This is my second post for my new 3 card series called "one stamp, 3 coloring methods". I'm really into naming things as you can tell. I still have my "one stamp, 5 ways" series as well. I'll be posting one of each every single week. Because I'm an empty nester now and really motivated! Today I am using a new cling stamp from the SSS Make Merry release called Center Cut Fall Leaves. As soon as I saw this stamp, I knew I wanted to color it. It is whimsical and cool and has lots of little spots to color. It was better than a coloring book in my humble opinion! Plus I got to make my coloring into cards - win/win! Here is an image of the stamp:
The center cut cling stamps allow you to leave the center in or take it out. Now that's quite an explanation! haha I'll show it done both ways. I picked a color scheme based on the November card kit as I loved the paper pad in that kit. I decided to use wines, teals, yellows, and oranges. I colored the colored pencil one first and didn't decide to add yellow until that one was done, but otherwise all 3 use the same colors. I like having one color scheme so you can really tell the difference between the look of the coloring mediums comparing apples to apples if you will! Here is a photo of my 3 different coloring methods:
I stamped the cling stamp with MFT Natural Ink and colored it in with colored pencils including the heart area. I die-cut it with the SSS A2 largest Frame Die. I attached it to an orange cardstock base. I used the SSS Warm Hugs die over the center - which means I probably didn't need to color it! I also used a word strip from the SSS Thanks Sentiment Strips with the SSS Sentiment Strip dies (my new favorite as I don't have to stamp and it's just SO easy!). I added a heart sticker from the Mini Heart Stickers from the last card kit. I also used some orange Nuvo drops.
These are edited very differently - I apologize for that! I used Arches cold press watercolor paper and embossed the stamp with white embossing powder. I then die-cut the piece with the SSS A2 frame die. I attached it to a fuchsia card base. I painted in the design with Karin Brushmarkers. I die-cut the SSS Thankful for you die from cream cardstock and fuchsia card stock and layered that on the bottom of the heart. I used Pink Orchid Metallic Nuvo drops around the sentiment.
I stamped the image with SSS Intense Black Ink on white cardstock. I colored it in with Copic Markers. This time I left the center out of the stamp. I think I like it better this way and it was less coloring too! I used the newest SSS Happy Birthday die. I used a pre-printed birthday sentiment from one of my recent card kits. I attached that below the sentiment. I used 3 colors of Nuvo drops in the same color scheme around the sentiment.
Sooooo, what is your preferred coloring medium? Do you decide what to use based on what you like best or based on what you like to color with best? I enjoy coloring with pencils the most. BUT, they are also the most time consuming. I don't love using watercolors and when I use the Karin markers, they are a bit tricky and some areas spread and I get frustrated because I'm a perfectionist. I think Copics are fun to color with too, but they are the fastest for me. I think this one took about an hour while the colored pencil one probably took 3 hours! Have a great weekend friends and thank you as always for visiting! Suzy
