Hello friends! Today is the first day of a 2 day blog hop for Pretty Pink Posh (October 16th and 17th). I hope you are hopping along and enjoying all the inspiration using the newest PPP release for the holidays! I have three cards to share with you today. The blog hop details are at the end of this post.
CARD 1:
This is a slim-line card and one of my favorite sizes when you want to fit a lot of "critters" on one card to build a scene. I start with a piece of 8.5x11" cardstock. I cut a piece that is 7" wide (by the 8.5" width of the paper). I cut the remaining piece to be 3.5" wide (x 8.5" the width of the paper). You end up with a little strip left that is about 1" thick. So basically this card takes a full piece of cardstock if you want to use a separate piece to make the card front. It also fits in the standard size envelopes for legal documents which is a big plus! Note: For this card I used Ranger Watercolor Paper, not cardstock as I watercolored the background.
I made the front of the card by using my new Tonic Shimmer Powder called Catherine Wheel. I squeezed some of the powder on my paint palette and watered it down so it was not too concentrated. I painted the entire piece with a light coat of that using the wet on wet technique so it went on really light. I love these powders as they have sheen and multiple colors in them. You can use them to get really concentrated looks or really sheer looks like this. be doing a background installment post soon showing them all to you as they are my new favorite toy. I cut another piece of white cardstock for the hill. I used the new Snowflakes Stencil by attaching it twice over the card front (had to move it to get the other end). I rubbed Tonic Moonstone Glimmer Paste over the stencil to create the snowflakes. I used my palette knife to rub it over the snow as well - just a thin coating. I poured Tonic Ice White glitter over all of the paste when it was still wet to take it up a notch! haha
I stamped all of these little critters from the Holiday Signs stamp set with MFT Natural Ink and colored them in with colored pencils. I prefer the no-line look when I color, but in this case, I wanted the signs to have a black outline, so I drew around them very carefully with a black pencil. I stamped all of the sentiments in the set that had to do with the holidays with black ink inside the signs. I love that the set has winter sentiments as well if you are making a non-holiday themed card.
I attached all of the stamped images to the card front - see, with this size card they all fit perfectly! I added some Tonic Glitter Nuvo Drops over some of the areas of the stamped images to add some more glitter because it just didn't have enough haha.
CARD 2:
I used the new JOY stamp set for this card. I did my usual "random-stamping" technique over the background. I just stamped all of the little images in the set randomly going this way and that like a puzzle with MFT Natural Ink and colored them in with colored pencils. I die-cut that piece to be a little smaller than a card front and mounted it on a dark red card base.
I die-cut the letters out using the Joy Die-Cuts - I love that you can use these letters alone instead of with the coordinating stamps. I die-cut them from red glitter paper. I attached the letters to the center of the card. I added some twine, some Raspberry Jewels and a couple stamped leaves from the same set on the center letter.
CARD 3:
This card background was trying something totally new for me. I used my Jacquard Gold Alcohol Ink for the background over white cardstock. I thought you could only use alcohol ink over special paper made for it, but apparently not! Because alcohol inks are so opaque (at least this gold is), by splattering it over the card front with a paintbrush, I was able to get gold splotches that I never could have gotten from watercolors. I am quite excited about this discovery. I also splattered some all over my stamped images! Once I saw how cool they were splattered, I got carried away. I splattered some white ones on the flowers too and also some Pixie Dust just to make sure this card had as much glitter as the last two - haha!
I stamped the flowers and leaves from the Amaryllis stamp set with MFT Natural Ink. I colored them in with colored pencils. Interesting thing to note here is that I used only one red pencil on these flowers. I love that you don't have to change the color - you just alter the amount of pressure to get your lights and darks making it a very inexpensive way to color if you think about it! Do you have one red colored pencil? There you go - you can now make flowers this pretty ha! I stamped the sentient with Antique Gold Embossing Powder from the Joy stamp set using a stitched banner from the Storybook 5 die. I added some gold jewels to finish the card.
