Today I'm back with a "one stamp, 3 coloring methods" post for the first time in a while! I saw this cling stamp set called Heart Garden from the Love You, Too release and had to use it more than once (but didn't want to use it 5 times haha). So I thought I would try the 3 different coloring methods with it. Here is an image of the cling stamp:
I colored it with Copic Markers, colored pencils, and painted it with Daniel Smith watercolors. (I think Karin Brushmarkers would have been better as they are more vibrant). Here is an image of the three colored pieces before I made them into cards. One is a standard size card, one is a slimline card, and one is the new smaller slimline card size.
Now I'll show you the three colored pieces made into cards and give you directions for each.
CARD 1: COPIC MARKERS
For this first one I used Copic markers and it is definitely the most vibrant. I stamped the Heart Garden cling stamp on white cardstock (standard A2 card size) with Intense Black Ink. I then picked out two shades of each of the colors so I had one for the main area and one to blend with the last color. I spent a lot of time trying to get a smooth blend. I then colored in the hearts and leaves with markers so they were a bit darker.
I didn't like the way the outlines looked that you can see in the photo at the beginning showing them all colored. It got lost with all the dark colors. So I decided to emboss the Heart Garden cling stamp over it again with white embossing powder. I didn't want it to match up (as I knew i would mess up if i tried). I thought it would look cool just a little askew or next to it. I actually lined up the stems accidentally, but I like how the hearts turned out. I think the white made the heart design pop a lot more. I die-cut the piece with the largest A2 Thin Frame die and mounted it on a white cardstock card base. I die-cut two sentiments from the black and white Lucky preprinted sentiment strips using the Sentiment Label dies. I attached them with foam tape underneath and added some sparkling clear sequins and white Nuvo drops.
CARD 2: COLORED PENCILS
I made a slim-line card front with white cardstock. I stamped the Heart Garden stamp with MFT Natural Ink. I covered up part of the design and restamped part of it to fill in the extra space. It was easy to match up the pattern. I planned on coloring in the background with pencils like I did with the Copics, but I ended up just coloring the hearts and stems with colored pencils. I die-cut this piece with the SSS Slimline Nester Rectangle Die. I tried mounting it on all of the colors shown and didn't like a plain color. So I did a little math (or my husband did in his head - he divide 3.5/4 so fast!) and layered four colors of cardstock behind the design.
I die-cut a sentiment strip with the Sentiment Label dies and I embossed one of the two sentiments in the Heart Garden stamp set with white embossing powder. I tried a few different colors of strips as well and tried layering some. I also tried white with red embossing powder matted on a color. I have issues. I can never make decisions so I try a little of everything and end up doing way more work. Which still leaves me with a decision to make! I went with my simplest option and just glued it down before I could give it anymore thought! I added some sparkling clear sequins and Raspberry Jewels around the sentiment.
CARD 3: DANIEL SMITH WATERCOLORS
I Cut a piece of Arches watercolor paper the right size for a small slimline card based on the new SSS Slimline Envelopes. (6.25" wide x 3.25" tall). They are the same width, just shorter than a standard slimline and I LOVE this size! I embossed the stamp this time with white embossing powder in the center of the paper and then embossed a couple more of the hearts on each side to fill in the area. As mentioned above, I painted this one with Daniel Smith watercolors, but I thought that Karin markers would have given me deeper color. I just wasn't sure how easy it would be to blend the colors. I added extra red color to the hearts.
After it dried I cut it down slightly and attached it to a white cardstock card base so it was framed with white. I also die-cut a Sentiment Label in white. I embossed the second sentiment in the stamp set with Carnation Red embossing powder. I attached it to the bottom of the card and added some sparkling clear sequins.
Here is an image of the 3 cards finished together:
As usual, I would LOVE to hear which one you like the best. I think the Copic one is the prettiest because I love the vivid rainbow colors. But I didn't like it until I added the white embossing over the colored image. I like the watercolored one second best. And my least favorite is the colored pencil one. It's too plain for my taste! Thanks for visiting today. All of the products I used for these cards are listed in the supply list at the bottom of this post. xoxo suzy
