darker colors were covered up with other darker colors making it hard to see the different hearts. This is also due to the no-line coloring. And of course, this one took the longest to color by far! I used a red glitter pen to make those little lines on each heart. I cut this piece to be 5.25" x 4" and attached it to a white card base with foam tape underneath it. I used the CZ Love You die and added a pre-printed sentiment strip underneath it. Last, I added some sparkling clear sequins.
This time I stamped the Radiating Hearts Cling Stamp on white cardstock with SSS Intense black Ink. I then picked 5 Copic markers from light pink to dark red to color it with. I started with the darkest color on the inside of the design on the hearts. I then moved outward with the colors getting lighter and lighter. this is easier to see that I used different colors than on the colored pencil one. Because they overlap so much, you don't get as much of the differences as you would. I followed the same steps, but used a different Love You die also by CZ (I just purchased both of these and really like them!). I used another pre-printed sentiment strip underneath and finished with some sparkling clear sequins again.
3. KARIN BRUSHMARKERS
I embossed the Radiating Hearts stamp with white embossing powder on Arches watercolor paper. I then picked 5 colors of Karin Brushmarkers from my full set of 60 I recently purchased. I'm so glad I got the full set as I really love these markers! I started with the darkest color on the inside of the hearts again and moved to lighter as I moved outward. Again, all the overlapping of color kind of ruined being able to see all the colors. After it was dry, I went back in and colored the darkest red on the bottom left side of the hearts and just used a damp brush to move the color up a little and blend it in. I like how this gave the hearts a more messy look instead of each of them being perfectly smooth and boring! I again added one of the CZ Love You dies keeping all 3 black and white for the biggest bang. It's such a busy stamp that I didn't want them to get lost on the cards. I added another pre-printed sentiment strip because they are the best invention ever. No more embossing little sentiments makes me so happy!!! I finished with some more sparkling clear sequins.
And last, here are the 3 cards together:
Sooooo, which one is your favorite? I always ask, but no one ever tells me - hahaha - maybe they all suck!?!?!?! I almost always prefer the watercolored version. I'm not sure if that is because the Karin Brushmarkers give such intense color OR if it's because I like the embossed white images. If you have this Radiating Hearts Cling Stamp, I hope this has given you some motivation to try some different coloring methods with it. This would work with any of your other cling stamps as well! You can visit the Love You, Too Gallery to see more cards made with this stamp. Thank you so much for visiting today! xoxo Suzy
