Today I have the rest of my Roses are Red watercolor cards painted and made into cards to share with you. This set was part of the recent Love You release at Simon Says Stamp. Here is an image of the set:
I showed 3 of these cards colored during the Love You blog hop. You can see that blog post HERE with directions for these 3, but here are images:
And now I will show you the other 3 cards painted with directions and supplies I used for each:
I painted this card with my Daniel Smith watercolors. I've been using the Karin Brushmarkers quite a bit lately, so it was nice to return to my professional grade paints. Awe, they spread so nicely and don't stain the paper like markers do. Definitely pros and cons to each medium. One thing I do always and wish I could stop doing is add shading with colored pencils. I always want some deep color that I can't get with watercolors (at least not with my skills), so I use pencils to get them. But then I feel like the pencils ruin the soft look of the watercolors on their own. I'm a work in progress, that's for sure! OH, I also use a white uniball on petal edges to add more white areas and sometimes I press my finger onto the pen marks before they dry so I get a softer look.
After I painted it and used colored pencils to add shading, I die-cut the card with the SSS A2 Thin Frame die and mounted it on a red card base. I die-cut the "love you" die from the new Heart Animals die from both white and black cardstock and layered them. I die-cut a sentiment from the CZ Thinking of You Sentiment Strips using a Sentiment Label die and attached that below the Love You die. I then finished it with some sparkling clear sequins.
I used the Nested Oval dies to die cut a large oval in the center of a white card front. I then ran the outside piece through my die-cutter with the new Lumen embossing folder. I colored the rose watercolor card the exact same way as above even down to the colored pencils. I then cut around it and tucked it into the oval area so it was just attached to the right edge of the card.
I used the new Hugs die from the Die-cember release for the sentiment. I die-cut it from both rose glitter paper and white cardstock. I then attached those at the bottom of the card. I used a preprinted sentiment strip for the "sending" portion. And again, I added some sparkling clear sequins.
Again, I painted this card with my Daniel Smith watercolors and added some colored pencil shading. I then cut around it again so I could give it a more interesting background. I used the SSS Tiny Stencil Die with Texture Paste colored with Distress Inks in Mustard Seed and Squeezed Lemonade. When I do this technique, I don't mix the colors in the paste - I just use some over the texture paste here and there with the palette knife so the color varies from light to dark in different places. I love these kind of backgrounds as the texture really does look cool!
I attached the cut out rose watercolor card over the background (hard to attach, so you have to use hard core glue!). I stamped a sentiment from the CZ Thankful stamp set and die set using Antique Gold embossing powder. I stamped the smaller sentiment using a Sentiment Label die and Leaf Green embossing powder. I attached the "grateful" sentiment with foam tape behind it and the other below it. And I added some ... wait for it ... sparkling clear sequins again! I get in moods and lately I seem to want sparkling clear sequins on every card I make!
That's it for today folks! I'll be back tomorrow with one last holiday card and on Sunday with a one stamp, five ways post. I hope you will come back to visit. And I hope my blog readers are well. And I hope my blog readers (do I have any???) are enjoying the holidays. Because I'm the grinch, but at least I am so far a healthy grinch. Thanks for the visit! Suzy
