Simon Says Stamp just released their October Card Kit called Thankful Flowers. I have 5 cards to share with you today. This is a "one stamp, five ways" post, so I primarily focus on the stamp set in the kit (although I did use some of the other supplies in it, just not the papers). Here is an image of the full card kit:
The stamp set is also called Thankful Flowers and it is sold alone as well. There is also a die for the stamp set so you can buy it alone HERE or together as a set HERE. Last, the THANKS die is sold alone as well which I used on two of my cards below. Here is an image of the stamp set:
Here are my five cards all together. Next, I'll show you each one with directions and supplies used.
CARD 1:
I love creating background patterns with stamps. This time I used just two of the flowers in the stamp set - I had to cut the smaller flower off it's stem, but it still lines up perfectly and can be used either way now. I stamped them with my Misti using SSS Intense Black Ink. I colored over them with Copic Markers and then shaded them with colored pencils. I added white to the centers of the flowers and on the petals with a White Uniball Marker (the must have white pen that I could not live without). (((No, this is not a paid infomercial)))
I stamped the largest sentiment in the stamp set on a stitched rectangle from the SSS Stitched Rectangle dies. I used my favorite teal embossing powder by Wendy Vecchi for Ranger called Garden Patina. Now if I could just find a perfect coral embossing powder - any ideas? I added some PPP Caribbean Blue Jewels around the sentiment to finish the card.
CARD 2:
For this card, I used a rectangle die-cut from Ranger Watercolor Paper. I love that it is pure white and even though it's not the most high quality watercolor paper made, it does work good enough for most of my painting needs. I stamped the flowers using MFT Natural Ink and then watercolored them with Daniel Smith watercolors for a no-line look. But I felt like they needed outlines, so I added some with colored pencils and some additional shading (I can't put my pencils down - it's a problem). I used the same colors in the flowers for the background with lots of water. You can just paint over your images with water to pull some of the color out and around them. While the paper was really wet, I flicked some additional paint over it.
I embossed the same large sentiment from the stamp set with Wow Heart Throb embossing powder white is red with gold glitter in it. I can't find it in the SSS store so maybe it isn't sold anymore. I think I got it in one of my Simon card kits, so maybe it was specially made just for that kit. Anyway, I love it and wish I could link it for you! I added some PPP Watermelon jewels because I'm in an embellishment rut and add jewels to everything. I'm determined to go back to using my Nuvo Drops and sequins occasionally too to shake it up a bit - any other embellishment ideas to finish cards?
CARD 3:
For the background of this card, I stamped a Hello Bluebird Country Gingham background stamp with Squeezed Lemonade Distress Oxide Ink. I then rubbed more ink over it after it was stamped. I flicked water on it and white watercolor on it for texture. Then I die-cut a bronze frame using the paper from the kit and a Hello Bluebird Scene die as they all have frames around them that are nice to be used alone. I die-cut the word "thanks" using the die in the kit and the same bronze paper in the kit and attached that to the top right side of the card.
I stamped the second part of the sentiment under the Thanks die with black ink. I stamped the large flower grouping stamp on white cardstock with MFT Natural Ink and colored it in with colored pencils. I used a white uniball marker again for the insides of the flowers. I cut around the edges and attached that to the bottom of the card. I added some PPP Espresso Jewels around the flowers (because I'm in that jewel rut I mentioned above!).
CARD 4:
This is my embossed version as I always have to emboss one of my cards! I die-cut a stitched rectangle using the largest Lawn Fawn one from Ranger Watercolor Paper. I then embossed the flower stamps with Ranger White Embossing Powder having them hang over the edges. I then painted the flowers with Opera Pink Daniel Smith watercolor - it is the brightest pink you will ever find! I painted the leaves with a teal green color.
I wet the background and used a wet on wet technique with blue paint and then some of the green and pink mixed in around the flowers. I splattered some blue paint over it while it was still really wet. I stamped the sentiment using Wendy Vecchi Forget-Me-Not embossing powder. This is when I realized i need a bright pink embossing powder - must research the best one to match bright cards like this one! I used two of the small sentiments by stamping them with black ink. I finished the card with the oh so bright Flamingo Pink JEWELS to finish the card.
CARD 5:
This is my favorite card, but I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to hear which one is your favorite. You can just put a number if it is easier. I started this one by using the MFT Stitched Rectangle dies that just add the look of stitching on the edges of a rectangle. I then die-cut the word "thanks" six times out of various pink cardstock colors starting with the darkest on the top and working down to white on the bottom. I was very happy I kept all my cardstock scraps in baggies sorted by colors!
I stamped the flower and leaf images on white cardstock with MFT Natural Ink and then colored them in with colored pencils. I used a white uniball marker over the centers of the flowers again. I cut them out and attached them to the left side of the card overlapping several of the leaves on the stem. I then glued the six "thanks" dies along the right side. Some aren't perfectly straight even though I measured and drew pencil lines for each one. I'm such an OCD Perfectionist that this bothered me, but apparently not enough not to love the card! haha I finished with some PPP Blush jewels.
Isn't it amazing how different looking all these cards are using the same stamp set? I love using different techniques, different coloring mediums, and different color schemes on each one so you can really see the variety of looks you can get from the stamp set. I hope you enjoyed this post and my "one stamp, five ways" series. I will have two more of these posts for Simon this month as they are releasing 2 special edition kits as part of STAMPtember. So come back and visit - you can always subscribe to my blog by email in the top left corner if you want to get notified when I post (which isn't that often, but each post has a tons of cards in it!). Thanks so much for visiting and have a great weekend friends! Suzy xoxo
Gorgeous cards! I just love that turquoise and pink and the Thanks all over card!
