Today is the first day of a 2 day blog hop celebrating the new Lucky To Know You release by Simon Says Stamp. I have a new set of watercolor cards that are part of this release called Suzy's Spring and Easter Wishes. Here is an image:
I have all 12 colored and made into cards to show you. After all of the images, I'll give you some basic tips and techniques I use when coloring them. At the end of this post, I'll have all of the details of the blog hop with a link to the next stop.
Here are some standard Tips and Techniques I use when painting these cards. I list them each month, so I feel like I am getting really repetitive on these. You can visit any of my past posts to see many more ideas as I have every collection of my 45 or so all colored on my blog.
- Mix your coloring mediums. I used watercolors and colored pencils on all of these.
- Try all of your different types of watercolors. I usually use my Daniel Smith palette and forget to pull my other options out. This time I also used some watercolor pencils and I loved how they added the look of pencil strokes, but also moved with water. I might have to use them more often!
- I used Tonic Shimmer Powders quite a bit especially for backgrounds. They come in really bright colors and they are very shimmery. (links to the colors I used at the end of this post)
- Add Tonic Nuvo Drops over elements on your cards. I used glitter ones over many things to dress them up/decorate them. I also used the Jewel ones over many of the eggs.
- Use a gray pencil or Copic marker to add shadows behind your letters. Or even try a color like I did on the Happy Easter one (added a pink shadow to the letters).
- Use the new A2 frame dies by Simon to die-cut the cards and add a cardstock frame around them (see my very last card).
Yesterday I posted a "one stamp, five ways" blog post using my new Hello Easter stamp set that is part of this release. These are the five cards I made with it, but if you visit my post HERE, you can see more images and get directions and supplies for each card.
Here are the blog hop details:

Thanks so much for visiting my blog today. I hope you enjoy this wonderful spring release! All of the products I used on my cards are listed below linked to the SSS store. xoxo Suzy
Well, if these don't (1) make you wish for Spring, and (2) make you want to color/paint, I don't know what will! Great job.
