Today I have a "one stamp, five ways" post to share with you using the brand new Simon Says Stamp July card kit called Home Sweet Home. Here is an image of the kit:
As usual, I will be focusing on the 6x8" Home Sweet Home stamp set that is included in the kit and also sold alone. I have 5 cards to share with you below.
CARD 1:
This stamp set works really well on slim-line cards as the city scene stretches for about 7.5" long (although it can be cropped for smaller cards as well). I make my slim-line cards to be 8.5" x 3.5". If you cut a piece of cardstock to be 7" wide, you can use that for the card base (folded in half). Then you cut off 1" of the remaining cardstock piece so it is the right size for the card front. For this card, I cut a white piece of cardstock for the front to be just a little smaller and I framed it with a die-cut slimline diagonal stripes die by Pink Fresh Studio.
I cut a piece of the paper in the kit (navy with clouds) to be just a little smaller than that to fit onto the white base. I then stamped the little city scene with MFT Natural ink on white cardstock and colored it in with colored pencils. I cut around the scene and attached it to the bottom of the card front.
I also stamped some of the clouds, the plane, the sun, and the banner and colored them in with colored pencils. For the greeting, I used a navy blue colored pencil over the words. I cut all of these items out and attached them to the front of the card over the cloud paper.
CARD 2:
This card shows off the gorgeous papers in this kit. I die-cut the yellow and pink floral paper with the largest rectangle in the SSS A2 frame set and then cut a piece of white cardstock the same thickness and about 3" wide. I stamped five of the hearts along the top of this piece with Pink Peony embossing powder. I colored inside of each heart with a pink colored pencil and then I used a Tonic Shimmer Pen over them dipping it into the Opal Blaze Polish that came with the kit. It works really well with this polish to spread it, but the polish adds way more shimmer than the pen by itself.
I embossed the sentiment with Sunflower embossing powder just below the hearts. I used the SSS Scalloped Border dies along the bottom edge and attached it over the two pieces of patterned paper. I tied a piece of twine at the top and then used some Blush PPP jewels between the hearts.
CARD 3:
This card was a little "high maintenance" to make, but that was probably because I made a few mistakes and kept changing the idea I had in my head! I ended up in a completely different place than I planned, but it works and I like it! I started with a Pink Fresh Slim Braided Circles Die die-cut from yellow cardstock. I cut a piece of white cardstock the same size and then traced inside the three circles with a pencil. I die-cut another one of the frame dies on masking paper and attached that over the white piece lining up the circles. I embossed the sentiment in the center circle with Ranger Forget-Me-Knot embossing powder.
I cut the house off the end of the house stamp and I stamped it in the center of each of the outside circles. I stamped the house on a piece of masking paper and cut it out. I attached that over the house. I cut off the small group of trees and stamped that on both sides of the house overlapping it. I also stamped the sun on one and the moon and stars on the other. I colored in the two scenes to look like the same house in the day and at night with colored pencils. I was soooo tempted to dress it up a bit with some sequins or jewels or even Nuvo drops, but I stopped myself!
CARD 4:
This card went through a bit of a metamorphis too! I started by applying Story Sky and Chipped Sapphire Distress Oxide Ink to a piece of white cardstock with my Picket Fence Brushes. I then rubbed a thick layer of the Cosmic Shimmer Polish over it (that came with the kit) using my finger. I felt like I couldn't get an even look, so I wasn't really happy with it at this point. I decided to spray it with some Nuvo Mica Mist in Midnight Horizon. This gave it a more even look. I think if I had mixed a little water with the shimmer polish, it would have gone on more evenly and maybe used a sponge to apply it instead of my finger! But what I ended up with made me really happy as it is soooooo shimmery!
You can see the shimmer easier in this photo. I then embossed the clouds, stars and moon all over it with white embossing powder. I stamped the three stars and the sentiment on a SSS Sentiment Label and attached that over the background with foam tape. I added some sparkling clear sequins to finish it.
CARD 5:
I stamped the little house scenes on a piece of Arches watercolor paper for this card. I stamped with SSS intense black ink (which works with both Copics and water without smearing yay!). I just bought myself a Mother's Day present - a full set of Karin's Brushmarkers. I was so excited to try them out on this card! I found that they need a bit of a learning curve. For example, don't apply them directly to the paper as they are very intense. It is best to color with them on a plastic piece and then pick up color with a wet paint brush. I did love the intensity of the color though once i figured out how to apply them!
I tried to make this a one layer card, but I had some problems with my markers bleeding outside the lines when I applied them directly to the paper. I fixed it by stamping the airplane, banner, and sun on white cardstock and starting over on them. I cut them out and placed them over the original ones. The white borders around them covered up all my accidental color problems! I always try to fix everything so I don't have to throw cards away. I applied the shimmer polish to the clouds and then I added some Nuvo White Blizzard drops for some dimension. I also used glitter drops on the water in the fountain and the center of the sun.
I hope you enjoyed this "one stamp, five ways" post. I try to explain all of the problems I run into so you don't think making cards is always easy for anyone! I make lots of mistakes in my process, but I can almost always find a way to save the work I've done. I loved this Home Sweet Home card kit as I like making slim-line cards and it worked perfectly for them. I hope companies come out with more slim-line stamp designs! Thanks so much for visiting and have a great weekend friends! Suzy
Cute card. How did you create the sky so neatly around the scene?
