Today is the release of the Simon Says Stamp April Card Kit called Follow the Rainbows. I have a "one stamp, five ways" post to share with you today, but it doesn't really qualify for that title. I think I should retitle this post "one kit, six ways"! I usually focus on the stamp set in a kit, but this time I have 4 of my watercolor cards in the kit, so I am using those as well which got me to 6 cards. Here is an image of the kit:
There are several items that are sold alone in the kit including the 4x6" stamp set which is also called Follow the Rainbows. The Clouds for Days stencil is also sold alone - I've had that for a while and use it all the time! The paper pad is by Whimsy Stamps called Rainbow and just happened to be in my cart to purchase, so I was very excited to see it in the kit! And here are my 6 cards!
This is my first watercolor card in the kit. It was part of the Good Vibes release, so it was somewhat in the realm of hippiness (I thought I made that word up, but my spell check isn't going crazy, so maybe not?!?!). They are printed on Ranger Watercolor Paper, so I started by applying watercolor to it! I used the Nuvo Shimmer Powders for the sky and the rainbow since they are very bright colors. I used colored pencils for the words and the hearts.
I covered the letters with Jewel Nuvo Drops (you could just use glossy accents or clear nuvo drops). I added some Glossy White Nuvo Drops on the rainbow and some sparkling clear sequins.
CARD 2:
This is the second watercolor card in the kit and it originally was in the Lots of Love watercolor card set from this year. I painted it with watercolors and then used glitter pens and a white Uniball gel pen for details.
I added some glossy white Nuvo drops to the umbrella. I used Sherbet Shimmer Nuvo drops on the little hearts. I stamped the sentiment from the stamp set in the kit with black ink on the top of the card. I die-cut it to fit on a card base so the card color would show and frame it.
CARD 3:
This is the third watercolor card. It was in the Spring set that just sold called Suzy's Spring and Easter watercolor cards. I die-cut it with a stitched rectangle. I painted the sky with Shimmer Powders. I painted the rest with watercolors. I used colored pencils for shading and details. I added some glossy accents/clear Nuvo drops to the puddle and raindrops.
CARD 4:
I made this card with the stamp set in the kit. I stamped the image on a white cardstock rectangle with MFT Natural Ink. I colored it in with colored pencils. At this point, it would have been good to also stamp the image on masking paper and place it over my colored image. But I forgot to do that part! I used a SSS circle die which I die-cut out of a piece of scrap paper the same size as the front of the card. I then used the paper to block the rest of the card and I rubbed Distress Oxide Ink over the circle using Stormy Sky and Tumbled Glass. The problem this created is the ink also covered my stamped image giving it a blue hue.
I never ever waste a card - I always find a way to cover or work in my mistakes. This time I did a bit of both. I added some blue to the umbrella with colored pencils. I added white spots to her tights with a white Uniball and used colored pencils to try and cover the blue portion at the top. I recolored her skirt to a darker blue. And I used a white uniball over her shirt. It worked well enough to use the card! I stamped several of the raindrops in black ink on the outside of the circle. I also stamped the sentiment from the set in black ink. I colored the word Friend with pink colored pencil. I added white glossy Nuvo drops over the rain in the circle and some clear over the raindrops I stamped in black ink. Last, I added some sparkling clear sequins.
CARD 5:
This card uses/focuses on the stamp set again. This time I stamped her in black ink and cut around the edges. I colored her ink with colored pencils again. I cut one of the BEAUTIFUL Whimsy Stamps Rainbow papers (I absolutely Love all the papers in this kit and will be using them on other cards) to fit on a card front. I made a frame from white cardstock using the SSS stitched rectangle dies.
I added white dots to the umbrella with a white uniball marker. I added white glossy Nuvo drops over the rain. I also stamped some additional rain on the bottom. I stamped the sentiment with embossing ink and used the SSS white embossing powder over it (that comes in the kit woohoo).
CARD 6:
This is my fourth watercolor card in the kit that was in a gratitude set, but it was one of my very first sets and is no longer on the Simon website even that I can find! I painted it with watercolor pencils this time - they were easier to use in the letters as I just combined two colors on each. I painted the background with Blue Blitz shimmer powder (very small amount so it was light).
I added some clear Nuvo drops on the raindrops and some White Blizzard Nuvo drops on the clouds. I attached it to a yellow card base.
I hope you enjoyed these cards all made with the Follow the Rainbows kit. Have a great week friends. I hope you are all able to stay healthy and safe during this tumultuous time in our world. xoxo suzy
