I love snowflake stamp sets so much. I always get excited when a new one comes out. This year, SSS released a set called Prismatic Snowflakes that has all the perfect components for me - lots of sizes with both big and small, geometric designs that can be used just as outlines or colored in, and have matching dies. When this set first came out in the Make Merry release, it didn't have dies with it. But then the dies were released in the Holly Jolly release and I knew I had to use it for a "one stamp, five ways" post. Unfortunately I just realized it is out of stock though - so sorry! I hate it when I do a stamp set post and it's not in stock in case anyone wants to buy it! I'm sure it will be back in very soon though! Here is an image of the stamp and die which can be purchased together:
Today I have 4 cards and one set of tags to share with you using this stamp and die set.
CARD 1:
I die-cut a piece of white cardstock with the largest A2 frame die which gives it a perfect border showing the card color underneath. I stamped all of the snowflakes from the Prismatic Snowflake stamp set randomly over my card front using my Misti stamping tool. I used MFT Natural Ink for a no-line look. I colored all of them in with colored pencils outlining them with the pencil color I was using.
I die-cut a banner from white cardstock using the SSS Word Mix 2 dies. I stamped a sentiment from the Christmas Kitties stamp set with intense black ink. I tied some twine around the top of the banner and attached it with foam tape behind it on the top right side of the card. I used Nuvo Glitter Drops over the snowflakes to make them really sparkle! I added some Pretty Pink Posh Amethyst Jewels around the sentiment banner.
CARD 2:
For this card, I used the All Snowflakes cling stamp from the Make Merry release this year. My 5 year old grand-daughter was over while I was making this card, so I told her she could pick the color of embossing powder I would use to emboss this stamp. When she picked one of my all time favorites - WOW Royal Crush which is a beautiful lavender color with blue glitter in it, I was very unsure how it would look and even slightly regretted letting her pick! But then when I saw it embossed, I was so happy as it looked just beautiful!!! She was pretty excited with it too! Audrey is going to be my little protege in this crafting world! I then embossed all of the snowflakes with WOW Cloud 9 embossing powder which is a sparkling silver - a definite must have for snowflakes! I die-cut them all out with the matching dies.
I stamped the word JOY from the SSS Holiday Sparkle stamp and die set with Nuvo Silver embossing powder. I had some areas that didn't emboss right so I was about to start over. But instead I used a Silver Uniball and it worked perfectly to fill in the open areas! I attached the word joy first with foam tape behind it and I glued the ends down and cut off the excess. I then attached the snowflakes tucking them under the word and then using a smaller one on top of the larger ones with foam tape behind them. I used PPP amethyst jewels in the center of each. I'm really bummed as I had a sentiment strip that was suppose to be on this card over the bottom of the word joy to complete the sentiment and I forgot to add it. So the card doesn't look complete to me.
CARD 3 and CARD 4:
My next two cards are very similar and use similar techniques, so I'm including them together. Above is a photo of the two backgrounds like the ones I used for them so you can see how they looked before I covered them. I painted them both with Nuvo Shimmer Powder. The one on the left uses Catherine Wheel and the one on the right uses Meteorite Showers. I flicked paint from the Zig Gansi Tambi Starry Colors watercolors on each. I used the Red Gold for the left and the Pearlescent for the right. This little set of 6 colors is the bomb and I use it all the time especially for holiday projects. I used Ranger Watercolor Paper for both of these.
Once the background was painted, I die-cut it with the SSS A2 Frame Die and attached it to a white card base. I also flicked some white acrylic paint over this one. I then used the same A2 thin frame dies for the smaller piece with the sentiment. I glued that to the center of the card front. I embossed a sentiment from the CZ Good Cheer stamp set (which fits this frame die so perfectly!) and Steel Navy embossing powder.
I stamped all of the snowflakes from the stamp set with silver ink and die-cut them out. I then used Ranger Stickles over them. I applied one coat and felt like they were too flat so after they dried I applied another coat. I wish I hadn't as they were much more delicate before I did this. I used Diamond Stickles and Star Dust Stickles over each line. They have such fine tips that it was easy to do. I attached three to the top and three to the bottom of the card. I added some white jewels to some centers and around the snowflakes.
I used a red background like the one shown above for this card with gold flecks on it. I die-cut it with the A2 largest frame die and attached it to a white card front. I die-cut a smaller frame die from the same set out of white cardstock. I embossed a sentiment from the CZ Good Cheer stamp set with silver embossing powder. I attached that to the bottom of the card front.
I attached the rest of the snowflakes I had made for the last card to the top of this one. I actually lost (yes LOST!!!) my two smallest snowflakes at some point in this process, so I just had three big ones left for this card. It was fun making two different cards with basically the same techniques and with the same products. I again added some white jewels around the card front to finish it.
TAGS:
I just love making tags, especially for Christmas gifts! Last year I made a bunch and actually used them all instead of hoarding them and my presents looked oh so pretty with all handmade tags on them. So I will use these colorful ones this year for sure! I used three different SSS tag dies for these: the CZ Nested Tag dies for the 2 largest ones, the SSS Large Tag Dies for the 3rd large one, and the SSS Fanciful Tags for the smallest two. I die-cut all of them from white cardstock. I then used my Distress Oxide Inks to both color the largest 3 tags and to color a piece of white cardstock to emboss the snowflakes on. For the cards I used Wilted Violet and Shaded Lilac for the purple tag, Candied Apple, Worn Lipstick and Picked Raspberries for the red tag, and Mermaid Lagoon and Peacock Feathers for the aqua tag. I also applied these same colors in 3 strips on white cardstock.
I stamped and embossed the snowflakes with white embossing paper on the 3 colors of distress oxide ink papers I inked with the colors listed above. I die-cut them out and attached them on the tags (note: I left the 3 small tags white). I layered them with 3 on the large tags and 2 on the small tags which used almost all of the 11 in the set. I added white jewels in the center of each. I embossed a sentiment with white embossing powder on the blue tag using the We Believe stamp set. I used the JOY CZ die for the largest tag. The other sentiments were from various stamp sets I pulled out and don't remember haha. But give me this - this has been one long blog post!!!
And with that, it's a wrap. Thank goodness as it's way past my bed time over here and I have a horrid headache from too much time on my laptop!!! I hope you enjoyed these five cards/tags though and hopefully the Prismatic Snowflake stamps and dies will be back in stock soon as I'm sure everyone wants them now - haha. Thanks so much for visiting! xoxoxoxox Suzy
