When I saw this 6"x8" stamp set in the Love You release, I immediately had ideas to use it for and wanted to do a "one stamp, five ways" post with it. I finally got a chance to do so! I love the story of this stamp set. Cathy Z. usually designs stamps for Simon as you probably know and her style is very graphic. I noticed that this stamp was a little more playful and the font was different, so I was surprised it was by her. But then I read that her daughter designed it - so cool. She did an amazing job too! It is called Light Me Up and here is a peek at it if you haven't seen it:
As the title states, I have 5 cards to share with you using this stamp, so here we go!
CARD 1:
My first card is my favorite card - I should have saved it for last! I used a piece of patterned paper in my stash, from a Honeybee 6x6 pad called Over the Rainbow. I die-cut that with the SSS A2 Thin Frame die and attached it to a white card base. I stamped all of the images with Intense Black Ink on white cardstock. I colored them all in with Copic Markers and then die-cut them with the matching Light Me Up dies (well worth the extra price for this set!).
I used a gray Copic marker to add shading to the inside of the jar image. I then added all of the hearts (3 sizes), the large 3 lightbulbs and the 1 small lightbulb images to the inside of the bottle, overlapping them to cover the area. I attached the jar to the front of the card. I trimmed the candle and stuck the base under one of the hearts and let it poke out the top of the jar. I added some Yellow Bird glitter drops to the flame on the candle. I also added 3 of the little bugs to the top of the card. I then embossed the sentiment from the stamp set with white embossing powder on black cardstock and used the matching die to cut it out. I love when stamp sets have dies to cut closely around the sentiments making this die set again worth the price. I attached it over the jar with foam tape. I finished it with some Nuvo Vintage drops in Blackboard (black) and Chalkstick (white). These are brand new as I sometimes don't want my white and black drops to be glossy. These have a more matte finish yay! I see I also added a small dog hair to the bottom of my card, but that is definitely optional! haha
CARD 2:
I had to make a slim-line card of course (because I love them so much). I tried these images on a regular card size and they did fit fine, but I thought they looked better spread out this way. I used the SSS Slimline Marquee die for the blue piece and attached that to a white card base (3.5" x 8.5"). I stamped all of the stamps I used with white embossing powder on Arches watercolor paper. I painted them in with my Daniel Smith watercolors and then die-cut all of them out. I did lots of hearts even though I didn't know what my card design was going to be yet!
I arranged the stamps on the card front with the jar at the bottom, the small candle on the bottom and the tall candle coming out the top (I left some space between for the sentiment so the candle would come out of the top of the jar). I cut the little flame off the short candle and attached it over the flame on the tall candle (why not?!?!). I then arranged all of the hearts I had made in the jar and above the jar. I added some Sea Breeze Nuvo Jewel Drops. You can't tell, but they are the same color as the light paint on my jar. I embossed the sentiment on the same watercolor paper with white embossing powder and then painted around it with the same color pink paint as the hearts. I attached it between the two candles with foam tape.
CARD 3:
I used my overused method of "random stamping" for this card - you know I can't resist! I stamped just the light bulbs and the hearts randomly over a white card front with MFT Natural Ink. I turned them all topsy turvy so they would fit. I colored them all in with colored pencils. I used a silver glitter pen over the silver areas (haha), but I accidentally smeared some of that ink which is why you see little white spots all over (I used a white Uniball to cover all the silver splotches). To add to the look, I added white strips on the hearts as well. I always try to make my mistakes work! I used the silver glitter pen in the set by Kaiser Craft that I use all the time as they have a very fine tip (but they do smear before drying just FYI hahaha). But a silver uniball would also work, it just has a wider tip.
I used the A2 Thin Frame die to die-cut this piece and attached it to a black card front. I then embossed the two sentiments on black cardstock with white embossing powder. I die-cut the Love You one with the matching die (did I mention how much I love these matching dies???). I die-cut the smaller one with the SSS Sentiment Label dies. I attached both to the front of the card and added some sparkling clear sequins around the sentiments.
CARD 4:
I managed to make a Christmas card with this set even though it wasn't intended to be for Christmas. I thought the long line would be perfect to hang the small lights on as Christmas lights. I started with a piece of Arches watercolor paper die-cut with a stitched rectangle (an old MFT one I have in my stash). I painted it with shimmer powder in Golden Sparkler and Catherine Wheel. I flicked the colors over the front and also tapped the Catherine Wheel bottle over it so little drops of it came out on the slightly damp background. I added some flicks of the gold paint from the Zig Kuretake Starry Colors paint set.
I embossed three of the lines (what are these called) across the card and then the small lights hanging from it. I used Antique Gold embossing powder on all. I painted the inside of the lights with the same red shimmer powder. I then used Ruby Slippers Nuvo Glitter Drops over each. I let them dry and applied a second coat so they would be more dimensional. I also used Mustard Gold Metallic Nuvo Drops over the tops of the lights. I used the CZ Joyful die for the sentiment with red glitter paper on the bottom and gold metallic paper on the top. I used a sentiment strip from the Reverse Holiday Sentiment Strips set die-cut with the Sentiment Label dies. I added some of the Mustard Gold Nuvo Drops around the sentiment and used some Autumn Gold sequins as well.
CARD 5:
This card doesn't use many of the stamps in the set - just the jar. But I wanted to show the jar with flowers in it a I have always wanted a large jar stamp to use this way. It wouldn't fit on the card front (I could have used a slim-line though!) so I hung it off the edge of my card front. I stamped it with MFT Natural Ink on Arches watercolor paper and die-cut the piece with the largest frame from the A2 Thin Frame dies. I then stamped the flowers from the Freestyle Flowers stamp set.
I painted the jar and flowers in with my Daniel Smith watercolors. I used a colored pencil for the stems in the jar. I painted a piece of watercolor paper with Cherry Bomb shimmer powder and used it for the base of the CZ Hugs die. I also die-cut it with white cardstock and glued the white pieces on top of the watercolored base. I attached that to the bottom of the jar. I added some sparkling clear sequins.
I hope you liked this "one stamp, five ways" post with the darling Light Me Up stamp set. Thank you so much for visiting! xoxo suzy
